Thank you is you're seeing if you take your wife on way to open up the Mark chapter 12?

Don't want people watching a Cheerio. We're across around some other do it is is like a necklace or honoring or something like this. Some people just simply like to be able to feel pulse in her pocket. What would carry that whichever walk around what we consider to be our big world looking at our big problems and wonder how are we going to be able to navigate this life? What's the real problem isn't that the world is so bigger or there are problems or insurmountable. Budget are Jesus is too small. Too often Jesus that we think about that we look up to what actually fit on that cross. That would we could carry in our pocket. If you want to look in your Bibles more chapter 12 and follow along as I read our passes today starting in verse 35.

Jesus began to say is he taught in the temple? How is it that the scribes say that the Christ is the son of David? David himself said in the Holy Spirit the Lord said to my Lord sit at my right hand until I put your enemies beneath your feet. David himself causing Ward so in what sense? Is he his son? Lawrence Crown enjoy the listening to him it was teaching he was saying Beware of the scribes who like to walk around along roads in like respectful greetings in the marketplace and chief seats in the synagogues and places of honor at Banquets. And for appearance sake offer long prayers. These will receive greater condemnation.

And you sit down opposite the treasury and began to observe how the people were putting money into the treasury and many rich people are putting in large sums. A poor Widow came and put in two small copper coins with your mouth to ascend. Calling his disciples to him. He said to them. Truly I say to you this poor Widow put in more than all the contributors into the treasury for they are out of their Surplus, but she out of her poverty put in all she owned all she had to live on.

Our passage today. Jesus is telling us that our expectations of the Christ. Star expectations of the Kingdom of Heaven are too small. We can become preoccupied with small benefits of being a Christian that we will completely miss the big word that God is doing in the world and in our lives.

I'm going to side with the canoe conundrum of the Christ being the son of David to get King David calling him his Lord and I asked how is it possible that David calls his son his Lord? Do we have a hierarchy within families? We have parents only have children and that parent-child relationship to last the entire life.

That child is always that parents child. No matter the age of the children are still expected to honor and obey their parents.

I want a relationship between parents and children change to the years going from an infant where that that little infant is in total dependence on his back up until where you have a adult relationship with your child.

We still see it and still recognize it and we still refer to it as a parent-child relationship. Religious leaders that we read about in our in our passage these past few weeks. Talk to the expected Messiah with his son of David.

Jesus doesn't disagree with this truth. He never says that the Messiah is not the son of me. How can the Messiah be both David son and David Lord? The two seem to pose each other till Jesus wants everyone listening everyone reading this to understand. What what Jesus wants us to grass. Is it our expectations for the Christ for the Messiah are way too small.

Send a religious leaders in the people that time they were wanted a son of David to set up another Earthly Kingdom like David's and make Israel. Great again.

but Jesus the Christ Trying to set up a kingdom greater and different than David and when God's enemies. to God

what about umg's

is he here just to make this physical life that we have right now a little more bearable.

Is he here just so that we can make it another day?

Or is your Jesus sheer? To give you life into eternity.

The first RTA Jesus turns from what describes say how they have. There were certain clothes escribe War. These clones set them apart and made them easily recognizable. However, overtime describes a change them slightly. They had altered these roads in the closed so that they stood out even more unlocks the people. And it helped for the help describes to Garner more attention, which is what they were after.

Describes was supposed to point people toward God not toward themselves.

scrubs ascribe's with off subsidiaries and in some studies that you can read show that there was that they were actually considered part of the poor class. something different

but they were considered by many to be part of the poor class. They don't look down on is being poor because of their profession as teachers of the law. It was acceptable for them to be for.

It was considered honorable poor. Extending Hospitality describes considered honorable as well as a means of getting a blessing. Don't even some rich families who would take a scribe and give them access to their financial assets is a sign of how wealthy that family was. And there were some families it would do somewhere that weren't quite as well for, you know, sort of the old version of keeping up with the Joneses.

They were abusive by the scribes.

They wanted to use up finances for my family became. poor don't actually go and live and it take from widows to the point of the widows actually would lose everything plus their house. Twice as he devoured widows homes.

when the family went to a party the place of honor was normally reserved for a scribe even about their family members are rich people are wealthy people or people in the port into the community the place of honor. Was reserved for the Scribe. It was expected to happen somewhere on the Scribe walked in and everybody would take their time to drink described as he walked through and up to in sat down in that place of honor making a public display of their honorable status.

