What is our Mission?
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age
The New International Version.
(2011).
(Mt 28:18–20).
Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.
What does this mean to us?
We are to join God's mission to make more disciples in more populations
We are to share our faith, to share the Unchanging Gospel in a world that is always changing
What is the mission of the Covenant?
We are united by Christ in a holy covenant of churches empowered by the Holy Spirit to obey the great commandments and the great commission: to love God with all our heart, soul, strength, and mind, to love our neighbors as ourselves, and to go into all the world and make disciples.
The vision of this mission:
• to cultivate communities of worship committed to: prayer, preaching, and study of the word; the celebration of the sacraments; and fellowship across gender, race, age, culture, and class.
• to equip loving, giving, growing Christians to reach out with the good news of Jesus Christ – evangelizing the lost, ministering to those in need, and seeking justice for the oppressed.
What is the Kindgom?
Let me ask you this - I challenge you to really think about this, this week.
What is the Kingdom?
Where is it?
Let me ask you this: If God lived in our community, what would be different?
If Christ was your neighbour, would you act different?
What would you do different?
Hermanos, Hermanas, I have news for you - God DOES live in your neighbourhood!
He IS your neighbour.
He is alive and moving in and through each and every one of us - But do others know it?
Is Christ evident in our lifes?
Ok great - so we are to share the gospel...
But I'm not educated - I don't have seminary education
You just learned of ways you can increase your knowledge, but lets look at the disciples
v 6-8 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.
8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.
The New International Version.
(2011).
(Ac 1:6–8).
Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.
Even after 3 years of living with Jesus - they still didn't get it!
But Jesus reminds them that they can't do this on their own.
And neither can we - we are not supposed to!
v.4-5
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about.
5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
The New International Version.
(2011).
(Ac 1:4–5).
Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan.
That is the only requirement - to rely on the Holy Spirit,
We need the bible, the living word of God, we need the Holy spirit, and we need a living and growing relationship with Jesus Christ
