Perfect Gift
Father we love and we praise you. We thank you this morning for all that you do for us. We thank you for the Christmas season and what it means father. We pray this morning for the children's church and for the nursery and for the children of our church, we also always pray Lord that you have a hedge of protection around our church. We know there's things we are to do to be cautious, but at the end of the day Lord, we trust you, and we trust that you take care of your people right now father's we hear you were going to discuss something in your Bible used's almost Indescribable, but father doesn't mean we're not to reach another level of understanding to appreciate what you've done for us. I think it's only something we can do with the holy spirit. So right now Lord teaches from your word that we would understand Christmas. We love you and praise you in Jesus name. Amen. We have many sayings or versus here at this church that had become foundational to our church and other words things. We say often or a lot of members memorized one of our versus over the years that have become a verse that people know and I'm glad to say they have on their hearts and 2nd Corinthians. 9-15 would simply says thanks be to God for his Indescribable gift another translation says thanks be to God for his unspeakable gift and any terms of or adjective being used about the gift what God's trying to really get across to us. Is that what he's done for us on the cross into Christmas Is Almost beyond our imagination? We will not understand the depth of the gift the the the what it cost God what it did what it means to us and I think we will never fully get it to wear in heaven. I didn't actually the education of understanding what Jesus really did for us will actually really intensify in heaven and I think being there through eternity. Is how long it's going to take us to get it but because that verse says that it doesn't mean that we toss it aside if the Bible says if you both supposed in the cross, then we are always to be striving to understand that cross and understand what it means. And so one of the things we can do is use what we understand about Earthly gifts that we can relate to to see if it equals or somehow compares to what God has done for us understanding it won't completely do it if you know what I mean, but one of the things to do that's important understand is in Romans 5 8 9 God says something about how he loves us and why once again, we need to get into the cross. He says God demonstrates his own love towards us and this what but we were still sinners Christ died for us. So if the cross is the very essence of showing us how much God loves us. We need to try to understand that as much as possible. So that's why I even though it's an Indescribable gift. We want to dive in there. And learn what we can learn and the second verse goes on to say much more than having now been justified by his blood we shall be saved from wrath through him. So once again, we don't understand how God stood between us and Jesus stood between us and all our sin and the righteous anger of God and will try to look at that a little bit today. So let's try to understand gifts me. I'm going to date myself a little bit. Some of you will be real happy. And remember some of you say what's going on for that younger generation YouTube or Google it and you'll catch up a man. What a my favorite shows when I was a young kid was Little House on the Prairie. Amen. Can I get an amen? Amen? Do you know that Walnut Grove really exist in Minnesota? It's a true story. If you look up on a map, you can see where they're at. But anyway, we know the heroes of the story Charles Ingalls in the little girl Laura was the main character how many of you wanted to kill La kill's a strong word, but I was Stone the stone. House and a man. Oh my goodness, but every 10 episodes. Mrs. Olson with discover something you might see the other side of her heart. And you said okay. I'm leaving so soon had to be the nicest man on the planet Earth a man. What was great about that story was as if God was woven into it a lot. It was about loving people heart of community and everything else. Well, one of the early Pilots of the series. Mr. Edwards, the guy of the Wagon Wheel always play that Charles is best friend Charles ran into him when he was in the Big Town in. Mr. Edwards was in a bar and drinking and having a rough time Charles pull them out brought him home fatum got him a job is like trying to started to turn around in that town and his wife mrs. Angles is always one of the nicest people in around but she did not like his friend. She did not like mr. Edwards at all. Well, it happened to be right around Christmas and mr. Edwards when he was at the house heard that Charles and them although they open their home to him also had a little beans and it wasn't going to be much of a Christmas for the girls. So it was a blizzard that night and I'm talking about a kind of lizard that people died in but Mr. Edwards had bought some presents for the girls and he actually made it from 10 all the way to their house through the blizzard and almost froze to death for the girls was two presents a little silver 10-cup which was use for their lunch and a candy cane the girls went