Praise the Holy One

Luke 1:46–55 ESV
46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed; 49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name. 50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; 52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty. 54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
When was the last time you burst out in song with praise to the Lord?
For most of us, this is not normal. We may read a Psalm of praise, we may pray using one of the Psalms, or give praise to the Lord for something He has done.
What made Mary just burst out in song?
Look back at the previous verse and we see why
Luke 1:39–45 ESV
39 In those days Mary arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in Judah, 40 and she entered the house of Zechariah and greeted Elizabeth. 41 And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, 42 and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! 43 And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? 44 For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. 45 And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
Luke 1:39
See something beautiful.
Luke 1:15 ESV
for he will be great before the Lord. And he must not drink wine or strong drink, and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.
Luke 1:
We see two cousins greeting each other with love.
I think we see John excited knowing Jesus is there.
Though they are not fully developed at this point, we see life taking place.
Jesus as an embreyo. We must remember that He grew as any other baby. Sometimes I think we forget this as the Man of God.
BUT!! We see a greater.
God the Holy Spirit communed with God the Son.
Once this took place sparks went off in Mary!!
Mary believed all that the Lord spoke to her and He showed confirmation through Elizabeth with John jumping in the womb.
Let’s look at Mary’s song
Luke 1:46-
Luke 1:46–48 ESV
46 And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, 47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, 48 for he has looked on the humble estate of his servant. For behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed;
Mary begins this song with total adoration to the Lord!
Share the adoption part of us meeting the girls for the first time.
When the Lord does things through you that can only be done by Him, we have to rejoice in the Lord. Praise Him for all that He does.
Luke 1:49 ESV
49 for he who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
Mary was not someone of significanance or importantance. Billions of women born and will be born and the Lord chose her to bear the Christ child.
A woman of no know worth, would have been looked down upon because of her pregnancy.
Living in a town that was forgotten (Nazareth) because at the time it was controlled by Palestine. (Their enemy)
Yet the Lord found favor in her.
The Lord led Joseph to take Mary as his wife. To help Mary hold herself high, knowing people would shame her.
Yet she acknowledges all that the Lord has done and gives praise.
Church do we give God praise and glory in situations that are hard?
Yet she acknowledges all that the Lord has done and gives praise.
Praise through times that we don’t understand?
As we continue we see something beautiful between a mother and her son.
Jesus takes His mothers song and turns it into a life lesson on the kingdom of
Verses 50-53 remind us of the sermon Jesus himself preaches 30 years later.
Luke 1:50–53 ESV
50 And his mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. 51 He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts; 52 he has brought down the mighty from their thrones and exalted those of humble estate; 53 he has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away empty.
Luke 6:20–24 ESV
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 “Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied. “Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh. 22 “Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man! 23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets. 24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
Luke 6:20-
30 years later, Jesus uses the song of His mother to proclaim the kingdom of heaven. And is one of the most known sermons today.
There is power when everything about you is lined up with the Lord.
Mary’s believe in what was promised.
Luke 1:54–55 ESV
54 He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, 55 as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his offspring forever.”
Luke
Here we see Mary proclaiming the promise that was given to the early fathers and Abraham many years earlier.
Mary was able to proclaim salvation because she knew that the promise was true, because she was carrying it.
Mary would see the promised salvation come to pass in her arms as a baby and see it on the cross as He died.
I think of Mary of all the things that was told to her, that she would go through, that she had to take in and hold to herself, and then to see the pain and yet joy as Jesus hung on the cross.
Church, are you able to praise the One that holds all things?
Are you able to praise the One no matter the circumstance?
Are you able to praise the One this Christmas season for all that He has done?
