INTRO:

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM) is the American Psychiatric Association's standard reference for psychiatry. It includes over 450 different definitions of mental disorders.[1] The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) published by the World Health Organization (WHO) is the international standard system for classifying all medical diseases.[2] It also includes a section on mental and behavioral disorders.

On the list are these disorders:

Fregoli Delusion. People with this disorder are irrationally convinced (or are they?) that strangers have taken the place of their friends and family members and are wearing cunning disguises
Stendhal Syndrome is a condition where in the presence of fine art or otherwise emotionally powerful surroundings you exhibit a racing pulse, fainting, and hallucinations.
Paris syndrome is the oddest of the lot, if only because it exclusively affects Japanese people who visit Paris as tourists. It seems to be triggered by the gigantic letdown of the real-world Paris, as opposed to that of their idealized expectations. Paris syndrome usually involves some kind of emotional breakdown or even acute psychosis. It’s a big enough issue that the Japanese embassy actually maintains a hotline for sufferers.

Reasons for disorders:

Circadian Rhythm Disturbance
Poor Nutrition
Physical Health Problems
Drugs
Stressful Life Events
Grief and Loss
The problem we have is that we live in a world where if you were born, there is a significant chance that there is something wrong with you. Brain Chemistry is so complex that there are very few “tests” that can definitively determine a mental disorder. Hormones are simply crazy and can be affected by anything. If you eat the right foods you might be fine but what is right for one person might not be right for the next. If you don't exercise you might get develop a mental problem, But if you exercise too much you might develop a mental problem. And how does one define what is too much or too little. Drugs help. Drugs hurt. Stress which is anything from the red light when your late to major factors such as moving, marriage, death, dirty forks and being in environments when things are too clean. And living in a world where loss really is inevitable.

A new study done by the Journal of Abnormal Psychology shows that 80% of the people followed develop a mental disorder every year.

Heres the truth… if your alive you probably have a diagnosable mental disorder. Or to put it simply, your all crazy. And, if you are not, you will be.

EXP:

We just finished a series on the Fruit of the Spirit. One of the things that we should have learned is that part of our part in developing these fruit if to try to force our minds to think the way it should. The question becomes, “How?” With all the stuff that is REALLY going on in our life, how can we take every thought captive. How can I protect my heart and my mind when “XYZ” is coming at me so fast I can't catch a breath.
New Series surrounding our thought life. In Philippians we are given a couple verses that will help us tremendously.
Philippians 4:8–9 NIV
Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.

And just like with the Fruit in want to slow down and take this list apart. You can read the verse in just a few seconds but it is packed so tightly that we should unpack it slowly to apply it to our hearts and minds.
Today we start with “Whatever is true”

The Goal.

Philippians 4:4–7 NIV

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

What It Is

Definition:

Relativism

The prevailing argument today is the everything is relative. And for some thing that is true.
Relative is the idea that truth is determined by culture, belief of position.
True if you are talking about things like temperature, distance, and size.

But it is not true that everything is relative
There are no square circles and no circular squares.
2 plus 2 is 4 and if I believe it is 6, I fail the test because I’m wrong.
The statement of “truth is relative” is completely illogical because it is stated as if its a truth which if it is a truth becomes the only truth— which is relative so it doesn’t matter.
"Truth is relative." Again, this is an absolute statement implying truth is absolutely relative. Besides positing an absolute, suppose the statement was true and "truth is relative." Everything including that statement would be relative. If a statement is relative, it is not always true. If "truth is relative" is not always true, sometimes truth is not relative. This means there are absolutes, which means the above statement is false. When you follow the logic, relativist arguments will always contradict themselves.

Humanism:
Humanist John Dewey (1859-1952), co-author and signer of the Humanist Manifesto 1 (1933), declared, "There is no God and there is no soul. Hence, there are no needs for the props of traditional religion. With dogma and creed excluded, then immutable truth is also dead and buried. There is no room for fixed, natural law or moral absolutes." Humanists believe one should do, as one feels is right.
There is no right or wrong - well that is except for that statement.

How Biblical Truth Protects You.

We seem to live in a world or great struggle and trial. Troubles come and go. Some are incredibly severe. When you can’t find peace. When you can’t find joy what do you do. You have to turn to the truth.
RAISING OF LAZARUS… I AM THE WAY THE TRUTH AND THE LIFE.
