When compared to the Planets and the stars - we are really insignificant.
When compared to oceans and seas - we again are really insignificant.
Even on land, when we consider the great continents - we are really insingificant.
I mean, maybe if we consider all of humanity, we might rank big enough to a be a few ants around an ant hill.
But again, compared the majestic vastness of creation - we are really nothing.
David put it this way -
Psalm 144:3–4 ESV
O Lord, what is man that you regard him, or the son of man that you think of him? Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow.
Ps 144
And then in ,
we read these words.
we read these words.
Isaia
Isaiah 9:6–7 ESV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.
Isaiah 9:6 ESV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
A. The Incarnation of the Divine Son of Man.
For unto us a Child is Born, to us a son is given.
“For unto us a Child is Born” shouldn’t surprise us.
Baby’s are born everyday.
It is not to say that every baby conceived is not precious and sacred.
But simply it is a common and everyday occurrence.
I look at a room full of people who were all baby’s in their mother’s arms at one time.
That is not what is remarkable about this verse.
What is remarkable is that “a son is given”!
Because of context and this statement - the baby that is born is not simply human, but divine.
The “son of man” has long been a name for the Divine savior and messiah.
So this child that is born will be both -
Human and God.
Colossians 2:9 ESV
For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily,
The creator of the World,
was promised to be born into an insignificant human.
Now,
there is much that can be said about Christ being fully human and being fully God.
But let’s stay focus on the Birth.
Our God so loved the W
B. His Character.
