God is so perfect, holy, righteous, etc. Yet chose His birthplace as the small, unimportant village of Bethlehem. Laid in a manger, the mess of an animal stall. Your life or circumstance may seem that it is small, unimportant and a mess but given the opportunity God will enter into it.

Leviticus 21:17–23 NKJV
“Speak to Aaron, saying: ‘No man of your descendants in succeeding generations, who has any defect, may approach to offer the bread of his God. For any man who has a defect shall not approach: a man blind or lame, who has a marred face or any limb too long, a man who has a broken foot or broken hand, or is a hunchback or a dwarf, or a man who has a defect in his eye, or eczema or scab, or is a eunuch. No man of the descendants of Aaron the priest, who has a defect, shall come near to offer the offerings made by fire to the Lord. He has a defect; he shall not come near to offer the bread of his God. He may eat the bread of his God, both the most holy and the holy; only he shall not go near the veil or approach the altar, because he has a defect, lest he profane My sanctuaries; for I the Lord sanctify them.’ ”
Lev 21:17
We are in the middle of the Holiday season and have been celebrating Jesus with a sermon series that we started last Sunday titled “The King”.
Today I want to continue our focus on Jesus Christ, the King of kings. I want us to understand the significance of the birth of Jesus Christ. Not only in the reality of making salvation from sin possible. But in the significance of a royal, majestic, righteous, holy and perfect King coming lowly to be born.
The creator begotten into creation.
The King becoming servant.
The lion being a lamb.
The beginning and the end made the hinge that all of time hangs upon.

Perfection of God

Our God is a holy God. It is a declaration of His status in eternity.
To be holy is to be worthy of complete devotion as one who is perfect goodness and righteousness.
When we say, or scripture says “He is holy”. We are saying “He is perfect”.
Isaiah 5:15–16 NLT
Humanity will be destroyed, and people brought down; even the arrogant will lower their eyes in humiliation. But the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will be exalted by his justice. The holiness of God will be displayed by his righteousness.
Isaiah 5:16 NKJV
But the Lord of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, And God who is holy shall be hallowed in righteousness.
His perfect holiness, or His complete perfection of attributes such as power and goodness is a humbling, even terrifying thing to people.
Isaiah 6:1–2 NKJV
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
Isaiah 6:1-
Isaiah 6:1–5 NKJV
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple. Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!” And the posts of the door were shaken by the voice of him who cried out, and the house was filled with smoke. So I said: “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts.”
Isaiah 6:1-
Isaiah was terrified at what he was witness too. “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips...”
He saw a perfect God with the Seraphim.
So holy the angels would not look at Him. They covered their face, hid their eyes from the sight of His holiness.
So holy the only thing they were capable of saying “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the earth is full of His glory!”

His holiness impacts the things He touches.

He is so perfect and so holy, the things God separates to Himself become holy too.
Tabernacle
Altar - seven days of atonement, then every offering must be holy “perfect”.
Table of shewbread
Golden Lamp stand
Altar of incense - You shall consecrate them, whatever touches them must be holy.
Priest - Must have prepared before going into the presence of the Holy, would die.
He may eat the bread of his God, both the most holy and the holy; only he shall not go near the veil or approach the altar, because he has a defect, lest he profane My sanctuaries; for I the Lord sanctify them.’ ”
Had to remove his garments before returning to the people.
Offerings and sacrifice - without blemish, perfect.
Leviticus 22:19–21 NKJV
you shall offer of your own free will a male without blemish from the cattle, from the sheep, or from the goats. Whatever has a defect, you shall not offer, for it shall not be acceptable on your behalf. And whoever offers a sacrifice of a peace offering to the Lord, to fulfill his vow, or a freewill offering from the cattle or the sheep, it must be perfect to be accepted; there shall be no defect in it.
He is so holy, so perfect that the ground becomes holy.
Exodus 3:5 NKJV
Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.”
Moses face shown with the glory of God so that it terrified the people.

Why would this kind of perfect God choose to come into such a sinful world?

Call for altar music.
To save us from our sin.
He could have chosen when and where He would come. He chose Bethlehem.
Small, unimportant place.
Micah 5:2 NKJV
“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, Though you are little among the thousands of Judah, Yet out of you shall come forth to Me The One to be Ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, From everlasting.”
He could have chose a different time than when every room would be filled.
Luke 2:6–7 NKJV
So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
Luke 2:6-7
Could have sent an angel to the inn keeper, “keep one room available… guess who’s coming to be a guest tonight.”
The wise men from the east search for Him in the palace. Why? Where do you look for a King?
But He’s not at the palace.
A holy God, perfect in all His ways, chooses the manger.
Feed trough for animals.
Aroma of manure, stench of animals, filthy, a mess.
In an insignificant small town.
What you may think is a mess in your life or too small, or too insignificant for such a holy perfect God...
God is willing to show up.
In that moment, what was probably the filthiest of all birth places on planet earth became the holiest place on earth.
You don’t need your mess cleaned up. You don’t need your life made perfect. You don’t need your life to be more significant to get God’s attention. He just needs a place where He can arrive.
Believe, repent of your sin, be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit speaking in another language.
Ask God to come into your mess.
