Joy should be part of our normal!

Luke 2:8 HCSB
In the same region, shepherds were staying out in the fields and keeping watch at night over their flock.
shepherd n. — a person whose occupation is tending, feeding, and guarding sheep in a pasture.
This job was a daily thing the sheep had to be watched especially at night when they were not in the pen or fold. These men spent their life in fields making sure some of the dumbest animals known to man were kept safe. They had a daily routine and in that routine there was an opportunity for Joy. Never let your routine dull you to the Joy that is available to you.

Lets Clear Something Up

I have a question. How many angels were there? And where were the Angels?
It started with one!
The angel stood before them. We have a picture of the angels being in the sky but if I read this correctly that is not the case..
Luke 2:9 HCSB
Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
Can you imagine standing there watching a sheep eating grass....minding your own business and suddenly there’s a guy standing there next to you. Poof one minute a sheep eating, the next minute a sheep eating and an Angel but not just an Angel… A glowing Angel at that and in fact the glow isn’t just relegated to his bubble…it’s around them all. The glory is shining around the entire hillside…Which brings us to the next point.

Our Greatest Joy can come from our Biggest Fear

Luke 2:9 HCSB
Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
That first roller coaster!
Do you remember when you rode your first roller coaster? (video)
I remember my first roller coaster, my first scary movie, the first time I stepped out into something that terrified me…the end result when facing these things usually was a feeling of complete and utter joy that rush of facing the thing that seemed so frightening, and coming out the other side better for it.

Joy should be shared!

Luke 2:10 HCSB
But the angel said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for look, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people:
All not some!

Happiness depends on how I feel, Joy depends on what He did!

Luke 2:11–14 HCSB
Today a Savior, who is Messiah the Lord, was born for you in the city of David. This will be the sign for you: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in cloth and lying in a feeding trough.” Suddenly there was a multitude of the heavenly host with the angel, praising God and saying: Glory to God in the highest heaven, and peace on earth to people He favors!
True joy comes from recognizing our need for a relationship with God and chasing after it…the only way that relationship could ever happen is if He stepped out of heaven and into our lives which is what this entire season is all about.

Will you chase Joy or will you be content with just being happy?

Luke 2:15 HCSB
When the angels had left them and returned to heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go straight to Bethlehem and see what has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”
The shepherds could have stayed on the hillside. So can you.

This Weeks Challenge!

Don’t be content with the happiness of Christmas, come off the mountain and invite someone to go and see the thing that God has done for you!
