So as we look at these 7 verses from Isaiah chapter 9 we are going to see in verses 1-3 some contrasts and these contrast are designed in such a way that they address the desperate situation the people of God find themselves in. So what we see is that God is telling them that one day there will be a great reversal all of the gloom, grief, darkness, troubles will all one day be overturned. Then in verse 4-6, we are told why this happens, so the cause of the reversal is revealed, and if you look at those verse, you will notice that each one begins with the word “for” and it is capped off with verse 6 and the birth of this child. “For to us a child is born, to us, a son is given, and the government shall be on his shoulders.” The child is the ground, and the basis for the reversal the climax of this passage focuses our attention on the Lord Jesus Christ. We see what he does in that he reigns and we see who he is through all of the title the prophet gives to him.
