Opening Prayer:

Lord may your Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven and may you will be done in our lives as it is in heaven. Quicken our hearts to respond to you according to your Spirits leading today. Amen.

AW Tozer says, “that the most important thing about you is what you believe about God. “

Dallas Willard says, “to enable people to become disciples we must change whatever it is in their actual belief system that bars confidence in Jesus as Master of the Universe.”

belief system that bars confidence in Jesus as Master of the Universe

Jesus Christ says, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me.”

This claim of Christ is what I want to challenge you with today! He is saying I am the what is real, what is most important
John 10:9 NASB95
9 “I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.
Saved from a life of lostness, frivolousness, distraction, slavery, and judgement to a life characterized by the new realities of the living God. God seeks to impart and help me live a life now and forever that He deems right! It should be these new realities of God’s life that cast a shadow onto the things that now have our attention, and allow us to see them as they really are.... vanities. What an audacious claim!
2 Peter 3:13 NASB95
13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
The Prophet Isaiah’s speaking word of Hope to Israel
Isaiah 65:17 NASB95
17 “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former things will not be remembered or come to mind.
Isaiah
The Apostle John’s Vision of the New Heaven and New Earth
Revelation 21:22–27 NASB95
22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. 25 In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed; 26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it; 27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
(NASB95)
22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
24 The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.
27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
Peter’s words at the end of 2 Peter
25 In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed;
26 and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it;
27 and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.
2 Peter 3:12–18 NASB95
12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, 15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, 16 as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. 17 You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard so that you are not carried away by the error of unprincipled men and fall from your own steadfastness, 18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory, both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Steadfastness is about stability - stability takes time and many of you are out of time. Not that the clock has hit zero, but that God is getting your leftovers, or a small designated amount. (Picture of glass bottles with beans.) I am not here to tell how each of you should be spending your time. I am telling you that your use of time should reflect Christ.
Who Am I?
2 peter 3:13-
Steadfastness is all about Identity? Who you define yourself to be is what you will seek after and how you will judge your “happiness.” Young Adult Christians struggle to be defined by God, because I don’t think they think it matters that much. If we took to social media or asked your friends what defines you their answers would be exceedingly interesting. If you looked through your text messages and sought to summarize what you find there what do you think you would find. These days our phones are a window into our souls. Who are we talking to and about what? What are we spending our time doing and why? I wonder if anyone has ever asked what would Jesus’ or Paul’s, Peter’s, Stephen’s, James’, Barnabus’ or Philip’s phones (if they had them) would tell about how they lived their lives. I don’t want that to feel like a cheap shot, because your lives aren’t cheap. They are incredibly valuable. Your life multiplies in value as it is connected to Christ.
Jesus must move from being just our savior, to being our Lord. Jesus must reign in our lives. He must reign in my life. He must reign in yours. Jesus was literally born to reign over all. Use this next week to let Him reign in your life. If Christ has the ability to save me then He is Lord of all and if He is Lord of all then He is most certainly Lord of me.
Acts 2:36 NASB95
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both Lord and Christ—this Jesus whom you crucified.”
Matthew 3:8 NASB95
8 “Therefore bear fruit in keeping with repentance;

Colossians 1:9–12 NASB95
9 For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; 11 strengthened with all power, according to His glorious might, for the attaining of all steadfastness and patience; joyously 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified us to share in the inheritance of the saints in Light.
Prayer Close:
This is a prayer to accompany your abiding activity. You may have been busy and have every excuse to not have consistent time with the Lord and His people. Carve that time out (like taking a knife to a piece of wood) from your schedule. It will reposition you to be under God’s direction. I have struggled with this a bit this semester as well and I am going to take the time over the holiday’s to reestablish my family time with my heavenly father.
Response Time:
There are response cards on the table. Please let us know how I can be praying for you over the break and if you want Katie or I to follow-up with you about the thing. We will be available all week and will be working in 1420 if you are wanting to get some time with us before the break. We would love to talk with you about anything, this week would be a great time to get together.
