38 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
1 And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death until they see the kingdom of God after it has come with power.”
Jesus spoke a Word and in a real sense prophesied by telling his disciples that some of them will see God’s Kingdom in its glory
The event Jesus had in mind has been variously interpreted as His resurrection and ascension, the coming of the Spirit at Pentecost, the spread of Christianity, or the destruction of Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
The most accurate interpretation, however, is to connect Christ’s promise with the Transfiguration in the context
1. The prophecy (9:1) : Jesus tells his disciples that some of them will see God’s Kingdom in its gl
Jesus had just predicted His own death but He wanted to reassure His disciples
Kingdom ministry is knowing how to hold on to the glimpses of glory in the face of suffering
17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.
17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
2 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. And he was transfigured before them,
Jesus took with Him : Jesus chooses Peter, James, and John to accompany him.
to be transformed to be or become changed in outward appearance or expression as manifesting a change in nature or essence.
Transfigured: to change into another form: His appearance change not His nature
Kingdom Ministry is understanding what I posses I don’t have to always reveal the revealing is for an appointed time.
The Closer I am with to Jesus the higher He takes me, and the higher He takes me the more He reveals
Willmington, H. L. (1999). The Outline Bible (). Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House Publishers.
Disciples, Inner Circle: Peter, James, and John apparently formed an inner circle around Jesus. Jesus revealed more to these three men than to the other disciples. They were with Him when He raised Jairus’ daughter, when He was in the Garden of Gethsemane, and here on the mount of transfiguration. Why were these three chosen to receive these additional revelations?
What is known is this. Each was being chosen for a very special ministry role or call. They were not aware of it yet, but they were to fill unique positions in the ministry.
1. Peter was to be the leader of the early church, the one who was to open the door of the gospel to both Jew and Gentile after Pentecost (; ).
2. James was called to be an apostle and to be martyred for his faith in Christ ().
3. John was to receive The Revelation from God to close out the Scripture.
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
3 and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.
Mark 9
4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
The transfiguration strengthened Jesus
Jesus needed to be strengthened. He was about to face the cross and the full weight of all that was involved in dying for the sins of the world. The pressure of bearing God’s judgment for all the sins of the world was beginning to press in upon Him. He needed God’s strength, encouragement, and assurance in a very special way. Therefore, God gave Jesus two very special experiences.
Moses was the law giver and Elijah was the protector of that law
Moses represents the law, Elijah represents the prophets
30 And behold, two men were talking with him, Moses and Elijah,
31 who appeared in glory and spoke of his departure, which he was about to accomplish at Jerusalem.
I suppose the disciples might have thought they would be talking about the Kingdom and the glory and the overthrow of the Romans and the establishment of the Messiah’s throne over the whole earth. But they’re not. They’re talking about His death because that’s what the transfiguration event is intended to communicate to the disciples, that He has to die and it doesn’t negate the glory but it isn’t some interruption of the plan
Moses is the greatest leader in Israel’s history, rescuer of the nation from captivity, its greatest general, can we say? God was the one who drowned Pharaoh’s army but Moses was the victor by divine power.
In authority he was a king, though he never had a throne.
In message he was a prophet.
In service to God he was every bit a priest, serving God on behalf of His people. He was the author of the Pentateuch, the agent by which God gave His holy Law. He’s the greatest. If you’re going to have somebody give testimony to the fact that the Messiah needs to die, you couldn’t get a better witness than Moses, unless it was Elijah.
He could stand with Moses because he fought against every violation of that law. He battled the nation’s idolatry and he battled it with great courage and words of judgment and he validated his preaching with miracles.
There are only two miracle eras in the Old Testament, the time of Moses, and you know what the miracles were, they were in Egypt and the time of Elijah. You can read them in to 19, and 2.
Here are the most trustworthy eyewitnesses. No one could bring the apostles more assurance and confidence that the death of Jesus was in the plan than to hear it from Moses and Elijah, the very men that they look to as the heroes of the Old Testament faith.
The Cross doesn't negate the Glory
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
5 And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is good that we are here. Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”
Why did he say that ?
6 For he did not know what to say, for they were terrified.
When you don’t know what to say it’s best to say nothing
5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”
Matt
7 And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son; listen to him.”
19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;
MArk 9
8 And suddenly, looking around, they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.
9 And as they were coming down the mountain, he charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Son of Man had risen from the dead.
Mar
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.
17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,”
1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life—
10 So they kept the matter to themselves, questioning what this rising from the dead might mean.
11 And they asked him, “Why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?”
mark
12 And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things. And how is it written of the Son of Man that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
13 But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”
14 And when they came to the disciples, they saw a great crowd around them, and scribes arguing with them.
15 And immediately all the crowd, when they saw him, were greatly amazed and ran up to him and greeted him.
16 And he asked them, “What are you arguing about with them?”
mark 9 12
17 And someone from the crowd answered him, “Teacher, I brought my son to you, for he has a spirit that makes him mute.
18 And whenever it seizes him, it throws him down, and he foams and grinds his teeth and becomes rigid. So I asked your disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.”
19 And he answered them, “O faithless generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him to me.”
Kingdom ministry is having the ability to believe in an invisible source for visible manifestations
20 And they brought the boy to him. And when the spirit saw him, immediately it convulsed the boy, and he fell on the ground and rolled about, foaming at the mouth.
21 And Jesus asked his father, “How long has this been happening to him?” And he said, “From childhood.
Kingdom Ministry is caring and compassionate
22 And it has often cast him into fire and into water, to destroy him. But if you can do anything, have compassion on us and help us.”
23 And Jesus said to him, “ ‘If you can’! All things are possible for one who believes.”
24 Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”

Kingdom Ministry is understanding that the first step to deliverance is honesty
25 And when Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You mute and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.”
26 And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse, so that most of them said, “He is dead.”
Kingdom Ministry is understanding that we cannot be moved by the visible
27 But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.
28 And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”
13 And they cast out many demons and anointed with oil many who were sick and healed them.
29 And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”

Kingdom Ministry is understanding that certain strongholds requires a deeper level of intimacy and dependency
30 They went on from there and passed through Galilee. And he did not want anyone to know,
This kind of species
31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men, and they will kill him. And when he is killed, after three days he will rise.”
32 But they did not understand the saying, and were afraid to ask him.
33 And they came to Capernaum. And when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you discussing on the way?”
34 But they kept silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest.
35 And he sat down and called the twelve. And he said to them, “If anyone would be first, he must be last of all and servant of all.”
36 And he took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them,
37 “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but him who sent me.”
38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw someone casting out demons in your name, and we tried to stop him, because he was not following us.”
39 But Jesus said, “Do not stop him, for no one who does a mighty work in my name will be able soon afterward to speak evil of me.
40 For the one who is not against us is for us.
41 For truly, I say to you, whoever gives you a cup of water to drink because you belong to Christ will by no means lose his reward.
42 “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung around his neck and he were thrown into the sea.
mark
43 And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire.
mark 9
44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell.
46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
47 And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell,
48 ‘where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’
49 For everyone will be salted with fire.
50 Salt is good, but if the salt has lost its saltiness, how will you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.”
