Q. How should we worship God’s Lamb tonight?
3 takeaways & then table. Bow, bless, behold.

I. (See His Humility): Come and Bow

First, let’s see His humility.
Lowliness may inconvenience us; false modesty may annoy us; but if we stop to see the humility of Jesus Christ, it will change us.
From all eternity past, He has been God the Son. Jesus says in that He existed in God’s glory before anything was created.
But look here at the humility of Jesus in :
From all eternity past, He has been God the Son, the Word by whom all things were made according to . Jesus says in that He existed in God’s glory before anything was created.
Hebrews 1:2 ESV
but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.
Hebrews 1:3 ESV
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Hebrews 1:3a ESV
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,
Though He was in the form of God, He did not count equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, a human being.
Though He was in the form of God, He did not count equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, a human being.
John 1:14 ESV
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
The humility of Jesus is matchless. The Almighty and Eternal One took on the fragility of human flesh. The Holy One made His dwelling among sinners. There has never been such a deficit between what was deserved and what was taken. By Him, the stars were created, but His eternal glory outshone them all, and He hid it under the veil of true humanity. He is the Word by whom all things were made, but He entered His world with the wordless cries of a baby. He was seated with His Father in heaven, but He took up residence among us in a bed of hay in a manger.
Why did the Son take on flesh? Why did He humble Himself in this way?
Imagine
To bring you back to God.
says that He humbled himself “by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
The world has never minded the lowly, as long as they kept to their place. Humility that does not disrupt our revelry is pleasant enough. But the humility of Jesus is not that of
Jesus came to fulfill all of God’s promises, to rescue you and me from the wrath our sins deserve, by suffering in our place.
1 Peter 3:18 ESV
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit,
1 Peter 3:18–19 ESV
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison,
In love for us, before time began, God had already decided to rescue us by His own precious gift, to leave His throne for a manger, and then a cross and a tomb.
This evening, how should we respond when we see His humility? We should bow. Like the wise men, who fell down to worship at the manger, like the elders in heaven in , who fell down to worship at the feet of the Lamb of God and declared Him worthy because He did not count equality with God something to be grasped, but emptied Himself, and laid down His life and rose again to bring us new life, we should bow, to humble ourselves before the Lord of all worth, who humbled Himself to raise us up.
Come and bow in wonder before God’s Humble Lamb.

II. (See His Glory): Come and Bless

His humility, though, is only part of the story. Verses 9-11 say that because of His humility, God the Father has highly exalted Him. After his crucifixion, Jesus was laid in a tomb. But He was raised to new life on the third day, having paid for our sins and victorious over death. The glory He deserved, the glory He set aside, was shown to belong to Him on that day, and Jesus - the Word made Flesh, the Eternal made Man, was exalted. His name is above every name. Every knee is to bow. Every tongue is to profess His lordship. His kingship. His glory.
Glory is a peculiar word. It makes us think of things majestic, weighty, overwhelmingly bright. Even in our secular age, to call something glorious is to peek past the mundane to the miraculous, the wondrous. The glory of God - His bright, weighty, majesty, is seen most clearly against the dark backdrop of the manger, the cross, the empty tomb. The radiance of God shines in the darkness, answering death with resurrection, answering sin with atonement, answering sorrow with joy.

He is the peace we have all longed for, hoped for. Promised by the God who made us, who loves us, from whom we have all rebelled and reviled. Jesus, the Lamb of God himself, is our peace. In His own Body, He has reconciled us to God.
Like the shepherds, who glorified God and praised Him when they saw the child in the manger; like the wise men, who rejoiced at God’s faithfulness and worshiped at the infant’s feet,
Come in praise and joy to bless God’s Worthy Lamb.

III. (See His Sacrifice): Come and Belong <<TABLE>>

This table is an occasion for celebration. It stands like a pulpit where we proclaim the Good News together to one another that in Christ Jesus we belong to God’s family. That because of the Lamb’s life, death, and resurrection, we are one Body. His Body. We are going to come forward to the Table in order to bow to the Lamb and bless the Lamb, and declare that we belong to the Lamb.
Come forward to the table when you’re ready.
Explain bread and cup, plus GLUTEN-FREE
Take a candle and follow the side aisle all the way around. Encircle the Sanctuary, and after the next song, we’ll light our candles starting here at the table, and sing one more song together. If you’re unable to stand through the song, find a place near the side aisle or here on front row and we’ll make sure your candle gets lit.
If you have not put your faith in Christ Jesus as your Savior and Lord, I ask that you come forward and observe what we do here, but do not take the bread and cup. Instead, in your heart, ask God to help you understand what this supper is about, and ask Him to open your heart to the good news about Jesus. Then take a candle and participate in the song with us.

On the night when he was ...
And tonight, as we look forward to Christmas, we are going to come forward to the Table in order to bow to the Lamb and bless the Lamb, and declare that we belong to the Lamb. He is our Passover Lamb.
begins with a call that we would have the same mindset as that of Christ - to humble ourselves with cross-shaped love for one another. As you
Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus.
Have this mind among yourselves (bow & bless because we are His)

On the night when he was ...
1 Corinthians 11:23–26 ESV
For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
