This is not about how we pray but about the foundation of our prayer
To understand lets look at the two passages written in our passage
Institutes of the Christian Religion Chapter 20: Prayer, a Perpetual Exercise of Faith
Father. By this we are reminded how strong the feeling of brotherly love between us ought to be, since we are all alike, by the same mercy and free kindness, the children
Institutes of the Christian Religion Chapter 20: Prayer, a Perpetual Exercise of Faith
The instruction given us, however, is not that every individual in particular is to call him Father, but rather that we are all in common to call him Our Father. By this we are reminded how strong the feeling of brotherly love between us ought to be, since we are all alike, by the same mercy and free kindness, the children of such a Father.
Deuteronomy
And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the Lord your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil.
And Ahab made a grove; and Ahab did more to provoke the Lord God of Israel to anger than all the kings of Israel that were before him.
And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
Jacob is teaching us that we are in the days of God’s judgement and we must look to God in dependence to find help
not only in water but verse 10, verse 14 and verse 15 we see dependence on God
We show dependence through Patience (9-11)
Behold, the farmer waits
Behold, the judge stands
I do not defend myself but God is the judge
Behold, the prophets speak in the name of God
No matter what we speak the will of God (Elijah and Ahab)
We trust in God and his commandments
Behold, those that wait receive a reward
We have an example from the past that God will bless
We know what God is like
we are more than conquerings
As we wait for the Lord we will never be without hope because we know him. Therefore, the more we get to know him the closer we want to be with him.
We show dependence through Prayer (12-16)
We pray no matter what circumstance we are in
In good times and bad (13)
Just like David in
If we pray it is powerful because he is powerful
In prayer we are saying “I need you”
We don’t pray to get all the things, we pray to get HIM
WE NEED his help, his peace, his comfort, his joy, his wisdom
As we wait for the Lord and seek him in prayer we serve him in this evil world. This service and action shows our dependence
We show dependence through Action (17-18)
We do not make vows like the world (12)
hami p/ratna gr/cw
We put all things into his hands (14)
We trust in his will
हामी
We stand and intercede for the world
We bring people to God
We know that without God we have nothing because all things come from him
As God’s people we pray to remember our dependence on HIm
Through our actions of dependence we show others around us that they need God
