Bringing Someone to Jesus.
Bringing Someone to Jesus.
Intro: This that time of year when we celebrate Christmas. We know that it is about the birth of Jesus. But not everyone really believes that. In many cases, there are those who try to stop people from celebrating the birth of Jesus.
There was a time in our country when most people has some Bible knowledge, but today, many, most have no clue what the Bible is really about, why Jesus is so important. It all about the forgiveness of sin.
It is for us to bring people, to show people the saving grace of Jesus.
I. Find ways to bring people to Jesus. VS 1-4
I. Find ways to bring people to Jesus. VS 1-4
1 And again he entered into Capernaum, after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house.
Jesus had made it back to Capernaum. He had been to towns preaching. He had healed a leper. He had to go to other place to preach.
a. Now He is back, doing what was most important, preaching the word.
b. The word got out, that Jesus was in the house. (Peters house)
“came to his own city”
c. When Jesus came to town, there was a good chance that something good was about to happen.
d. If Jesus is in the church house, there is a good chance something good is about to happen.
f. If Jesus is in your life, someone good will happen.
“Instead of putting Christ back into Christmas, maybe we should out Christ back into Christians”
g. A lot of people had come to hear Jesus that day, the word had gotten out. Some came to hear what He had to say
:
22 And they were astonished at his doctrine: for he taught them as one that had authority, and not as the scribes.
h. The scribes were there too. But they were there to find fault against Him.
i. There were a lot of people, so many that there was no more in the door. No one could even get to the door.
k. Jesus was preaching “preached the word unto them” What does that mean?
II Timothy
2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
j. Jesus preached with love, but He also preached what would bring conviction. He preached the truth. Elab
k. His preaching also brought some concern to the scribes. They didn’t like what they heard. He preached about sin (conviction) but He also preached about forgiveness.
l. That is what we do to bring people to Jesus.
m. There were people there to hear Jesus preach. There was also people there that wanted to be healed.
3 And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four.
1. Five men here. One sick with palsy. (Paralyzed) likely came to him during his life, not at birth.
18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
Luke
a. And his four friends bring to Jesus.
b. If you are going make an effort to bring someone to Jesus, there may be some hindrances.
FEAR, DOUBT, somethings that may cause you to want to give up. Never give up, that means you, that means Pine Grove.
4 And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay.
They carry their friend to Jesus. But there was something could have stopped them, the crowd. They were going to let anything stop them.
a. They get up on the roof. Ealb
b. They begin to take the roof apart. Now image the scene inside the house. Peter, the crowd, the scribes. But what about Jesus? I think it may have bought a smile to His face. He saw their faith.
c. Jesus loves it when a church will go out of it’s way to bring to to Him. He wants us to think outside the box.
d. He took notice when these men did this things. He will take notice when we make a effort to bring people to Him.
II. There will be forgiveness. VS 5
II. There will be forgiveness. VS 5
5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee.
Now here is this man on the floor before Jesus, the man friends looking down.
“when he saw their faith”
a. That is what He wants to see in us, PGBC.
b. What do we need to do for Jesus to see our faith? A few weeks ago and to turkeys.
c. We Jesus sees us praying together. Stepping out in faith and doing things to reach our community.
d. Getting C.C room ready when we have no kids here.
2. Jesus will heal this man, but first He will forgive him of his sins.
“Son, thy sins be forgiven”
Why did Jesus forgive him first? There is the possibility that sin caused his palsy. (The blind man, when Jesus disciples ask him....)
a. Sin is why we there are so many problems today.
III. Jesus will know their intent. VS 6-10
III. Jesus will know their intent. VS 6-10
6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts,
17 And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
Luke
These scribes (religious leaders)
a. They were not there for spiritual reasons. They were critics. Elab on what they were looking for. Its not the last time we see them.
c. When Jesus is working in a church; because the church is is a place where bring people to Him, there will people like the scribes. Those with an negative attitude.
Those with an negative attitude.
7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
d. I’m not talking about someone who against the preaching of the gospel in the church (although there may be) I’m talking about people with a negative spirit.
e. A negative spirit can cause a hindrance of the spirit in church.
“reasoning in their hearts”
III. Jesus konws their intent
f. Elab how this happens in church today. It could be about the music, the temp in the church, the way someone is dressed, the service is too long, etc....This kind of attitude is a hindrance that will kill a church.
8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
g. This would happen to the city of Capernaum. Up to this point we know that many in the city believed and were coming to Jesus. But that would change.
8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
4 But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. 5 And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them.
h. Things would get worse for them.
23 And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. 24 But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee.
Matthew
i. Capernaum does not exist today. That is the reason a lot of church no longer exist. One reason, the people no longer bring people to Jesus.
j. We bring people to Jesus so they can be forgiven of their sins. So if we are not doing that, do we really believe that He can?
k. Forgiveness of sins, is the most important thing. Without that there is no forgiveness, there no heaven.
l. They rejected that fact that Jesus could forgive sins. They rejected the fact that He was God, even though all the fact of the prophecies were there.
8 And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts?
Mark 2

e. So He questioned them. “Why reason these things in your hearts?
9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
2. In VS 7 they accused Jesus of blasphemies. They saw Him putting himself equal with God.
9 Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk?
Mark 2:9
The forgiveness of sins is something they could not see. But when Jesus told the man to rise and walk, and he did that would be proof of His power.
a. The people in town knew who this man was, it would proof to them too. Even more proof.
6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, 7 Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only?
IV. Jesus will heal their hurt. Vs 10-12

10 But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) 11 I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. 12 And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.
Son of Man: Use by Jesus in the gospels, all 4. This showed His humanity. Son of God showed His deity.