nuts. The candy cane didn't get sweets, but maybe once a year the little cup for their school would mean that they be able to have certain drinks and hot soup or something for lunch. And the first of all how funny it would be if your kids came downstairs this year and got a candy cane in a cup. They probably call CPS on you. And CPS would probably come out and arrest you. But the bottom line was a joy that these little kids soften that but here's what really happened. Here's what's so important about the story. Mrs. Ingalls heart was forever changed towards mr. Edwards because of a gift Mr. Edwards in that moment became family because of the love. He saw in that act of a gift a gift can change your life. And it's a very gift that God gave us the changed all of our Lives the gifts in Ephesians. It said for it is by Grace. We have been saved. It's a gift of God. God traveled to a lot more than mr. Edwards ever travel through to get to that cross for me. And you matter fact the last obstacle in the garden. The Bible says an angel had to come to attend the Jesus. No one closer to Christ. No one knew his father better nobody full more of Faith, but what he had to go through for you and me and angel had to come to strengthen him as he sweated drops of blood. The Bible says in Luke for what lay before him to give you the greatest gift of all time. That is a depth of his love and that is why the studying of the cross in every Christian the blood of Christ must be at the Forefront. I'm going to tell you what I'm trying to accomplish this morning at the end of the service cuz it's Indescribable but there's something in there. I'm going to tell you that. I hope you'll never forget after this about that cross in about Jesus. Let's begin to look at six different areas that we can compare a gift that we would get here to what Christ did for us. The first one is who is the gift for and what do I mean by who is the gift for it's saying to you that a lot of times you and getting a gift what makes a special so you mind your for your spouse your mom your kids your grandkids your best friend. So that's the beginning of what makes us give special. Who is it? What is it for? I remember one year when me and Pat got married. I was able to get a very small ring. We weren't that for kids with you guys. Been there any men she got a Cracker Jack ring? Bottom line was his father was a jewelry store closing where they really had tremendous prices and I Saw 2 carat band that I knew was perfect for her. I went and talked to my mom and dad at that time borrowed money never really borrow it from them before I was able to pay him back quickly, but the bottom line was Christmas morning. I was able to stick that ring on top of the little church steeple that we had on the little Nativity Church train track scene. We had going around the middle of our tree is all so excited. Now that ring sat on that Steep Hill with the lights of the tree. I could not see it was a blinding light today MN diamonds wear everywhere. Whatever. I thought I saw Jesus Christmas morning. I couldn't wait. I can wait all on four Pat only get downstairs Pat hated that train because like most little trains that always broke a train off the tracks so that morning when running I said pet fix a train, please would you go and fix the Train the kids?
Why we we took a whip and let her to the train and she saw it and she started crying and the gift was worth everything. It was a special not because it was diamonds. It was special because Pat knew what I went through to get it. She knew what she meant me all the all the bottom line thing. That's what Hebrews chapter 12 verse to understand something about who Jesus was getting a gift for looking under the author of our faith Jesus and the finisher of our faith who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross. There's a whole key folks The Joy set before him. What was the joy you That's the joy. You understand the cross. Like I've told you a million times. It gained him. Nothing. If Jesus in the garden would have agreed and said this cup was too much for him. And he would just as a send it right in the heaven like Enoch kids cuz Jesus can do anything and he got up there and an angel came on. The corner said well, you didn't do the cross you would even finish the sentence he would have disappeared. The next change would have said I didn't think across was a good idea anyway, cuz he didn't want to disappear. The world would have went on we would have been lost forever. But Jesus would have never change who he was he endure it all for the joy of you. . He endured it all cuz he wanted you to have Christmas. He wanted you to see on the top of the little church steeple a ring around it that says this is for you and it shines as bright as that diamond ring did if not brighter and it's for the whole world to see I love you that much the first thing about that gif the second thing about that gift was I said it's for you but we have to emphasize it a second time. It's especially for you and funerals that I do I use this story more than any other. It's John 11:25 and 26th is when Christ comes to the tomb of Lazarus and he's convincing the sisters that he is eternal life and in doing that he make something very clear to hurry cuz I'm