Out of the the Crib...

v1-6 - Sound the trumpet - Freedom is here!

Did you know this passage is all about Jesus!

And it tells some really cool stuff about Jesus.
This is what was promised about Jesus 800 years before he was born.
Jesus uses this passage when he begins his own ministry.
This passage compares what Jesus came to do and be with the what they used to call the Year of the Lords Favour. Jesus came v2
Isaiah 61:2 NIV - Anglicised
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
They also used another name for the Day of the Lord’s Favour
It was called the year of Jubilee.
And who knows what Jubilee really origionally means.
I bet none of you know!
ASK AROUND.
It means ‘Ram’s horn’ - and male sheeps horn!
It’s the year of the Ram’s Horn! Whoo hoo!
I’ve got you all a Ram’s horn.
Out of the crib comes the Ram’s horns.
BLOW
Jesus coming at Christmas was like the ram’s horn being blown for the year of Jubilee.
And the year of Jubilee was a year when slaves were set free, debts were cancelled.
It was a great year.
But Jesus does even more,
Isaiah 61:1–2 NIV - Anglicised
The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn,
He comforts those who need comforting.
Christmas should be a great celebration.
It’s like hearing the ram’s horn blowing
BLOW
to announce the good news of forgiveness of sins, life eternal with God,
Jesus is here.
Christmas is great.
BLOW
Celebrate - Jesus has come to bring good news.
.

v7-11 - Clothes of Salvation - rejoice!

Now, the first thing that came out the crib was a horn.
There is one more thing in here.
But first we have to put something in.
Did you hear what Jesus will do for those that are his people.
Isaiah 61:7 NIV - Anglicised
Instead of their shame my people will receive a double portion, and instead of disgrace they will rejoice in their inheritance; and so they will inherit a double portion in their land, and everlasting joy will be theirs.
Instead of shame and disgrace.
That’s what your bin bags are for.
They remind us that we have not always loved and followed Jesus.
We have shame and disgrace.
But Jesus came at Christmas remeber to declare the jubilee.
BLOW
To free us to bring good news.
So, take of your shame and disgrace and put it on Jesus in the crib.
JEsus died on the cross to take all that away - it no longer belongs to us.
And instead, did you hear what we get from the crib, from Jesus?
Isaiah 61:10 NIV - Anglicised
I delight greatly in the Lord; my soul rejoices in my God. For he has clothed me with garments of salvation and arrayed me in a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom adorns his head like a priest, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
isa 61 10
Garments or clothes of salvation and robes of righteousness!
Clothes meaning we are saved and robes that remind us we are not right in God’s eyes!
Wow, that’s pretty amazing.
So, out of the crib comes the horn of good news.
Into the crib goes shame and disgrace.
And out comes clothes of salvation.
SO, come up and get your robe of righteousness and blow those horns until we’re done!
Jesus - The Year of Jubilee
The Ram’s horn
