In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
Christmas
Why are we here?
To celebrate Jesus being born.
Why celebrate his birth?
Because He is the light of the World.
Why does this group get together every week?
To celebrate Jesus being born, dying for us, saving us and living for Him.
Beginning: God and Jesus creating
Life.
True life from Jesus.
Peace, joy, goodness.
Light against Darkness.
Life V death
Makes, comes, saves, fights, wins.
To understand who Jesus is, we need to go back to the beginning.
Once we get all the way back there we find God.
And God then makes everything.
Here it tells us that Jesus was the one creating.
We also find life.
But, where do we find it?
With Jesus.
Not just any life.
Not just some random existence like a plant or some meaningless, worthless life like a robot.
No, it is goodness.
It is hope and love and joy.
This life is peace.
This life that Jesus has is Light.
This life fights against evil: darkness.
It doesn’t just fight against the darkness though, it defeats it.
Jesus makes everything, gives everything life and when evil comes onto the scene we don’t see Jesus give up and walk away.
He fights and he wins.
How does that apply to today?
How does it apply to you and me in this room?
Jesus’ birthday starts the Battle.
(Christmas: light of the world, peace on earth, etc.
This is people realizing, hey we need some help and here it is)
Lives perfectly.
Shining brightly.
Showing us that life with God is better than death in the world.
Then, he does the unthinkable: he dies.
Life, dies.
Death overtakes us.
But, he defeats it.
When Jesus died, his light was not smothered.
In fact, by dying for us he made a way for us to have that light.
(Paul writing to Christians) - for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord.
Walk as children of light
That is why you are here.
Because you can feel that light is good.
Ok, so, Jesus came.
He died.
He came back to life and now I don’t have to be in darkness and go to hell.
I have a path to heaven, a path to be in the family of God if I believe all of this.
But, why are we doing this today?
First, because when you love someone you celebrate with them.
You celebrate them.

Secondly, because this is such good news we have to do something about it.
It is so good, it takes control of us!
He has won the fight!
We don’t have to be sad!
lonely, angry, afraid, empty.
He has overcome the darkness!
Thirdly, when we get together, focus on Jesus, read the bible, pray, celebrate God, chase God, then he changes us.
He makes us more like him.
I want that.
Fourthly, because we love other people.
We want other people to know Jesus.
We want them to be in God’s family.
We don’t want them to go to hell.
So, every chance we get, we bring people where they can learn about what the Light of the World has done for them: He has given them a way to get forgiveness.

And the goal of the Bible and the goal of God in becoming human and the goal of this gospel of John are all the same.

John 20:31, “These things are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in his name.”
So be of good cheer.
Christ has overcome the world of darkness ().
“Believe in the light that you may become sons of the light” ().
Take the offensive this season.
Raid the darkness.
It cannot overcome the children of light.-
