“THE MOST EXPENSIVE CHRISTMAS GIFT EVER GIVEN”
TEXT; GALATIANS 4: 4 – 7
Galatians 4:4–7 NLT
4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law. 5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. 6 And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” 7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

The most expensive Christmas in History was the first one. For on that first Christmas day, the Lord of all creation gave to us THE WORLD’S GREATEST GIFT.
In Galatians chapter four verses four through seven, the Apostle Paul discusses the giving of this gift.
T. S: Specifically he says three things concerning the World’s Greatest Gift.

I - THE REQUISITION OF THE GIFT (Galatians 4:4)

Galatians 4:4 NLT
4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.

A - The scheduling of the gift was punctual.

1- “When the right time came...” (το πληρωμα του χρονου)
2- It was a gift given at the right time for the right reason. (John 3:16)
John 3:16 NLT
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.

B- The substance of the gift was perfect. (Galatians 4:4 b)

Galatians 4:4b NLT
4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.
1- God sent His Son
(John 3:16)
John 3:16 NLT
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
2- Born of a woman (Galatians 4:4c)
Galatians 4:4c NLT
4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.
(Isa. 7:14)
Isaiah 7:14 NLT
14 All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).
3- Subject to the Law. (Galatians 4:4d)
Galatians 4:4d NLT
4 But when the right time came, God sent his Son, born of a woman, subject to the law.
(Rom. 8: 3 – 4)
Romans 8:3–4 NLT
3 The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature. So God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have. And in that body God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving his Son as a sacrifice for our sins. 4 He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, who no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.
(Heb.4:15)
Hebrews 4:15 NLT
15 This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
ILLUSTRATION: The Gift of the Magi.
APPLICATION; No greater gift of Love has even been given than the gift God
Gave – and now offers to you.

II - The Reason for the Gift (Galatians 4:5 a)

Galatians 4:5a NLT
5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.

A - To buy freedom for us.

(ἵνα τοὺς ὑπὸ νόμον ἐξαγοράσῃ)
1) Definition of Redeem.
2) “Under the Law” ---- Under Condemnation of the law (Rom.6:23)
Romans 6:23 NLT
23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord.
3) All men are “under the law” and need to be redeemed
(Rom. 3:23).
Romans 3:23 NLT
23 For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
ILLUSTRATION; Little Boat Twice Mine.
Application: God sent His Son, Jesus Christ --- to die on the cross thus paying the penalty for your rebellion and mine.

III - THE RESULTS OF THE GIFT (Galatians 4:5-7).

Galatians 4:5–7 NLT
5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children. 6 And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” 7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.

A- He came to buy freedom for those who have been enslaved by sin. (Galatians 4:5a)

Galatians 4:5a NLT
5 God sent him to buy freedom for us who were slaves to the law, so that he could adopt us as his very own children.

2- Jesus came to set us free.

B -Believers have been adopted into God’s family. (Galatians 4:6-7)

Galatians 4:6–7 NLT
6 And because we are his children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, prompting us to call out, “Abba, Father.” 7 Now you are no longer a slave but God’s own child. And since you are his child, God has made you his heir.
