a. Lets get ready to rumble---The seed promised
b. The First 48----The seed produced---birth of Seth as a replacement of righteous Abel....Jesus an Antitype of both---Abel & Seth
Biblical Timeline
Adam & Eve----Birth of Seth(great(6x) grandfather of Noah)----Noah father of(Ham, Japheth, and Shem)----Shem(Semitic People) (great-grandfather(8x) of Abram-----Abraham became the father of Isaac----Isaac became the father of Jacob----Jacob became the the father of 12 son who formulated the tribes of Israel.
1 Now these are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt with Jacob; they came each one with his household: 2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi and Judah; 3 Issachar, Zebulun and Benjamin; 4 Dan and Naphtali, Gad and Asher. 5 All the persons who came from the loins of Jacob were seventy in number, but Joseph was already in Egypt. 6 Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. 7 But the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled with them.
exodus 1:
-There is a reason the bible records genealogies they are telling a story. And the story is that God is not only to able to predict that through a man he would defeat Satan, he is also able to protect that Godly line from extinction through his divine protection.
“Catch me if you can?”
- “ Then the Pharisees went and plotted together how they might trap Him in what He said. 16 And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and defer to no one; for You are not partial to any.17 “Tell us then, what do You think? Is it lawful to give a poll-tax to Caesar, or not?” 18 But Jesus perceived their malice, and said, “Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites?
-But Satan is relentless he is not a quitter and he will not give up he will keep coming and that is what you see today in this powerful narrative about the protection of God.
a. Jesus was always one-step ahead of his enemies, this game of cat and mouse did not start in the New Testament. It started before the World began in heaven when Satan started an insurrection against God and his Kingdom.
7 But the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled with them. 8 Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph. 9 He said to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more and mightier than we. 10 “Come, let us deal wisely with them, or else they will multiply and in the event of war, they will also join themselves to those who hate us, and fight against us and depart from the land.” 11 So they appointed taskmasters over them to afflict them with hard labor. And they built for Pharaoh storage cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out, so that they were in dread of the sons of Israel. 13 The Egyptians compelled the sons of Israel to labor rigorously; 14 and they made their lives bitter with hard labor in mortar and bricks and at all kinds of labor in the field, all their labors which they rigorously imposed on them. 15 Then the king of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, one of whom was named Shiphrah and the other was named Puah; 16 and he said, “When you are helping the Hebrew women to give birth and see them upon the birthstool, if it is a son, then you shall put him to death; but if it is a daughter, then she shall live.” 17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live. 18 So the king of Egypt called for the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this thing, and let the boys live?” 19 The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife can get to them.” 20 So God was good to the midwives, and the people multiplied, and became very mighty. 21 Because the midwives feared God, He established households for them. 22 Then Pharaoh commanded all his people, saying, “Every son who is born you are to cast into the Nile, and every daughter you are to keep alive.”

I. The Problem(sub-plot)
I. The Problem-Exodus 1:7-9 “7 But the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled with them.8 Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph.9 He said to his people, “Behold, the people of the sons of Israel are more and mightier than we.10“Come, let us deal wisely with them, or else they will multiply and in the event of war, they will also join themselves to those who hate us, and fight against us and depart from the land.”

