Finding True Jesus
Finding True Jesus
We think we know Jesus, but many may know of Jesus but not truly know Jesus. Today we are going to look at what scripture reveals about True Jesus and how we can know Him and be known by Him.
_______________________________________
Many ways to heaven? (Jn14:6)
Is belief in Jesus enough? (Jam2:19)
Must we abide? (Jn8:31; Jn1:14)
What are the benefits of finding True Jesus? (Eph1:3)
____________________________________________
Many ways to heaven? (Jn14:6)
It has been said there are many ways to heaven, Jesus is just one of the ways. But Jesus says something different.
Must we abide? (Jn8:31; Jn1:14)
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
But when it comes to Jesus we need to have the right conception of Him. Right conception to then know we need to come to Him the way He commands. If we want the benefits of Jesus, a better lie, a blessed life, we need to know the True Jesus that is found in the Bible
What are the benefits of finding True Jesus? (Eph1:3)
Many ways to heaven? (Jn14:6)
Is belief in Jesus enough? (Jam2:19)
What we believe is important, but what we believe is not enough. Look at what James says
What are the benefits of finding True Jesus? (Eph1:3)
19 You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.
Many ways to heaven? (Jn14:6)
Is belief in Jesus enough? (Jam2:19)
Must we abide? (Jn8:31; Jn1:14)
So, we know Jesus is the way, we know that belief is not enough for even the demons believe, Jesus tells us we are to abide in Him.
31 So Jesus was saying to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
So how can we abide in Him, we need to know the Word for He is the Word and we need to abide in the Word.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
For the Word reveals the True Jesus that gives us eternal life and leading us to next point.
Many ways to heaven? (Jn14:6)
Is belief in Jesus enough? (Jam2:9)
Must we abide? (Jn8:31; Jn1:14)
What are the benefits of finding True Jesus? (Eph1:3)
What are the benefits of finding True Jesus? (Eph1:3)
What are the benefits oftio finding True Jesus? (Eph1:3) a
Beyond having our salvation, our sins forgiven, we have the gift of the Holy Spirit (Act2:38) we also have every spiritual blessing
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Now that is a great blessing, a great benefit isn’t it?
Our message today is do we know the True Jesus, let’s press on and explore the True Jesus as revealed through the scripture. For the Bible is a reliable source of information.
True Jesus in the Old Testament
True Jesus in the Old Testament
True Jesus of the New Testament is clearly seen in the Old Testament and referenced in the New Testament back to the Old Testament to prove who True Jesus is.

Starting from Moses and Prophets (Lk24:27;Lk24:45-47)
27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures.
Explained so they would understand.
45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures, 46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day,
44 Now He said to them, “These are My words which I spoke to you while I was still with you, that all things which are written about Me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” 45 Then He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures,
46 and He said to them, “Thus it is written, that the Christ would suffer and rise again from the dead the third day, 47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
47 and that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
Old Testament Wisdom for New Testament Teaching (2Tim3:14-17)
May we use God’s word to help people open their minds to the scripture to comprehend the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
May we use God’s word to help people open their minds to the scripture to comprehend the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus.
Let the passage sink in just for a minute, look at (v.44) “all things.” All things must be fulfilled and all things were fulfilled in Jesus who is the sum of “all things” (think of Eph1:10). Everything that Moses, everything the prophets wrote , everything that has been proclaimed has been fulfilled in Jesus!

Importance of the Old Testament (Rom15:4)
Don’t miss out on True Jesus that is revealed in the Old Testament. Those things are written for our benefit
4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.

