There are some great character traits and benefits in these verses, the traits we have previously looked at and the benefits we will, hopefully, get to tonight but still have more to cover on character qualify of the kingdom dweller.

Character Qualities Continued

Character, the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. Linked with personality, nature, disposition and temperament. These qualities are just adding on to, are linked to the previous ones.
Remember in the Beatitudes we are talking about kingdom dwellers who are blessed and here we continue with more character quality traits.
Kingdom dwellers are blessed and
They are
Matthew 5:7–8 NASB95
7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy. 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Matthew 5:9–10 NASB95
9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. 10 “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 5:11–12 NASB95
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. 12 “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
___________________________________________
They are merciful (Mt5:7; Lk23:34; Act7:60)
Defined as compassion for people who are in need.
They are pure in heart (Mt5:8; Psm24:3-4)
Defined as singleness of heart; hypocrisy free!
They are peacemakers (Mt5:9; Rom12:18-21; Rom5:1; Eph6:15)
Defined as those who make concerted effort to make peace with man and bring man to have peace with God.
They are persecuted for righteousness sake (Mt5:10-12; Act14:21-22; Php1:29-30; 2Tim3:12)
_________________________________________
They are merciful (Mt5:7; Lk23:34; Act7:60)
Mercy is compassion for people who are in need. It works hand in hand oftentimes with grace. Mercy deals with what we see, grace deals with the sin and guilt itself. in (Mt5:7) Jesus does not signify who the kingdom dweller is to offer mercy to. Jesus and Stephen displayed mercy to those who did wrong to them, in the midst of it.
Jesus towards those who crucified Him
Luke 23:34 NASB95
34 But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.
(And so we see with Stephen to those who stoned him
Acts 7:60 NASB95
60 Then falling on his knees, he cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them!” Having said this, he fell asleep.
Act7:60
Jesus will continue to emphasis this character quality for kingdom dwellers on several other occasions I’m just referencing for your notes
When teaching on prayer (Mt6:14-15)
In parable of unforgiving servant (Mt18:21-35)
Commentator Lenski says:
“This virtue grows out of our personal experience of the mercy of God.”
and now this brings us to the next character quality, character trait of the kingdom dweller
They are merciful (Mt5:7; Lk23:34; Act7:60)
They are pure in heart (Mt5:8; Psm24:3-4)
Pure in heart defined as singleness of heart, honesty which has no hidden motive or selfish interest. It is true, and it is open in all things. Hypocrisy free!
They are persecuted for righteousness sake (Mt5:10-12; Act14:21-22; Php1:29-30; 2Tim3:12)
According to scripture this is a quality that is necessary to see God
They are peacemakers (Mt5:9; Rom12:18-21; Rom5:1; Eph6:15)
Psalm 24:3–4 NASB95
3 Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? And who may stand in His holy place? 4 He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to falsehood And has not sworn deceitfully.
They are persecuted for righteousness sake (Mt5:10-12; Act14:21-22; Php1:29-30; 2Tim3:12)
Now moving on to the next quality of the kingdom dweller
They are merciful (Mt5:7; Lk23:34; Act7:60)
They are pure in heart (Mt5:8; Psm24:3-4)
They are peacemakers (Mt5:9; Rom12:18-21; Rom5:1; Eph6:15)
The kingdom dweller is one who devote their lives to making peace by following the Prince of peace. In other words
Defined as those who make concerted effort to make peace with man and bring man to have peace with God.
Romans 12:18–19 NASB95
18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
Romans 12:20–21 NASB95
20 But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.
I cannot stay away from peace with God
Romans 5:1 NASB95
1 Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
ROm5:1
And you may consider Eph6:15 and look that one up yourselves.
May we be people who strive for peace; who actively pursue peace
From peacemakers to persecution, from reconciliation to the experience of hostility. And there will be people, regardless of our efforts to strive, to pursue peace who will refuse to live at peace with us.
Defined as those who make concerted effort to make peace with man and bring man to have peace with God.
They are merciful (Mt5:7; Lk23:34; Act7:60)
Defined as compassion for people who are in need.
They are pure in heart (Mt5:8; Psm24:3-4)
They are peacemakers (Mt5:9; Rom12:18-21; Rom5:1; Eph6:15)
They are peacemakers (Mt5:9; Rom12:18-21; Rom5:1; Eph6:15)
They are persecuted for righteousness sake (Mt5:10-12; Act14:21-22; Php1:29-30; 2Tim3:12)
They are persecuted for righteousness sake (Mt5:10-12; Act14:21-22; Php1:29-30; 2Tim3:12)
Just as a reminder here are the verses
Matthew 5:10–11 NASB95
10 “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.
Matthew 5:12 NASB95
12 “Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
A couple of thoughts real quick from Lenski, just paraphrased
Because of the passive perfect tense used for persecution in the verse, it seems it may be regarded as permissive
The kingdom dweller who, for Jesus sake, allowed themselves to be persecuted, reviled, reproached, or slandered falsely.
Now to back up those comments with scripture
Acts 14:21–22 NASB95
21 After they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”
Add to what Paul says
Philippians 1:29–30 NASB95
29 For to you it has been granted for Christ’s sake, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake, 30 experiencing the same conflict which you saw in me, and now hear to be in me.
or what Paul said to Timothy
2 Timothy 3:12 NASB95
12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.
Does it sound like persecution or tribulation is going to be avoided?
So, here we have all these character traits, qualities for the kingdom dwellers and with the character comes the blessings and I want to look at those too tonight.

