Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs.

WHO AM I

Introduction: In the setting of this event, Jesus encountered four types of people.

Those on the Galilee side of the sea.

Those in the midst of the Galilee sea.

Those on the Gadarea side of the Galilee sea.

There was a underlying reason why Jesus wanted to get to the other side.

He was willing to face a life threatening storm to get there.

He wanted his followers to get there also, knowing it may cost them their lives in the process.

Where are they going?

The Fish And The Loaves Crowd

Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

The Crowd On The Ship

Matthew 14:22 KJV 1900

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

Constrain - compel or force (someone) to follow a particular course of action.

Our job is to reach the lost at any cost.

Help is on the way.

This is not a suggestion it is a command by Jesus.

Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

The Demonic Possess Man

Constrain - compel or force (someone) to follow a particular course of action.

Demonic possession is believed by some to be the process by which individuals are possessed by volent beings, commonly referred to as demons or devils. Symptoms of demonic possessions often include erased memories or personalities, epileptic seizures or “fits, and fainting as if one were dying.

This man wanted help

He cut himself with sharp stones. (self circumcision)

Sometimes they would through themselves in the fire. (Self empowerment)

He dwell among the dead.

But when got the opportunity he ran to Jesus. (If you are not saved this morning in the place you ought to be running to Jesus.

The Leave Us Alone Crowd

They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again.

Do come by my house no more.
