True Story_pt4: A Child Is Born
True Story_pt4: A Child Is Born
But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,
4 centuries of silence – “400 Years of Silence”
God’s people were in exile to Rome – Roman rule.
Greek ruler setup an altar to Zeus in the temple, also sacrificed a PIG on the alter of the temple!
Legalism had taken over – Righteousness was “following the letter of the law”
Religious experts added to religious tradition
God’s people were awaiting the Messiah!
EXPECTATION!
Roman road system
Peace and order, made for safe travel
Common Greek language
It was TIME!
In those days Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world.
(This was the first census that took place while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
And everyone went to their own town to register.
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.
He went there to register with Mary, who was pledged to be married to him and was expecting a child.
While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born,
and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.
And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night.
An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.
But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.”
So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger.
When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child,
and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.
But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.
The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told.
You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus.
He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David,
and he will reign over Jacob’s descendants forever; his kingdom will never end.”
Luke 1:31
1. Virgin birth = Born of God.
1. Virgin birth = Born of God.
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?”
The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God.
This made Him [Born of God] – outside the rule of Satan.
He did not come from the line of Adam, but from God Himself.
This is why we say we are “born again”… born from “above”… born from God the Father!
[FOR ME?] - SIN IS BROKEN!
Luke 1:34-
This is how God won back His people.
He is sovereign, so He could have “fixed” it, but that would have gone against His Word.
Instead, He became a man
Born into Creation, the same as you and I...
23 chromosomes from Father (God), 23 chromosomes from mother.... forming flesh...
3 decades later, this flesh to be torn - for all flesh!
He walked in man’s shoes, was tempted and suffered as a man, then dies to pay man’s penalty for sin.
God paid the price Himself!
2. Born in a manger = First born lamb.

Why cloth and a manger? Seems to point it out…
This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
Why these seemingly random shepherds?
Because of where Josheph and Mary were!
No ordinary stable, Migdal Eder (Tower of the Flocks, prophet Michah)

Here sacrificial lambs were raised for the temple in Jerusalem.
Here sacrificial lambs were raised for the temple in Jerusalem.
The firstborn, without spot of blemish.
Why a manger? What is a manger? – a dirty feeding trough
The angel told these shepherds, “this will be a sign to you.”
[YOU SEE] - When these shepherds had a sheep that was giving birth, they would examine that lamb for any spot or blemish.
The ones they certified as sacrificial, they would “wrap in swaddling cloth and place it in a manger for protection.”
When these shepherds saw this, they knew exactly what they were looking at!
This signified that Jesus was the [First born lamb]
[FOR ME?] - THE PERFECT SACRIFICE!
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
He was known as the Lamb because they would sacrifice lambs to atone for their sins – the Lambs blood would wash away sin.
But why a lamb? Why did lambs blood wash away sin in OT?
The lamb has always been the foreshadow of Christ
The price was man’s blood, but ours couldn’t pay the price.
Only the blood of a righteous man, un-spotted, without blemish.
It was always Christ. The “lamb” was just a foreshadow.
3. The King has come = We are saved!

“The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.
The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the king of Israel!”
The next day the great crowd that had come for the festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
More than earthly king, but eternal!
[FOR ME?] – [We are saved!]
Take Away
Take Away
1 John
This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.
This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
