What were you thinking??
Luke 1:26
When reading the story of Jesus’ birth we so often think of a young teenage girl named Mary finding herself in a bit of a predicament.
We even think of Joseph and what he must have been thinking and the faith and courage he had to continue with the marriage.
And sometimes we think of this baby, this literal flesh and bone baby as full grown Savior of the world Jesus.
Son of God.
That line of thinking alone is enough to stop and praise God for creating a way for us to be reconciled to Him.
But sometimes I think we overlook some details of the Messiah’s birth because there is so much to be amazed by.
I can’t help but take some of Mary’s words in to mean she knew something.
Certainly not all the details but I kept help but imagine that she knew that her son was not an ordinary child and his life would not be ordinary.
I imagine the excitement and exhilaration she would have dreaming of the what this life would do for others.
But I also wonder if she ever thought about the prophet Simeon’s words “and a sword will pierce your own soul too.”
We are not given any insight into how these statements affected Mary.
Which is probably purposeful.
We always sing the words Mary did you know..your baby boy would someday .....save the world, walk on water.
Mary did you know the world needed your son to save us??
But I wonder, Mary did you know what you would go through as a mother?
