Christmas for me growing up A celebration with a seriousness. Uncle Robert reading the Christmas story about the birth of the savior Jesus. Profound, mysterious, but a gift unopened. It was a gift I knew about, but never really opened. A gift unopened can't be enjoyed as it was intended.

The more we connect with Him, the more we reflect Him.

The Fall If you are familiar with the Bible at all, you will know that Bible begins with a story about God creating humanity to live in paradise with Him, but it isn't long before they began to disregard the Creator and we read of the first murders, the first wars, the first curses, the first instances of slavery, racism, hate, and all manner of evil.

It shares story after story of a nation that prospered when they followed God and that became oppressive and violent and broken when they disregarded Him.

The story begins interjecting prophecies that God was going to reveal Himself in human form to show them what He was like and how much He loved them, release the oppressed, open blinded eyes, release captives, bring peace and blessing to nations.

They predicted that He would suffer and die to pay the penalty for our wrong doing and bring us into relationship with God. His Spirit would also enable us to partner with Him to bring peace on earth.

The Incarnation Through many prophecies we see a picture of what that was going to look like.

And if these aren’t enough, Daniel actually prophesied () around 500 years ahead of time when the Messiah would come and die for us!

Mathematicians (Stoner, 108) have calculated the probability of sixteen predictions being fulfilled in one man (e.g., Jesus) at 1 in 1045. That forty-eight predictions might meet in one person, the probability is 1 in 10157.

God takes the initiative in restoring people through connection to Him.

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (, NIV)

whoever "opens the gift" shall not perish.

whoever "opens the gift" shall not perish.

I want to invite you to not just assent to the facts of the birth, the prophecies, or the resurrection, but to begin to unwrap the gift. Enjoy the gift of Jesus. He is meant to be experienced and followed, not just believed.
