Hebrews 9:1-15

Intro

We pick up in Ch 9 today in our study of Hebrews. It’s always good to review briefly where we have come from.

So who is our audience? 1st century jewish belivers

What is the main theme? Jesus is better.

Better than what? Angels, Moses, better HP, Better sacrifice, better covenant.

We left off last time in Chapter 8 talking about the new Covenant and comparing it to the old.

The main difference being the old was based on our keeping our end, our faithfulness. The new is based on Gods faithfulness.

It’s not what we do its what He has done.

Secondly, we mentioned last week that the New Covenant is “internal” whereas the old was external. Big Difference!

Finally we read that every thing in the old tabernacle was to be made exactly as prescribed. Because every thing in the earthly was a picture of the real in heaven.

Then indeed, even the first covenant had ordinances of divine service and the earthly sanctuary. For a tabernacle was prepared: the first part, in which was the lampstand, the table, and the showbread, which is called the sanctuary; and behind the second veil, the part of the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of All, which had the golden censer and the ark of the covenant overlaid on all sides with gold, in which were the golden pot that had the manna, Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tablets of the covenant; and above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.

For a tabernacle was prepared: The tabernacle was a tent 45 feet (15 meters) long, 15 feet (5 meters) wide, and 15 feet (5 meters) high, divided into two rooms. The larger room (the first part) was a 15 feet (5 meter) by 30 feet (10 meter) room called the “holy place.” Behind the second veilwas a smaller room 15 feet (5 meter) by 15 feet (5 meter), and this room was called the Holiest of All.