Benefits for kingdom dwellers

Blessed; made holy, consecrated, one enjoying happiness, one having the benefits of living with God in heaven, it also means one having comfort.

Benefits both present and future

Many companies have benefit packages; the benefits for the kingdom dwellers are out of this world, and in this world, but as compared to a companies benefit package Kingdom dwellers packages are for eternity not just employment.
_______________________________________________
Theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Mt4:17; Mt5:3, Mt5:10; Mt16:18; Col1:13; Rev1:9)
Just as the kingdom is both present and future, we shall see the blessings are described as both present and future
________________________________________________
Theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Mt4:17; Mt5:3, Mt5:10; Mt16:18; Col1:13; Rev1:9)
Matthew 4:17 NASB95
17 From that time Jesus began to preach and say, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
Those who receive the kingdom are those who are under the kingly rule, reign and authority of God.
Those receive a spiritual kingdom in which they are in now
Those who receive the kingdom are in a spiritual kingdom “the church” which is a manifestation of the kingdom of heaven
Matthew 16:18 NASB95
18 “I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of Hades will not overpower it.
Colossians 1:13 NASB95
13 For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,
Revelation 1:9 NASB95
9 I, John, your brother and fellow partaker in the tribulation and kingdom and perseverance which are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus.
I know I may have mentioned these verses before, but you just cannot stay away from the scripture as it fits and we are talking about benefits of being a kingdom dweller
Theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Mt4:17; Mt5:3, Mt5:10; Mt16:18; Col1:13; Rev1:9)
Just as the kingdom is both present and future, we shall see the blessings are described as both present and future

So now lets break down some of the benefits
Shall be Comforted ( Mt5:4; 2Cor1:3-5; Rev21:1-4)