the Resurrection the life he who believes in me though. He may die. He shall live and he that believes in me and lives and Believes In Me shall what Here's the important thing the most important line. It's about the personal part of the gift. Do you believe this? To receive the gift of Christmas. It is an individual choice. You will not get saved because you're a child and come to church with your parents. You will not get saved cuz your grandparents drag you to church you do not get saved because you've been coming to church for 30 years. You don't get saved because your family's been coming here 90 years. You don't get saved because you attend church every Sunday you get saved. If you receive the gift of Christ dying for you. Do you believe this the special thing about the gift on the cross is I don't know how God does it because he's God and I'm not but he did think of every last person that got saved on that cross in that Garden. Yes. He thought about you and that's why when you had the chance to say no you said, you know, what's driving me that cross everyone of you. everyone of You Folks at Christmas And the sad part. Is there be many people that open presents this holiday season, that will not get it open. The present that Christ has given them. The third thing is expense. Let's be honest. What makes a gift valuable sometimes is what it costs nothing wrong. It's not about money. I know when a granddaughter draws a picture. That's the best gift in the world a man, but I'm just saying cuz sometimes equals what a gift means why it's simply the sacrifice of that person, you know, the two limited things in your life is your wallet in your calendar. Why does you have limited money? Do you have limited time when someone takes from the limited resources they have and really goes out of their way for you. It's a gesture of showing you how much they care. So what's their cost in the expense of what Jesus did for us? Let's talk about blood types. Do you know that there is no such thing as I'm contaminated blood in this world. Every human being has Sim in their blood. Let's go a step further. The story one time I really love it was a disease that broke out in Europe one person had it was incurable kill that person. They try to stop it it spread to everybody in the family. They all died spread everybody in the town of quarantine to town then they closed off France or we going to be okay know all of a sudden it was in Europe then somebody to us had it everybody in the world starting to get to no cure for a blood disease. Finally the scientists found the Cure. It's in a rare blood type only one in five thousand people have it your child has it at the blood type. They need every drop of blood to make enough to cure everybody in the world. Your child says no, it's okay. I will give my life to save you my family and the rest of the world so reluctantly you let your child give up their life get the blood and the interstitial antidote Works everybody cured. Everybody says will never forget the day these people did this. It's a holiday. Well five years later on that particular day when they got the antidote. They have a holiday to remember all those that gave their lives and as the parents are driving to a memorial to honor what their child and everybody else. Did it look out the window and they see hundreds of people at the restaurant at the bar at the sports game at home out at the lake all these people that are alive because of the ones that gave their life. They don't even pay attention to that day. and that Christmas Jesus came and died to give us life to save us all from the incurable disease of sin in our blood and yet today on Sunday. There are less people in this country in church and they are doing their own thing. Not realizing the gift that was given how expensive is it the Bible even tells you and tries to compare two or three things looking 1st, Peter 1 18 and 19 knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things like silver or gold for a misconduct received by divisions from your father's but guess what cured you the Precious Blood of what of Christ as a lamb without blemish and without spot folks there is nothing more expensive in the blood of Christ matter fact, it's so expensive. There is no earthly amount of money that could pay for that why it's a very limited Source it belongs in the veins of Jesus only. That it's behind it's Priceless the gift Jesus gave you it's priceless. That's why I got this is beyond imagination. We can't put a price on the blood of Jesus. We can't put a price on a matter fact. You can't find it anywhere Acts chapter 20 verse 28 reminds you of another way that affect the sermon I know you guys all think I can go on forever. But when I looked up blood in the Bible to show you the emphasis of this it was so many verses I couldn't even I had to really chop it down there look up blood sometimes and you'll see and I'm sure you enough this morning just to show you how many times it keeps repeating it. Therefore take heed to yourselves into the flock among the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. So this is talking about pastors and deacons. You're the shepherd the Church of God and take care of it. Which guess what that church was purchased with his what?
