TEXT
"And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified." (Hebrews 10:11-14 KJV)
"Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; And having an high priest over the house of God; Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:" (Hebrews 10:19-24 KJV)
BODY
We have heard the expression “For once and for all…usually in exasperation for a situation that we find ourselves repeatedly in…The text refers to the fact that the Old Testament priests had to continually offer sacrifices, since the debt was never fully paid. There were also no seats there, as the work was never fully done. Yet we read where Jesus paid the debt, and took His seat next to the Throne, where He remains until the time comes to gather us to Him…
“I hear the Savior say
Thy strength indeed is small
Child of weakness, watch and pray
Find in Me thine all in all”
“…for ONCE…” – Jesus paid only ONE time…to take away the sins of an entire world forever.
“..and for ALL” – Jesus paid for ALL people As we strive to transform into the “Whosoever” church…it behooves us to remember that He paid for “Whosoever”.
NO exaltation, denigration, glorification or marginalization for ANY of us…Jesus paid it all…Have we any right to segregate or isolate or humiliate… NO!! We are all equal in Him! As the children’s song says:
“Red and Yellow, Black and White…
ALL are precious in His sight…”
I used to say that I believed that children are humanity in its most perfect form…we have to LEARN how to be meanspirited, catty, nasty, predjudiced…whether it is ethnicity or even socio-economically.
You’ve GOT to be taught
Before it’s too late
Before you are six, or seven, or eight
To hate all the people your relatives hate
You’ve GOT to be carefully taught…
Maybe we need to remember that we are children…That’s why Jesus, in talking about the children said to “Suffer the little children to come unto Me and forbid them not…for such ARE the Kingdom of Heaven. How are we doing today…could WE be mistaken for loving, innocent children? Could WE be mistaken for the Kingdom of Heaven?
God wants us to send a healthy glow out to the world around us…and to the heavenlies. We ARE after all, “the imitators of Jesus…”The Light of The World”. But before we can “glow up”, we have to “show up”, so that we can “grow up” in being Christlike. Indeed, some of us may find that we have to “grow up” so that we can even “show up”. Are you harboring resentment toward someone else in the Body of Christ? Maybe they said something, did something that “rubbed you the wrong way” and instead of going to them, you just refused to have anything to do with them…including sharing the joy of our worship experience?
Lord now indeed I find
Thy power and power alone
Can change the leper’s spots
And melt the heart of stone
We need Jesus to help us melt our “hearts of stone”…and that means seeing each other in the best possible light…The song from the show “Fame” gives us a clue…
“Baby, look at me…
And tell me what you see…
You ain’t seen the best of me yet…
Give me time…I’ll make you forget the rest…
What do you see when you look at me? Maybe you see a short, fat, balding black man? Look a little closer…Maybe you see a Child of the Most High God… Look a little closer…Well, let me help you a little here…the only thing you need to see when you look at me are the words “PAID… IN…FULL”
Jesus paid it all
All to Him I owe
Sin had left a crimson stain
He washed it white as snow
It can be oh so easy to get downcast and depressed about what all is happening around us and in our lives…
You are my strength when I am weak
You are the treasure that I seek
You are my all in all
Seeking you as a precious jewel
Lord to give up I’d be a fool
You are my all in all
Jesus, Lamb of God
Worthy is Your Name
Taking MY sin, MY cross MY shame
Rising again I bless Your Name
You are my all in all
Maybe there’s someone here that is looking for that “precious jewel”…but you’re oh so tired…you ve thought of giving up…but don’t give up…Come to Jesus…let HIM pay it ALL…ONCE and for ALL…Let Him be all the world to you…Praise God…He IS all the world to ME..
Sing “Christ Is All”
Let us pray…
