A. What was lacking that need to be set in order?
We need to remember before we get into this lesson the question that we are endeavoring to answer in this series.

What is Paul teaching Titus in and about “Sound Doctrine” that will help him and the members know how to conduct themselves in the church?
Our goal is to understand what Paul is conveying through this letter to Titus so that we can apply Paul’s teaching to ourselves and the congregation here.
A. How does understanding what was lacking in Crete help us in understanding how to conduct ourselves in the church today?

There is nothing new under the sun.
The things that were taking place at the time Paul wrote to Titus are the same things that are taking place today.
The same problems require the same solutions.
BODY:
1.
What was lacking that needed to be set in order?
A. There are many who are insubordinate.
The definition of insubordinate is—disobedient to authority.
1.
Some versions say rebellious instead of insubordinate but it means the same thing.
A. Either way they were not willing to be obedient to God’s authority.
1 Pt 1:
1.
They were insubordinate or rebellious and they were going to listen to no one.
Titus
A.
Not Jesus!

Not the Apostles!

Not the Elders!
2. These insubordinate people were idle talkers and deceivers.
A. They were teaching things which they ought not!
1. Idle talking can be false teaching!
1 Timothy 1.5-
2. Idle talking can be gossiping!
1 Tim 5.13
3. Idle talking is saying anything that ought not be said.
B. They were deceiving for dishonest gain!
Titus
1. Paul instructed Timothy to withdraw himself from this type of person.
1 Timothy 6.3-
2. They loved money more than God!

3. Titus was to set in order these insubordinate people by stopping their mouths!
Titus 1:
A. What was Paul instructing Titus to do?
1.
He was to speak those things which are proper for for “Sound Doctrine”.
A. How did this stop the insubordinate’s mouths?
1.
If you teach everyone around them what they are saying is wrong, they will have no one to listen to them!
2. If you are able to teach them, they literally stop their own mouths from saying it.
CONCLUSION:
1. Paul told Titus to set in order the things that are lacking!
A. They were lacking obedience by being insubordinate or rebellious.

Which means they did not truly love God.
B. Are we lacking obedience by being insubordinate or rebellious?
1. Are we teaching things we ought not?
A. What about not showing up for services?
B. What about not studying God’s Word the way we should?

2. Do we love money and does that cause us to do things that we ought not do?
3. Are these things causing us to not love God the way we should?
2. Are we setting in order the things that are lacking so that we have “Sound Doctrine”?