That's that's the real Church the one that's bought with the expensive. Unbelievable blood of put it this way. Maybe they have some information for you. God gave his own blood to save you. That's why we say if God can't do it for you at the cross. Nothing will. nothing will number for you with me saying amen sacrifice a great gift of sacrifice.
You can go to fast food at the bottom line is whatever you spend money on somebody you sacrificed somewhere else. You could use that money. Somewhere else you if you made a gift you sacrificed time. They just trying to go shopping to sacrifice. Can I get an amen? I'm not kidding about that man at Bed Bath & Beyond. I never go on bedroom candle day. I didn't even mention you how crazy is you know, what they give the customers when they walk in the store. They have a special tray with six holders in it for the candles candle special cuz they know people come by the droves and it was like 30 bucks when you get a break dollars women were like satanic in that store. I thought I was in the Garden of Eden. Amen. Lady kept saying just a stick handle. No, I don't want to touch their fruit a man, but I will then that's a new Christmas tradition for me when I put up my tree. I will call Bed Bath & Beyond what's candle day? Thank you boom, but it's a sacrifice. do you ever understand what Jesus is saying in John 10, 17 and 18 and he repeats it twice there for my father loves me because I what lay down my life. I'm sacrificing it. Nobody's taking it from me. Go to 18 and repeats it. No one takes it from me. I lay it down. It's a sacrifice member I could call 10,000 angels. I want you to know clearly that I who have never been dead. I'm going to decide to die for you. I'm going to die for you. I'm going to go somewhere I never went before so you get your Christmas present. It is a greatest sacrifice of all time matter fact with the first person that God made a covenant with Abraham. The one thing yes Abraham the first person who established a covenant with the Shay that Jesus was coming. What was the great thing? He asked Abraham to do sacrifice his child as an example of the great thing that God would do and he said don't do it. I'll send my son. The greatest sacrifice of all time. Are you starting? I hope to understand why the rejection of Christ is what SEALs the fate of a person because God went through so much to give you this gif. I was thankful person got me a present. But what am I going to do with a pinata? My kids came up to me told me clearly go to the store buy some candy that sell it and give it to us. Amen. Sometimes you get a gift if you look at in the kind of like what you like and I don't know what I'm going to do with this amen. But other times when you're my mother-in-law got me some socks. I was telling her I just happen to tell her eyes over a house after church when I was taking off my shoes relaxers take a shoe that I had a hole in my sock. She laughed our Christmas and got me some dress socks and a man and a lot of times you get a gift from somebody at church that really just a lot of people here. I drove about Cracker Barrel in some people that Cracker Barrel's my favorite restaurant world. I like it, but it ain't it's just that I was a joke about butts only people are so thoughtful. Sometimes you give me a Cracker Barrel why it's perfect a gift sometimes is great because it's exactly what you need. Let me tell you about the desperation of your situation. You know, how bad you're saying is you send with every part of your body. You send the Nuys you send with your mouth. You send your nose that person thinks I never smell like that you send with your hands you send with each foot you send in your mind you sending your actions. You've been sending your thoughts a bit. Have you send in your dreams? You send every day multiple times a day. If you went to a doctor and said you had a send problem. The doctor would come back and say we don't have enough medicine. To cure you of your problem. I memorize Pat needed a iron shot. She was really a bulimic one time and then the doctor let me know that iron pills. You take only about 3% of it gets in your body. So they had to give her a shot with a hundred percent of it gets right in your body One-Shots 800 bucks. But it cured everything but I'm just trying to do magic what your bill would be the heat on your shirt. And first of all, they don't have enough so I can call you can't afford it. We need a gift that's useful and taking care of all the problem that you have to understand what Jesus did for you first John chapter 1 verse 7 tells you but if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus is son cleanses us from what's in