The Jesus isn't saying a scribe should not be on there. Or is violence and their profession is not an honorable profession, but Jesus condemning the scribes seeking out on her of them selves. Escribe primary duty is to point people to God. To bring honor and glory to God. instead they begin to seek out honor and glory for themselves.

The pastor's religious leaders today have the same fight. I was talk with Megan the other week about the Army and chaplain since her husband is considering going into military. I was talking to her about what happens if they see things like this and I was telling her about my Chapel service that I ran at Fort Benning basic training days when we had a full Battalion cycle would have 700 people in my Surface. Some standing outside don't be because there wasn't 1%

I have to keep reminding myself. None of those soldiers came to my Chapel because of me. Every single soldier came because they were called by God to that service. Even here I have to remind myself.

It's not really this important up here. It's not how well I can craft a sermon on how well or how badly I presented likely. I have Mom here, but Sunday's to remind me. It's not about me.

Usually after Sunday service was things that she will tell me is if it was a good sermon I need to thank God. She doesn't do it. The one that is derogatory toward me but she doesn't remind me is not the messenger this. It's God. That is important.

When people see you.

can I see you as a good Christian Living a good life and talk about how good you are or do they see Christ through you?

So, how do we make sure we don't become like the scribes? How do we make sure our Jesus isn't small? They usually look at this next section. about the poor Widow breather teaching or preaching about stewardship using someone that message we're asking you to make sure you put in enough money in the offering plate cuz that's what God wants you to do. But you see if we focus on that part of that passage. We miss a big truths to God can share with us. Different points out. This woman wasn't only a widow but a poor Widow.

What else are symbolic of lowly forgotten groups of people and to say that she was poor also puts him in comparison to the scribes.

stripes

Widows tend to be poor class.

However, taking care of a scribe with singles something honorable. Whereas taking care of a widow was more of a obligation that we have.

Jesus said you are the treasure watching everyone who was putting money into the treasury to those around and watching him that Widow and their view is just physical happenstance that she showed up during this time.

But I think Jesus was actually there waiting for this poor Widow.

Do you know how many how many people I put money in before her but we do know at least some put in a large amounts of money maybe even house into the wild how much they were getting ready to put in these horns. So that everybody would know how much they gave to the temple.

The news four wheeler change to put her money in. It's a very meager amount. sort of like us reaching into our pocket pulling out of painting and dropping it into the offering plate as it goes by

No wonder why her emotions were she let go of those two precious coins that she had. was it drained of letting go of all she had financially slip out of her hands into The pot that had lots of money in it. Did you wonder why she would eat that evening did you wonder should have for the next day?

Well, I think part of what she felt was relief.

Roy Santos two small coins hit holding back her face I think is under two small coins slid out of her hand her face went up.

Jason said that she put in all she owned. Tell me the words she gave all she possessed to God.

To meet her needs and instead. She now felt that relieved and in that Sharon is in that fight in God to meet. delays, and she herself couldn't meet

say it isn't the amount that we put in the offering plate. What is the amount of time that we spend reading our Bibles at home or amount of time we spend going to church?

Christmas God is an all-or-nothing time. so you either we are all we're all out.

How much we give ourselves to God depends on how big we see Jesus? If our view of Jesus is small. Did Howard Hughes own the Jesus will always be small?

So what is your view of Jesus?

Is your Jesus Mall? Can you switch your Jesus in your pocket to carry him around pulling out and use it when you want? Or do you see Jesus is bigger than anything that exists in your life.

If we see Jesus is he really is. There isn't anything bigger. If we see Jesus is the Bible verse it seemed to us and we can easily understand how Paul was able to write this passage Romans 8 3839 for I am convinced that neither death nor life nor angels nor principalities nor things present nor death nor any other thing. Will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Our Lord. How big is Russia?

How small is your Jesus?

the spray Russell Henley father go out me realize that nothing. is greater than nothing exists, but that would you allow nothing can harm me but that what you and nothing can save me but that which you have already since your son on the cross.

Let me remember that each day. What I struggle with what I face is already been conquered by you. Allow me to let my Jesus grow to the size that he really is. In Christ's name I pray. amen

Are communion Hamilton him numb?
