Introduction
Central Truth : The identity of the little Babe in Bethlehem brings hope to us today.
Introduction
The Majesty and the glory of the Christmas story.
Perhaps no other story in the Bible speaks with such clarity about the power and the purpose of God.
Just the fact that God stepped out of eternity into time is almost mind-boggling.
I read of the shepherds, lowly and undeserving, yet called just the same. I read of the angels amazed that the Creator was born in the image of the creature. I read of the wise men and I rejoice that these pagans traveled so far and came to know the Lord Jesus Christ. I read of the manger and I am reminded that Jesus laid aside certain benefits of His deity that He might become a man and die for sinners. I read all these things, and it is more than my mind can grasp.

I read of the manger and I am reminded that Jesus laid aside certain benefits of His deity that He might become a man and die for sinners. I read all these things, and it is more than my mind can grasp. Then, I am called back to the words of the angel who visited the shepherds on that Judean hillside that night. In the angel’s words, we find the true glory of Christmas. Because, no matter what else we may make of it, Christmas will always be about the Baby born in Bethlehem. Today, I want to take a look at the three-fold ministry of Bethlehem’s Baby. Notice what the angel had to say about who this Baby was.BodySAVIOR – THE TITLE OF ACCEPTANCEThis child’s mission wasn’t to save the wealthy, or the righteous. He came to set the sinner free - “the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost” He came for those no one else wanted - “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance”As Savior, Jesus provided 3 essential services to the sinner:We are Accepted in Him - “He has made us accepted in the Beloved”We are Delivered in Him – Delivered from sin’s penalty, power and presence. - “He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love”We are Preserved in Him – Those whom Jesus saves are forever saved – - “who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation”Thank God, He came not as Judge, but as Savior – - “For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved”CHRIST – THE TITLE OF ACCESSThis child came to do more than provide simple salvation. He came to allow us access into the very presence of Almighty God.Through Jesus, we can:Approach the Father - “Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need” Jesus is the only means of access - “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus”Appeal to the Father - “Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you”The Name "Christ" refers to Jesus as the "Anointed High Priest." In this ministry, He addresses the father on our behalf. He does this in two ways:He talks to the Father on our behalf - “He [Christ] always lives to make intercession for them”He pleads our case before the throne of God - “we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous”LORD – THE TITLE OF AUTHORITYWhen the angel called Jesus Lord, He was referring to One who was to be in absolute control. This title of our Lord is a reminder to every Christian that Jesus Christ is to be the absolute authority in our lives. We are to allow Him the Headship in every area of our beings. - “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”God’s demand for total obedience is not too much to ask. He knows that true love is always shown by obedience to Him.ConclusionIt’s Christmas time! As such, we need to remember that the reason we are even here today is because of a little infant born into this world 2,000 years ago. That infant was no ordinary baby. As Savior, He is worthy of our worship. As Christ, He is worthy of our dependence. As Lord, He is worthy of our obedience. As Jesus, He is worthy of all we can give to Him. Have you given Jesus your all this Christmas?
Then, I am called back to the words of the angel who visited the shepherds on that Judean hillside that night.
In the angel’s words, we find the true glory of Christmas. Because, no matter what else we may make of it, Christmas will always be about the Baby born in Bethlehem.
Today, I want to take a look at the three-fold ministry of Bethlehem’s Baby who came to bring REAL DELIVERANCE to us all.
Notice what the angel had to say about who this Baby was.
Body

1. Real Deliverance comes because Jesus is SAVIOR THE TITLE OF ACCEPTANCE

This child’s mission wasn’t to save the wealthy, or the righteous or those who thought they were already worthy.

a. He came to set the sinner free.

Luke 19:10 NASB95
“For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

b. He came for those no one else wanted

Mark 2:17 NASB95
And hearing this, Jesus said to them, “It is not those who are healthy who need a physician, but those who are sick; I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”
- “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance”
As Savior, Jesus provided 3 essential services to the sinner:

1. We are Accepted in Him

Ephesians 1:6 NASB95
to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
John 1:12 NASB95
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

2. We are Delivered by Him from Sin’s penalty, power and presence.

Colossians 1:13 NASB95
For He rescued us from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son,

3. We are Preserved in Him

1 Peter 1:5 NASB95
who are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
Thank God, He came not as Judge, but as Savior
John 3:17 NASB95
“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.

2. Real Deliverance comes through the fact that Jesus is the Christ - The Title of Access

This child came to do more than provide simple salvation.
He came to allow us access into the very presence of Almighty God.
Through Jesus, we can:

a. Approach the Father

Hebrews 4:16 NASB95
Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Jesus is only means of access
1 Timothy 2:5 NASB95
For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,
1 Timothy 2:5

b. Appeal to the Father

John 16:23 NASB95
“In that day you will not question Me about anything. Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask the Father for anything in My name, He will give it to you.
The name “Christ” refers to Jesus as the “Anointed High Priest.”
In this ministry He works in two ways:
1. He talks to the Father on our behalf
Hebrews 7:25
Hebrews 7:25 NASB95
Therefore He is able also to save forever those who draw near to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.
2. He pleads our case before the throne of God
1 John 2:1 NASB95
My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

Real Deliverance comes because Jesus is LORD – THE TITLE OF AUTHORITY

When the angel called Jesus Lord, He was referring to One who was to be in absolute control.
This title of our Lord is a reminder to every Christian that Jesus Christ is to be the absolute authority in our lives.

We are to allow Him the Headship in every area of our beings.

Romans 12:1–2 NASB95
Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

God’s demand for total obedience is not too much to ask.
