The coming of Jesus
The coming of Jesus
Jesus was Foretold!
Isaiah 7:14
Therefore, the Lord himself will give you a sign: See, the virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel.
Isaiah foretold the coming of Christ in great detail, lets read the account of Jesus’ birth from:
Matthew 1:1-
The birth of Jesus Christ came about this way: After his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant from the Holy Spirit. So her husband Joseph, being a righteous man, and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, decided to divorce her secretly.
But after he had considered these things, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife, because what has been conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to name him Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”
Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
See, the virgin will become pregnant
and give birth to a son,
and they will name him Immanuel,
which is translated “God is with us.”
When Joseph woke up, he did as the Lord’s angel had commanded him. He married her but did not have sexual relations with her until she gave birth to a son. And he named him Jesus.
There are more than 300 prophecies of Jesus in the OT. as a matter a fact you can see that the entire OT is pointing to Jesus, and the coming of Christ. What i would like us to understand to day is:
Jesus didn't come into existence at His birth, The essence of Jesus is eternal, therefore Jesus is, was, and will be forever, The Great I AM
Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I am.”
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him.
“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
“For God did not send His son into the world to judge” This wording is important. it doesn’t say God did not give His son, or sacrifice His son, scripture says send, God sent His Son, therefore there is a place from which God sent Him from.
Our Lord Jesus Christ came willingly in the flesh
“For this reason the Father loves Me, because I lay down My life so that I may take it again.
“No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”
“No one has taken it away from Me, but I lay it down on My own initiative. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This commandment I received from My Father.”
By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God;
By common confession, great is the mystery of godliness:
He who was revealed in the flesh,
Was vindicated in the Spirit,
Seen by angels,
Proclaimed among the nations,
Believed on in the world,
Taken up in glory.
Jesus was sent to earth, He came into the flesh as a baby to grow in this world, Jesus was sent to defy! He was sent to defy the rulers and principalities of this evil world.
Jesus Came to show us the way (in Him), the truth (in Him), and the Life (in Him). He is the ultimate display of grace .
Jesus’ Life on earth was do dynamic that it could not have been a scheme of man. Every part of His life was either fulfilled prophecy, miracle, heavenly wisdom or displays or Godly grace and mercy.
Christmas is about more than the celebration of the birth of Christ, it is a time that we can exemplify the life of Jesus to a world that is lost and dying.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
Now we don’t know the exact date for Christ’s birth. it probably wasn’t in December. But this is a great time of the year to spread the Good News. and really that is what Christmas is all about. From the end of November to the the end of December people unknowingly get all decked out to celebrate the birth of the savour of the world! How great is that!
The sad thing is: as much as we know this season is about Emmanuel, Studies suggest this is the most depressing time of the year.
suicides are 40% higher this time of year
Why do you think that is?
the more society tries to push Christ out, the more depressed the people get.
True Joy comes from God.
what do we do about it?
We show our un-natural Joy
we spread this joy
we share the true meaning of Christmas.
I see the depression of people as an opportunity to share Jesus. The birth of jesus is an awesome way to bring joy. On the 25th we celebrate the coming of our lord. The sweetest of life the birth of a child that becomes the life in us.
The song we sang this morning Mary did you know. brings so much hope:
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day walk on water?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know that your baby boy has come to make you new?
This child that you've delivered, will soon deliver you
Mary did you know that your baby boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary did you know that your baby boy will calm a storm with his hand?
Did you know that your baby boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little baby, you kiss the face of God
The blind will see, the deaf will hear, the dead will live again
The lame will leap, the dumb will speak, the praises of the lamb
Mary did you know that your baby boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary did you know that your baby boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know that your baby boy is heaven's perfect lamb?
That sleeping child you're holding is the great I am.
The hope, The joy, the Promise contained in these lyrics express how eternal Jesus is, it express his promise, and The joy that we can share with the world.
Joy to the world!
