What do you think is better in life to do - Giving or Getting?
A study from U.C. Berkeley says,
1. Giving makes us feel happy.
2. Giving is good for our health.
3. Giving promotes cooperation and social connection.
4. Giving evokes gratitude.
5. Giving is contagious.
You can only give what you have
If you were the richest, most caring person in the world and gave it all away, it still wouldn’t compare to what Jesus gave away for you and me.
John 3:16 - says he GAVE… what did He give… Phil 2:7 says He gave up His equality to God to become a slave to us.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.
He pursued us when we were not pursuing Him… WOW! And He wants us to enjoy that revelation of giving love and then pass it on.
In other words, what we receive , enjoy, and experience, must be shared or given with His love stamped on it.
If I were to speak with eloquence in earth’s many languages, and in the heavenly tongues of angels, yet I didn’t express myself with love, my words would be reduced to the hollow sound of nothing more than a clanging cymbal.
And if I were to have the gift of prophecy with a profound understanding of God’s hidden secrets, and if I possessed unending supernatural knowledge, and if I had the greatest gift of faith that could move mountains, but have never learned to love, then I am nothing.
And if I were to be so generous as to give away everything I owned to feed the poor, and to offer my body to be burned as a martyr, without the pure motive of love, I would gain nothing of value.
1. Take a moment to reflect on the love of God reflected in the coming of Christ.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
2. Ask God to reveal all the ways in which he has been pursuing you lately. Allow the coming of Jesus to build your faith that God pursues you still.
3. Take time to respond to God’s pursuit by offering him your heart. Crown him King of your life that all you are and have might be his. Commit to living today in response to God’s great love for you.
“Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” Psalm 132:7
Now use this Christmas to go and do likewise