Auction at expensive unbelievable blood as cleanse you of every sin you've ever done. That's a pretty useful gift. There's not one thing I've ever done wrong that it doesn't take care of. The most useful gift you'll ever get is the gift that heals you from not going to hell but going to heaven. It's the greatest gift. The final one is something that I'll compare it to but it's a little different. The last one is how many of you know, no matter how good a gift is in time. I can definitely wear off. One of the reasons flowers is a gift that some people don't like is what happened to the flowers in a week. I want to trash pretty much right to say you got somebody give you a car for Christmas when you're great, but still after 15 years of that Karzai all the kids woke up there all the 15 year old kids are not drink pastor preaching. I know I'm not sure what you get my meaning either. You got a brand new car. Where would it be 10-15 years from now even this year here at church and even at my house had to replace some Christmas decorations. What happens to him over time being always they don't start to look like Evergreen. They start to look like our desert climate around here a man. So bottom line is but what's so great about Jesus's gift it last. ever what a difference forever. That's why when it says his gifts Indescribable. There's some parts of it that will compare to what we know but we can't get look at just a few things. God tells us about heaven in Revelation chapter 21 verse 3, that should be enough anyway, and I heard a loud voice from Heaven saying the whole the Tabernacle God is with men and he will dwell with them and they will be his people God himself will be with them and be their God books. The first thing about heaven is Jesus going to live with you that's enough right there. That's enough right there. Perfect. Love perfect. God perfect Creator right there next to you. I don't know about you. I got a list going to pull out my landlord. Why? Why did you do this? Why you do that from the Redskins dunk every year Lord.
Number for all this is a big one. I will wipe every tear from their eyes. Do you know one of the things that's bad about Christmas is if you have a pain especially in your family, it's magnified because it's a family time. I understand for some people going through this time of year. It might be painful for many reasons years. Are we lost both of our grandchildren premature babies one around Thanksgiving one around Christmas. Jesus says guess what? I'm going to fix your broken heart. I'ma wipe every tear away and guess what the next part even better no more death nor sorrow no quiet crying and for anybody 50 and above which includes me we understand they'll be no more pain a man. . For the former things have passed away in verse 5 says guess what then he sat on the throne behold, I make all things new and he said to me guess what you can write this down. You know what he's trying to say that you can take it to the bank. You want to make sure you believe this write it down. I'll keep my word that you just get I'll keep my word no more pain no more broken heart live forever. No more sick be with Christ be with the people you love what a gift and it lasts only forever continue and he said to me it's done. I am the Alpha and Omega the beginning in the end. I will give her the Fountain of the water freely to him first. That's eternal life Oaks you get to drink there forever. And whoever comes when they heard these things and I'll be as God and he'll be my son. Guess what you going to be part of the family forever. One of the things I'm looking for the minister. I've done many funerals for people over the years. I have known very well only met at the end of their life. I'm looking forward to seeing some safe people in heaven that I never knew. Hall of Fame of the thousands of people that have played football maybe three to five hundred are in the Hall of Fame did the greatest of all-time give me an idea Hall of Fame football players go to sports places and they'll get paid $5,000 to sit down and sign autographs for just an hour they are treasured by people now this is not just a Hall of Famer cuz this could be valuable if it was any Hall of Famers helmet, but this is a Redskin Hall of Famer which makes it specific to me specific to what I like now Sonny Jurgensen if you don't know is one of the top all-time V Washington Redskin guy Smith autograph on this helmet makes this helmet worth if you look it up somewhere between 3 to $5,000. Okay now well Pastor who knows if that's a real signing who knows that that's for real but here's the picture of Sonny Jurgensen signing the helmet that you get at the real thing, but this is what makes it real. That's the authentication card by the NFL. Which makes it an authentic item, but you could go to an auction and make some some real money. Why would it is it useful? I might not be useful but all of us like to decorate our house nice right with things that we like. So this goes in a nice place in my house when my wife cleans house. I don't care if she doesn't the fans but you're better duster a man and that's the bottom line. Right? So the hell is clean. So we got here expense. What do we got special gift for me? What we got is a decoration item in my house that I love. What are we got somebody sacrifice? How many gave me something that cost them some money?