Context-Prior to this verse the Jews enjoy a corporate living situation with the Egyptians, they shared the land and all the resources, and it was like this because the Pharaoh had such a favorable relationship with Joseph. Joseph saved the whole nation from famine and great death by his God given wisdom. There was relational unity between these two nations, although they maintain their own religious practices. Then something happened in (v.8)
-Prior to this verse the Jews enjoy a corporate living situation with the Egyptians, they shared the land and all the resources, and this was like this because the Pharaoh had such a favorable relationship with Joseph. Joseph practically saved the whole nation from famine and great death by his God given wisdom. There was relational unity between these two great superpowers, although they maintain their own religious practices. Then something happened in v.8
-(v.8) “Now a new king arose over Egypt, who did not know Joseph” The narrators is trying to convey that a “new kind of king” has taken the throne. Which is to convey not a successor to the line of kings that were familiar with Joseph and the children of Israel.
1. Most commentators agree that the Egyptian Throne was taken by the “Hyksos” which were a different ethnicity than the Egyptian, as they did not have any feelings of favor towards the Jews. The Hyksos were a Semitic people that took the throne of Eygpt during the 16th and 15th dynasty of Eypgt. They were then forced out in 1532bc. The fact that they are Semitic tells us that the Children of Israel were enslaved by their own people.
6 Joseph died, and all his brothers and all that generation. 7 But the sons of Israel were fruitful and increased greatly, and multiplied, and became exceedingly mighty, so that the land was filled with them.
(v.6-7) When we read this verse we must remember that a large length of time existed between this verse. The population had probably ballooned to the millions that started at 70 when Joseph brothers arrived.
-This new King saw a fundamentally problem with this group of Jews.
-This new King saw a fundamentally problem with this group of Jews.
a. They were fruitful and increase greatly-This refers to their business exploits. During this time wealth was determined by land and cattle.
b. Their Birthrate was exploding-in so much that they filled the whole land (The Egyptian land was becoming a Jewish Land). When Joseph died there were 70 Israelites in the land, by the time they left there were about 600,000 men not counting the women and children. Most estimates have it around 2,000,000 people left during the Exodus)
(v.9-10) the Green Eyed Monster got a hold of this new Pharaoh. “Behold the people of the sons of Israel, are more and mightier than we.
(v.9) This king instilled fear based on a lie.
(v.10) “deal wisely” that word means “cunning”-We might say the King “was cutthroat or shady” The Pharaoh feared an alliance with the enemies of Egypt.
b. The Pharaoh feared an alliance with the enemies of Egypt.
-The Pharaoh’s Jealousy lead to a deep seated fear of the Jews, which lead to an ungodly system of slavery and subjugation, which finally lead to genocide.
Transition Statement-What was his program?

(v.11-12) The Pharaoh tried to work them to death and to afflict them with the weight of back breaking manual labor. Only something miraculous happened in (v.12) The more work they put on them the more children they had and their kingdom continue to expand……You must understand God’s promise to Abraham to understand this miraculous:

(v.15-16) The Pharaoh recruited two Hebrew women to help him instituted a mass murder campaign for the purpose of controlling their birthrate. He says I want you two ladies to kill the boys, but the leave the girls alive.
Question-This plan seems very stupid, and why?
Because in killing all the boys he was willing to kill his entire free labor workforce…..What does that tell you? That tells you that there was a greater purpose going on behind the scene that I don’t believe even the Pharaoh knew he was a part of…..He was being used as a vessel by someone….What started as population control, has gone to genocide.

(.v 15-16) Pharaoh Corners these two women, two women trusted with the birth of all the Hebrew boys, this is just like an Evil dictator to try and use someone close to their enemies to destroy their children. It takes an Evil mind to ask these women to help these tired mothers deliver the baby, then take the new baby boy and kill him.

a. Mid-wives were usually barren women. These two women were older and were most likely the senior leaders (mid-wives) they got out word to the other mid-wives of the plan concocted by Pharaoh.
17 But the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live.
Genesis
(v.17) “but the midwives feared God, and did not do as the king of Egypt had commanded them, but let the boys live” The midwives had to make a decision. They knew the ramification of this decision. This decision would most likely take their life. Anytime a group of slaves is given a command from the highest official of the land and doesn’t comply (especially a woman) then they are killed. What did these women do? They let the boys live….can you imagine the faith it would have taken? They had to lay aside their desire to live, for the purpose of something greater, and that was the preservation of the life of the Hebrew baby boys.

a. Sidenote: There is a biblical principle in this text. When man’s law meets God’s law God’s law wins. The only time a Christian is permitted to disobey God’s law is when man’s law directly contradicts what the Word of God says.
b. These women taught us it is better to fear God than man.
19 The midwives said to Pharaoh, “Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are vigorous and give birth before the midwife can get to them.”
(v.19) The midwives used great cunning and wisdom most likely warning the women what Pharaoh wanted them to do….The word says that the Hebrew women were more “Vigorous” this meant that they were physiologically stronger, than the pampered Egyptian women, and that they could have babies by themselves, without much help. This is what years of slavery does, it strengthens you.

