Field Day - Church Camp - Tug of War
Which Side Typically won?
Pitch a couple scenarios-
Tug of War with a dead man
Tug of War with a paralyzed man
Who here today has felt the tug of war in your walk with God?
Romans 7:15–25 NKJV
15 For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do. 16 If, then, I do what I will not to do, I agree with the law that it is good. 17 But now, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find. 19 For the good that I will to do, I do not do; but the evil I will not to do, that I practice. 20 Now if I do what I will not to do, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells in me. 21 I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. 22 For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. 23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. 24 O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? 25 I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, with the mind I myself serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.
Romans 7.
Romans 7:15 NLT
15 I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate.
Romans 7:18–19 NLT
18 And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. 19 I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.
Romans 7:18–20 NLT
18 And I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. I want to do what is right, but I can’t. 19 I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway. 20 But if I do what I don’t want to do, I am not really the one doing wrong; it is sin living in me that does it.
Can you relate?
The Desire to do right yet the compulsion to do wrong.
The Conviction when doing wrong yet pushing forward.
If you can relate, Paul has a message for you.
Life Changing Truth - If you can get your mind around this truth Paul shares it will revolutionize your walk with God, and the victory you can experience over sin.
Universal Problem - All Have sinned - Condemnation
Universal Solution - Jesus Died for Sinners - Justification
Universal Plan - Believers Should Walk in Victory - Sanctification
Romans 5:20–21 NKJV
20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, 21 so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 5:20 NKJV
20 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,
Romans 6:1–2 NKJV
1 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?

An Objection Refuted (vs

Paul Got in front of an objection in light of the truth of Justification.

A Question Addressed

Misunderstand God’s Grace as a license to sin...
Warning- There are those who know the facts about salvation, who have a false sense of security, and live as if Jesus died for them to have a free pass.
Accompanying Salvation is a new nature and the Holy Spirit of God takes residence in us.
Ephesians 2:1 NKJV
1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,
Paul’s Argument - How Can you keep on sinning when you are dead to sin...
This is the Principle… If I have been Justified by Christ, I AM DEAD TO SIN!!
Repeat. Repeat. Turn to Your Neighbor, Turn To your Other Neighbor
Paul’s Illustration - The Picture of Baptism
Romans 6:3–10 NKJV
3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection, 6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin. 7 For he who has died has been freed from sin. 8 Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with Him, 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life that He lives, He lives to God.
Why Is Baptism so important? Why does it matter the method of Baptism?
It’s a Picture- Death, Burial, Resurrection
It’s a Choice of Identification - My Death, My Burial, My Resurrection
I want you to notice Paul’s Logic -
This is the First Step of Victorious Living - KNOWLEDGE OF WHAT CHRIST HAS DONE
Romans 6:3 NKJV
3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death?
Romans 6:6 NKJV
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Romans 6:9 NKJV
9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
What do you want me to know Paul?
We died with Christ
When we died with Christ - The Power of Sin was Broken (literally Rendered Inoperative)
Romans 6:6 NASB95
6 knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him, in order that our body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be slaves to sin;
Romans 6:6 CSB
6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be rendered powerless so that we may no longer be enslaved to sin,
Romans 6:6 NIV
6 For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin—
Romans 6:6 NLT
6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
Notice the statement of Potential - Might…
The Might is not dependent of what Christ has done but as we will see what we yield ourselves to. Illustration - Unplugged Light
Illustration - Unplugged Light
If we died with Him, We also Rose with Him… Death has no Dominion
Get this… This is all true for the believer whether you believe it our not.
Romans 6:9 NKJV
9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
Romans 6:6 NKJV
6 knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, that the body of sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves of sin.
Look at verse
Leads to Step # 2 I have to make this Truth, My Truth.
Romans 6:11 NKJV
11 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In these moments of Tug of War, We surely do not feel dead to sin.
Paul’s Saying, Yeah I get it - Our Old Man has been Crucified but I still live in His House, and there are reminders all around me of Him.
He has been rendered Powerless, Unfortunately He has not been rendered Voiceless.
It’s its in these moments, you have to MAKE UP IN YOUR MIND - What do i believe
Calculate the Facts of what we know, and Come to the conclusion… I don’t feel like that I’m dead but I’m Choosing to Believe What God’s Word Said.
That’s what it means to reckon...
Always remember that Truth > Feelings
Problem is this, we are dominated by our emotions and feelings.
Your Feelings Lie, They are manipulated by the Flesh...
They always over exaggerate circumstances.
I know the Truth, I take Ownership of the Truth
I take Ownership of the Truth
3. I live in light of the Truth
Romans 6:12–14 NKJV
12 Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. 13 And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. 14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Romans
This is the key… 2 Imperative Commands
James 1:14–15 NKJV
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
1. Do not let sin reign in your mortal body - Thoughts
If you toy around with the idea of sin long enough, you’ll soon find yourself getting closer and closer.
That’s how sin works
James 1:14–15 NKJV
14 But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death.
Jesus on Sermon on the Mount - If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out… If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off.
Paul - Make no Provision for the Flesh to obey the lusts thereof...
You have a choice to Abort those thoughts as they come to you, You also have the power to say NO!!! Tug of war with a paralyzed man.
2. Do not present your body as instruments unrighteousness - Actions
Tug of war with a paralyzed man.
2. Do not present your body as instruments unrighteousness - Actions
Colossians 3:5 NKJV
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Romans 6:16 NKJV
16 Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
Your going to serve something or someone, You have a choice to make...
Is it going to be self? or God? (FINISH DEVELOPING THIS THOUGHT TONIGHT)
(FINISH DEVELOPING THIS THOUGHT TONIGHT)
Finish with this last thought - I can be victorious because Sin Has No Power over me.
Romans 6:14 NKJV
14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
How do i know? Because we are not under Law, but Grace.
It all goes back to Jesus, and What he did...
There is tremendous freedom in knowing that our salvation is not dependent on me… That even when i mess up, I can go back to Jesus and His sacrifice is still sufficient.
Do you have that freedom? Those Who stood Condemned Can Stand Justified & experience the joy of being Sanctified.
3 Keys To Victorious Christian Living

32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