Here's what's important about a gift. If you ever get it, I no longer ever. Look at this helmet as a Washington Redskin helmet. I don't look at it as Sonny Sonny Jurgensen helmet, you know what this means to me now every time I look at it, I think the stand line. All of a sudden now, the gift is a connection to a friend that's passed away. All of a sudden the gift has went up in a lot of expense and in sentimentality to me. It's no longer the Redskins. It's about the heart of a friend of mine that I missed every time I look at this GIF now, I don't even think of Redskins first. I think of this gift and I think of Stan Me and Stan had some of the goofiest times if you never met Stan Stan was incredibly funny down also did things with a lot of zest in Augusta and real hard one time. His wife told me. He was outside cutting the Hedge and when he wants to get something done he goes real fast, but you reach to do a certain hedge, but he put his head between the Clippers and it did real hard. He knocked himself out. Stop teasing because when you see like on a hair dryer warning a little guy picture don't be in the tub doing this right I toast and I wanted him to go buy Clippers one time. They have a picture of a guy slamming his head in between it and I will say you're the one that started that cuz that's pretty good return it and that everything goofy. I'll tell you this other story bear with me cuz it's not bad about that. But it's the gift that he also gave me we will have triplets and one time at him and June were in front of us looking in the window with a polar bear. And they were looking at the polar bear at home since then grabbed you like this and walked away real fast, and I walked up to the window to see the polar bear closer and all of a sudden in the world. I put two and two together Stan was escaping the scene of the crime. Santa we didn't know it later that night. We went to go eat something and it smell bad in a restaurant and that's why it smells smells like a polar bear. Established since you don't know I said you better believe it. I know what kind of friend are you? I got my home a Christmas present from Stan the next year a big yellow warning sign that you see on the car roads, and it says beware polar bear Crossing.
my friend my friend a gift to gifts 1 costume preissler a lot of money one cost in 10, but the gifts no longer matter the person matter. Folks every time you look at the cross your best friend gave everything he had to change your life. When you look at the cross, you got to start thinking about Jesus the person it's not a decoration. Not a time of year. It's your best friend who did everything to make sure you going to have the greatest future you could ever imagine matter-of-fact because of what Jesus did I'll get to see stand again. What I want to accomplish with today's sermon that I said, it's Indescribable. You haven't ever get it but here's what should happen to you. Now everytime I look at the step the gifts of stand it reminds me of him because we all get busy. I don't think about 10 all the time. I thought life or my time. I spend less time thinking about standing a lot of other things. But now when I see the gifts, I remember him I think of him and it's not the team I think about or the polar bear smiling. It's laughing his friendship to me and what I would tell you is this we don't think about Jesus as much as we do we should we don't think about him half the time like we should but from now on when you see the cross what I want to accomplish for you is the same thing. I'm trying to tell you about this. Can you love them a little more each time? Each time. Can you fall in love with Christ little more there are so many people that I indifferent forget Sinners. They don't know no better now. So many Christians are in different the Christ. It really take it for granite use it with passion. How dare you have to say. I can tell it by their actions. They spend more time talking about others and they talked about Jesus. They spend more time complaining then rejoicing with Christ. I'm telling you this every time you see that cross you should fall more in love with God every single time and I should be your goal. Every time I said, oh my goodness. I can't believe Jesus. That's why I like The Passion of the Christ and help give me a picture of how much he cares about me. How much are the actors in the movie in some areas? I'm talking about the Bible said he didn't look like a man when they were done people that was untruthful what they try to show you that right. It was worse. It's time you get Christmas the fall in love with Christ each time a little more each time a little more each anyone. When do I get their password when you see him cuz we just talked about today's going to live with you one day one day is going to show you I'll show you I think you'll grab his hand and look at it and you'll just start crying as you realize he did that so you could be there that day. That's Christmas. How many people are missing Christmas? I don't get the only gift that matters. the most expensive gift in the world I had close your eyes but ask him to help that Holy Spirit that's in us to teach us to love him more father.