The O.T. wisdom for our benefit today
14 You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, 15 and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
16 All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; 17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

I know I have this section title “True Jesus in the Old Testament” and we have not gotten there yet, but without further ado, here we go.
True Jesus and his birth in Old Testament (Isa7:14)
True Jesus and his suffering (Isa53:4-6)
14 “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.
That Son is Jesus, Immanuel, God is with us
True Jesus and his sovereignty (Isa9:6-7)
True Jesus and his birth in Old Testament (Isa7:14)
True Jesus and his suffering (Isa53:4-6)
4 Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. 5 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed.
7 He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, And like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, So He did not open His mouth.
6 All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.
Bore our griefs, carried our sorrows, stricken, smitten, afflicted, pierced, crushed, chastened. But the Lord, took what we had coming due to our sin and placed them on the Son

True Jesus and his birth in Old Testament (Isa7:14)
True Jesus and his suffering (Isa53:4-6)
True Jesus and his sovereignty (Isa9:6-7)
6 For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace. 7 There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, On the throne of David and over his kingdom, To establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness From then on and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.

Whew, all that from what is commonly known as the 5th Gospel, Isaiah. There are some 330 prophetic statements regarding Jesus just in Isaiah, so True Jesus is found in the Old Testament without a doubt.
So now may we transition to the True Jesus seen in the Gospels
True Jesus in the Gospels
True Jesus in the Gospels
I don’t think you will find it hard to believe about finding the True Jesus in the gospels. But each gospel has different purpose, but with a common thread called faith interwoven throughout.
Matthew emphasizes the teaching of Jesus with focus on kingdom of heaven
Mark emphasizes the works of Jesus to prove the authority of Jesus
Luke emphasizes the humanity and the history of Jesus
John emphasizes the divinity of Jesus
____________________________________
As mentioned the common thread is faith, so that you may believe and have eternal life
Eternal life for those who believe (Jn20:30-31)
Eternal life comes from the teaching of Jesus (Mt7:13-14)
Eternal life from the teachings lead to the kingdom (Mt7:21-23)
Entrance to the kingdom is not without a cost (Lk9:23-25)
Entrance comes with a command and a reward (Mt28:18-20)
______________________________________
Faith the common thread throughout the gospels just look at what that does for us.
Eternal life for those who believe (Jn20:30-31)
John says it best when it comes to faith, belief
Eternal life comes from the teaching of Jesus (Mt7:13-14)
30 Therefore many other signs Jesus also performed in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
Eternal life from the teachings lead to the kingdom (Mt7:21-23)
Entrance to the kingdom is not without a cost (Lk9:23-25)
In the O.T. you see with the eyes of prophesy, in the N.T. you see with the eyes of fulfillment since the gospels record the life and teachings of Jesus. So if you want to know the True Jesus you need to know the prophesies of the O.T. and the fulfillment and application in the N.T.
Entrance comes with a command and a reward (Mt28:18-20)
Eternal life for those who believe (Jn20:30-31)
Eternal life comes from the teaching of Jesus (Mt7:13-14)
We know that the teaching of Jesus leads through the narrow gate, there are few who enter the narrow gate
Mt713-14
Entrance to the kingdom is not without a cost (Lk9:23-25)
13 “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. 14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
The narrow gate is revealed about the True Jesus, the way through the gate is laid out in the gospels , but we need to know the way for many will claim but not all will be known by Him
Entrance comes with a command and a reward (Mt28:18-20)
Mt7:21
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. 22 “Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles?’
Mt7:23
23 “And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.’
The narrow gate, found through the teachings, that lead to eternal life to those who believe comes with a cost.
23 And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. 24 “For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it.
25 “For what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits himself?
So, if you want to know the True Jesus you need to deny yourself, take up your cross, your burden of the cross and obey His commands.
Eternal life for those who believe (Jn20:30-31)
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation, to everyone who believes, to the Jews first and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written,'But the righteous shall live by faith.'" Rom1:16-17 (NASB)
Eternal life comes from the teaching of Jesus (Mt7:13-14)
Paul knew, Paul was not ashamed, may we have the same boldness, and if anyone lacks it, ask God through Jesus Christ and He will help you. Help you to further the gospel!
Eternal life from the teachings lead to the kingdom (Mt7:21-23)
Entrance to the kingdom is not without a cost (Lk9:23-25)
Entrance comes with a command and a reward (Mt28:18-20)
18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit,
The command(s): Go, make, baptize
The promise, the reward?
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
The command(s): Go, make, baptize, teach
The promise, the reward? with you always!
True Jesus gave instructions to the apostles who in turn recorded for us to learn and apply. Apostles by inspiration us by perspiration and dedication to do what He commanded. Jesus is not a smorgasbord Jesus, He is authoritative Jesus who has told us what to do, we do not get to pick and choose what we want to take and apply, we are to obey.
True Jesus in Acts/Epistles
True Jesus in Acts/Epistles
True Jesus in the Old Testament, True Jesus revealed and displayed in the Gospels, now we will look at True Jesus as seen in Acts and the Epistles. Old Testament was about eyes of prophesy, Gospels were about eyes of fulfillment. And here in Acts we see, or have eyes for the fulfillment of the commandment, and the promise.

