169 Let my cry come before You, O Lord;
Give me understanding according to Your word.
170 Let my supplication come before You;
Deliver me according to Your word.
171 Let my lips utter praise,
For You teach me Your statutes.
172 Let my tongue sing of Your word,
For all Your commandments are righteousness.
173 Let Your hand be ready to help me,
For I have chosen Your precepts.
174 I long for Your salvation, O Lord,
And Your law is my delight.
175 Let my soul live that it may praise You,
And let Your ordinances help me.
176 I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek Your servant,
For I do not forget Your commandments.
Psalms 119:
Intro: The writer; David. God’s word has established him. It had strengthened him. It had transformed him. But he still wanted more of God.
I. Lord, hear me. VS 169-172

Let my cry come near before thee, O Lord:
Give me understanding according to thy word.
169 Let my cry come before You, O Lord;
Give me understanding according to Your word.
“Let my cry come before you”
His plea and his prayer is to come before God. His desire is to come before God.
a. His prayer was for a greater understanding. “Give me understanding”
b. The best way to understand God’s word is to get into it yourself and ask him for understanding.
c. Understanding was the first petition in his prayer.
170 Let my supplication come before thee:
Deliver me according to thy word.

Deliver me according to Your word.
“supplication” or petitions. His petition was to be delivered according to God’s word.
a. “deliver me” or rescue me. This was David did when he took the lamb out of the mouth of the loin.
b. David had faced his enemies. He needed an understanding of God’s word to help him overcome his enemies.
171 My lips shall utter praise,
When thou hast taught me thy statutes.
171 Let my lips utter praise,
For You teach me Your statutes.
“Utter praise” or pour out praise.
“When you teach me your statutes” (Law commandments)
The basis for his praise is for God to teach him his law. For this he was eager.
118 Thou hast trodden down all them that err from thy statutes:
For their deceit is falsehood.
172 My tongue shall speak of thy word:
For all thy commandments are righteousness.
Psalm 119:11
172 Let my tongue sing of Your word,
For all Your commandments are righteousness.
He prays that his tongue could speak or sing of God’s word. That would be a witness.
a. A witness that God’s commandments are righteousness.
b. God’s word is to be on our tongues and our hearts.

34 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.
This is not what we want, but what comes out of the months of false teachers.
11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart,

For I have chosen Your precepts.
He has God’s word as his foundation and had chosen to obey that word. So he will honor God.
Psalm 119:
174 I have longed for thy salvation, O Lord;
And thy law is my delight.
Psalm 119:
174 I long for Your salvation, O Lord,
And Your law is my delight.
Salvation: Deliverance or rescue from his enemies.
God will rescue us from. Worry. Sickness. Depression.
“your law is my delight”

And let Your ordinances help me.
When life flows in, praise flows out.