_________________________________________________
Some of the benefits taken from the passage as well as some other biblical passages to go with the blessedness for the kingdom dwellers.
Shall be Comforted ( Mt5:4; 2Cor1:3-5; Rev21:1-4)
In present tense in Mt5:4 and a good cross reference
2 Corinthians 1:3–4 NASB95
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
2 Corinthians 1:5 NASB95
5 For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ.
And in the future sense
Revelation 21:1–2 NASB95
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:3 NASB95
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
Revelation 21:4 NASB95
4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
Shall be Comforted ( Mt5:4; 2Cor1:3-5; Rev21:1-4)
Shall Inherit the earth (Mt5:5; Mt6:33; Mk10:29-30)
So staying with present and future, present in Mt5:5; and it happens as a result of putting the kingdom of God first
Shall receive mercy (Mt5:7; Rom5:9; Rev1:5-6)
Matthew 6:33 NASB95
33 “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Mark 10:29–30 NASB95
29 Jesus said, “Truly I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or farms, for My sake and for the gospel’s sake, 30 but that he will receive a hundred times as much now in the present age, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and farms, along with persecutions; and in the age to come, eternal life.
In Mark you both in present and in future but I want to give you another
2 Peter 3:10–11 NASB95
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up. 11 Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness,
2 Peter 3:12–13 NASB95
12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! 13 But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.
Shall be Comforted ( Mt5:4; 2Cor1:3-5; Rev21:1-4)
Shall Inherit the earth (Mt5:5; Mt6:33; Mk10:29-30)
Shall be filled/Satisfied (Mt5:6; Php3:8-9; Rom5;9: Rev19:5-9)
TO be filled with righteousness as found in Mt5:6 that is only found in Christ Jesus
Shall see God (Mt5:8; Jn14:6-7; REv21:3; Rec22:3-4)
Shall be called sons of God (Mt5:9; 1Jn3:1-2; Rev21:5-7)
Shall see God (Mt5:8; Jn14:6-7; REv21:3; Rec22:3-4)
Philippians 3:8–9 NASB95
8 More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, 9 and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith,
Shall be called sons of God (Mt5:9; 1Jn3:1-2; Rev21:5-7)
that is present tense upon receiving Christ
Romans 5:9 NKJV
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him.
Saved now and future from wrath to come; all in preparation for the wedding supper of the lamb (Rev19:5-9)
Shall receive mercy (Mt5:7; Rom5:9; Rev1:5-6)
Shall Inherit the earth (Mt5:5; Mt6:33; Mt10:29-30)
Shall be filled/Satisfied (Mt5:6; Php3:8-9; Rom5;9: Rev19:5-9)
Shall receive mercy (Mt5:7; Rom5:9; Rev1:5-6)
Shall be called sons of God (Mt5:9; 1Jn3:1-2; Rev21:5-7)
Kingdom dwellers enjoy the forgiveness (mercy) as noted in Mt5:7; that happens because of the blood of Christ (Rom5:9) present and future with:
Shall be filled/Satisfied (Mt5:6; Php3:8-9; Rom5;9: Rev19:5-9)
Revelation 1:5–6 NASB95
5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him who loves us and released us from our sins by His blood— 6 and He has made us to be a kingdom, priests to His God and Father—to Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.
Shall receive mercy (Mt5:7; Rom5:9; Rev1:5-6)
Shall be Comforted ( Mt5:4; 2Cor1:3-5; Rev21:1-4)
Shall Inherit the earth (Mt5:5; Mt6:33; Mt10:29-30)
Shall be filled/Satisfied (Mt5:6; Php3:8-9; Rom5;9: Rev19:5-9)
Shall receive mercy (Mt5:7; Rom5:9; Rev1:5-6)
Shall see God (Mt5:8; Jn14:6-7; Rev21:3; Rev22:3-4)
We are able to today to see God through Jesus, to the apostles visually to us through the imparted word.
John 14:6–7 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. 7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; from now on you know Him, and have seen Him.”
But what a blessing it will be one day when we get to see Him face to face
Revelation 21:3 NASB95
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
Revelation 22:3–4 NASB95
3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
So how do you like the benefits package offered? Are you a recipient of them? Are you hopeful of the ones for your eternal retirement? Certainly I’m confident you can see that the benefits of the kingdom outweigh any benefits this world has to offer.
(Encouragement slide) encouragement (exit slide) prayer
Shall see God (Mt5:8; Jn14:6-7; REv21:3; Rec22:3-4)
Shall be called sons of God (Mt5:9; 1Jn3:1-2; Rev21:5-7)