4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
What did they speak? You will have to go and read Act2, but if you did you would see they spoke the gospel, the things leading to the gospel and the gospel which is the power of God through the power of the Holy Spirit to save!
By the power of the Holy Spirit (Act2:4)
By the power of the Word through Apostles (1Cor14:37; 1The2:13; Jn13:20)
Paul stated it best when it said the commands were not his, but how about Paul’s inspired words vs my common words?
37 If anyone thinks he is a prophet or spiritual, let him recognize that the things which I write to you are the Lord’s commandment.
By power of the scriptures (2Tim3:16-17; Gal1:8-9)
By power of faith (Eph2:8; Jude3)
then to the church at Thesolonica
13 For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but for what it really is, the word of God, which also performs its work in you who believe.
and then the words of Jesus himself
20 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who receives whomever I send receives Me; and he who receives Me receives Him who sent Me.”
By receiving the apostles and the words of the apostles people would be receiving Jesus and the Father who sent Him.
By the power of the Holy Spirit (Act2:4)
By the power of the Word through Apostles (1Cor14:37; 1The2:13; Jn13:20)
By power of knowledge of truth (2Pt1:2-3)
By power of Holy Spirit to power through the words of the inspired words of the apostles to know true knowledge and truth, about True Jesus
2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; 3 seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.
By power of faith (Eph2:8; Jude3)
So, Holy Spirit power, word through apostles power, that brings true knowledge of true Jesus that brings our next point
By the power of the Holy Spirit (Act2:4)
By the power of the Word through Apostles (1Cor14:37; 1The2:13; Jn13:20)
By power of knowledge of truth (2Pt1:2-3)
By power of the scriptures (2Tim3:16-17; Gal1:8-9)
By power of faith (Eph2:8; Jude3)
we know we are saved by grace through faith (Eph2:8) but look at this
3 Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation, I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.
Faith that we need to contend with that came through the words of the apostles by the power of the Holy Spirit. May we know True Jesus through the Acts and the Epistles of the Apostles so we can contend with our faith by our obedience.
True Jesus through obedience
True Jesus through obedience
To know True Jesus, or to come to know true Jesus it comes by faith through grace that is activated by obedience. So, you must come by obedience.
_____________________________________________
Come by obedience (abiding) - (Jn8:31-32)
Come by keeping commandments (Jn14:21, 23)
Come and be perfected (1Jn2:3-5)
___________________________________________________________
Come by obedience (abiding) - (Jn8:31-32)
Come by keeping commandments (Jn14:21, 23)
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
Come and be perfected (1Jn2:3-5)
It is more than belief, it is obedience that makes you a disciple.
Come by obedience (abiding) - (Jn8:31-32)
Come by keeping commandments (Jn14:21, 23)
21 “He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”
Obedience in keeping His commands and it proves your love for Him and by doing such the Father will you! Displayed disclosed love!
Jn14:23
23 Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our abode with him.
Not only do we come in obedience and abide in Him, He will abide, abode with us!
Come by obedience (abiding) - (Jn8:31-32)
Come by keeping commandments (Jn14:21, 23)
Come and be perfected (1Jn2:3-5)
And in trying to finish this up, I know that may be alittle long, and I hope you have enough grace and mercy for me, just more point.
Come and be perfected.
3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him;
5 but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:
