There are times when I head to bed after my wife. Since I don’t want to disturb her by turining on the light, I’ve gotten pretty good at finding my way in the darkness.
After a while, you know where things are and kind put your hands out and find your way around.
A few years back we had a dog which I also had to advoid. Since the dog had a cusion she slept on, I had a pretty good idea of where the dog was too.
However, there were times when the dog wouldn’t be on the cusion. There would be times when items would be moved, or there would be something on the floor.
Now, if i turned on the lights, none of these things would be an issue. But, I didn’t turn the lights on. I knew i could find my way in the dark.
I was wrong.
I’d bump into things. I’d knock things down. A few times I stepped on the dog! Finding my way in the dark was not as easy as I thought. Find my way in the dark was wrought with dangers…dangers I never saw coming.
John tells us that Jesus was the light. He was the light coming into a world of darkness. His light shined and the darkness wasn’t able to overcome it.
Without Jesus, this world remains in darkness. Without Jesus, our lives remain in darkness. We can choose to grope around, hoping for the best, but the light of the world has come! The one who can light our way has entered into our neighborhood.
We don’t have to grope. We don’t have to hope. We can live wiht the light of the world.