(v.20-22) God continue to bless the obedience of the Jewish people and he gave those two obedient Mid-wives a blessing by giving them a family
(v.20-22) God continue to bless the obedience of the Jewish people and he gave those two obedient Mid-wives a blessing a gave them a family……
(v.22) Pharoah could have thrown the boys in the nile from the start, but he was using the Israelite women to kill their own children. This is probably because he knew that this plan might have gotten resistance from the people, so he started off by doing an incognito genocide program---Then he moved to a kingdom wide plan. He pulled out all stops
(v.22) “Every son who is born you are to cast into the Nile, and every daughter you are to keep alive” Without sons the bloodline of the children of Israel would ceased to exist, and there would no longer be a threat to not only the human ruler(Pharoah) but more importantly the Supernatural Ruler(Satan) throne.
Now how did Satan surmised that out of the Children of Israel would come a deliverer?
-Satan had been carefully watching God’s hand of mercy on Abraham, Issac, Then Jacob, and then to all of his twelve sons. At the bear minimum Satan probably assumed that the Deliver/Messiah would come out of these twelve tribes. He was right, but there is a another clue about this deliverer in

10 The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until he to whom it belongs shall come and the obedience of the nations shall be his.
(v.10) A scepter is what a king carried; as this prophecy describe a King that would descend from the tribe of Judah. It also says that this this Kingly line would remain until there would be a final king that would take that kingship of Israel from a regional kingdom to a worldwide dominion. Notice the text “and the obedience of the nations shall be his”
IV. The Preserver-Exodus 2:1-12 “Now a man from the house of Levi went and married a daughter of Levi.2 The woman conceived and bore a son; and when she saw that he was beautiful, she hid him for three months.3 But when she could hide him no longer, she got him a wicker basket and covered it over with tar and pitch. Then she put the child into it and set it among the reeds by the bank of the Nile.4 His sister stood at a distance to find out what would happen to him.5 The daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the Nile, with her maidens walking alongside the Nile; and she saw the basket among the reeds and sent her maid, and she brought it to her.6 When she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the boy was crying. And she had pity on him and said, “This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “Shall I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women that she may nurse the child for you?”8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Go ahead.” So the girl went and called the child’s mother.9 Then Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “Take this child away and nurse him for me and I will give you your wages.” So the woman took the child and nursed him.10 The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter and he became her son. And she named him Moses, and said, “Because I drew him out of the water.”11 Now it came about in those days, when Moses had grown up, that he went out to his brethren and looked on their hard labors; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of his brethren.12 So he looked this way and that, and when he saw there was no one around, he struck down the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.
Transition Statement-Satan made moves then God made some moves. Pharaoh said throw all the Male son into the nile, then a humble couple said we are not going to allow the Egyptians to throw their baby into the nile without some protection. We are going to seal him up.

(v.1-2) Moses parents were both from the Tribe of Levi. Before the Levitical priesthood is established God qualified Moses for the Job. Moses mother wanted to keep Moses, we know this because of the usage of the “beautiful” that actually means “to be fond of” sometimes our English words convey a bad meaning. She is not talking about his looks. She is talking about her attachment to him. He pleased her greatly. This move would have been gut-wrenching for her.

5 Now no shrub of the field was yet in the earth, and no plant of the field had yet sprouted, for the Lord God had not sent rain upon the earth, and there was no man to cultivate the ground. 6 But a mist used to rise from the earth and water the whole surface of the ground.

(v.7-10) Moses sister was quick on her feet, and suggested that she knew someone who could breastfeed the young boy…..Moses was breastfeed by his mother in his own house until he was about 3 or 4 when he would have been returned to the Pharaoh’s daughter and his Mother got paid for it. The Lord worked it out so that Moses mother got to raise him until he was weaned and she got paid for doing it. Only God can do something like that.

Application
Sub-Plots
1. The Hebrew women teach us that it is better to Fear God over man. God rewarded their faith giving them their own families
2. Satan uses affliction to destroy, but God uses affliction to Expand/Multiply and Grow his people.
3. God hears our prayers….The people prayers were answered by God sending his man “Moses”
Plot
1. Pharaoh was being used by Satan to do something far more sinister than just population control, or genocide…Satan was using Pharaoh to obliterate a whole race of people once again.
2. God allowed Satan to obliterate the offspring of the Jewish women, but he preserved the Life of young “Moses” Pharaoh’s Daughter pulled him out of the water and saved him, but several years later God pulled him through the Red Sea and saved not only him but all of the children of Israel.
3. Satan had plan, but God had a better plan. Once again God outfoxes Satan.
