The bible is a collection of 66 (39 Old Testament and 27 New Testament) books from more than forty authors and was written over the course of approximately 1500 years.

Written by a Farmer, priests, a statesman, fishermen, prophets, a physician, and a tax collector.

The Bible is God’s Self-Revelation

General Revelation - God reveals truth about Himself through creation.

​ ESVThe heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

General Revelation tells us that God is mighty, he is powerful, he is creative.

Special Revelation - God reveals truth about Himself through specific communication.

​ ESV20 knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone’s own interpretation. 21 For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.

The bible is a complete record of God’s specific communication to men.

Luther said,

“Let the man who would hear God speak, read the Holy Scriptures.”

The Bible is God’s revelation about our redemption in Christ.

The Bible is not an instruction manual! It is the revelation of how God redeems sinners through the work of Christ.

The Bible is God’s Perfect Revelation.

Inspiration - Men wrote the bible under the inspiration of the Spirit.

The Bible is both a human and divine book.

“The Bible did not arrive by fax from heaven. The Bible is the product of man, my dear. Not of God.”

Inerrancy - The Bible is truth untainted by error.

The Nature of God

​ ESV18 so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.

I grew up sining a song - God can do - anything - anything - anything - God can do anything but fail! Listen God can’t lie! He can’t do anything - he can’t act inconsistent with his character. The Word is under attack

Satan wants you to doubt the Word of God

​ ESV1 Now the serpent was more crafty than any other beast of the field that the Lord God had made. He said to the woman, “Did God actually say, ‘You shall not eat of any tree in the garden’?”

Satan wants you to deny the word of God.

​ ESV4 But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

Spurgeon said,

He that reads the bible to find fault with it will soon discover that the bible finds fault with him.

The Bible is the perfect revelation so you can trust it.

The Bible is God’s Sufficient Revelation.

The Bible contains everything we need for salvation and Godly living.

2 Timothy 3:15–17 ESV

15 and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

​ ESV4 But he answered, “It is written, “ ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ”

The bible is enough. We don’t need gimmicks. Why do I preach verse by verse? Because I believe that the word of God is enough to transform the people of God. Important point - Not in Notes or on Screen!

The word of God is more important than bread. So you gotta have it!

The Bible is God’s Authoritative Revelation.

​ ESV2 All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.

When we disobey or disbelieve the Scriptures we disobey or disbelieve God.

ApplicationIf we believe the bible to be the word of God it ought to be our treasure. That means reading it, memorizing it (which Im not good at - but scripture memorization is not for kids its for Christians!!!), meditate on it, give our selves to the preaching and teaching of the word! If the word of God is food for our souls then its time for us to feast and fast. If we believe the bible to be the word of God we ought to live by it! When we walk with the Lord in the Light of His word what a glory he sheds on our way while we do his good will he abides with us still and with all who will trust and obey - Trust and obey for there’s now other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and obey!
