c. Priests & Scribes
1. Tell the story
4 and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born.

6 “ ‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers of Judah; for from you shall come a ruler who will shepherd my people Israel.’ ”
Matt 2:4-6
2. Herod asked them about the biblical prophecies regarding the king.
i. They told him what the Bible says; they answered a research question, but were otherwise uninterested.
d. Herod
3 When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him;
1. Troubled: great distress, throw in2 confusion
i. Herod, & yes all Jerusalem was upset & confused!
-What do u mean there’s a new king born?
-We have a king: the emperor; & Herod under him…What’s going on!!??
ii. Upon hearing the good news that Jesus is Lord & Savior people can react similarly
-What do u mean that your way is the only way to God
-How can u b sure that what ur bible says is true
-born o a virgin? that’s ridiculous!
-I’m a sinner; what does that even mean? What right do u / even God have to tell me I’m wrong?!
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, became furious, and he sent and killed all the male children in Bethlehem and in all that region who were two years old or under, according to the time that he had ascertained from the wise men.
