In Him Who redeems? Hebrews 9:12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. We have The redemption is an abiding fact from the past, through the present, and into the future. The fact of redemption is always a present reality with the believing reader of this passage whether he reads it today or ten years from now. 1 Redemption (Redeeming means) ... to redeem one by paying the price, to let one go free on receiving the price. (Redemption means) a releasing effected by payment of ransom, deliverance, liberation procured by the payment of a ransom. to buy in the slave market 1 Corinthians 6:20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body. Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. To buy out of the slave market for one’s self and never put up for sale again Galatians 4:4-5 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, (5) to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. To liberate from the guilt and condemnation of sin by paying a ransom. Titus 2:14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. Through His blood 1 Peter 1:18-19 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, (19) but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. (8) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- (9) not by works, so that no one can boast. 2 Timothy 1:8-10 God, (9) who has saved us and called us to a holy life--not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, (10) but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.          Redeemed through Romans 3:22-24 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, (23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (24) and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Redeemed from The curse of the law Galatians 3:13 Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.” Slavery to sin Galatians 4:3-5 So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. (4) But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, (5) to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Darkness Colossians 1:13-14 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, (14) in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Redeemed for Service Matthew 20:26-28 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, (27) and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- (28) just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." God’s Blessing Galatians 3:14 He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit. Blessing others Ephesians 4:28-30 He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need. (29) Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (30) And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 1 Corinthians 2:13 Dapto Church of Christ Sermon Series Bible Word Meanings Lesson Nine—Redemption December 23, 2018 Page 3 Self control Titus 2:12-14 It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, (13) while we wait for the blessed hope—the glorious appearing of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, (14) who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. Kingdom and Priesthood Revelation 5:9-10 And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. (10) You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” Citizenship in Heaven Isaiah 35:8-10 And a highway will be there; it will be called the Way of Holiness. The unclean will not journey on it; it will be for those who walk in that Way; wicked fools will not go about on it. (9) No lion will be there, nor will any ferocious beast get up on it; they will not be found there. But only the redeemed will walk there, (10) and the ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. Joy and Gladness Isaiah 51:11 The ransomed of the LORD will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away. Redemption completed Ephesians 1:13-14 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, (14) who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Rejecting Redemption 2 Peter 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves. Living Redeemed 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; (20) you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your body. How do you honour God with your body? You must honour Him because He has bought your body!          This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 1 Corinthians 2:13 Dapto Church of Christ Sermon Series Bible Word Meanings Lesson Nine—Redemption December 23, 2018 Page 4 Why is this important? We must remember always that with Christ as our Redeemer, He has ransomed us from the powers of sin and the influences of the world. Since we have been ransomed by His blood, we now belong to Him. He has bought us for Himself. If we belong to Him, we do not belong to ourselves, or the world. We have been ransomed so that we can serve Him and honour Him. We have been redeemed so we can receive all the blessings God has promised. We must proclaim that we are His purchased servants and have given up our own rights and desires. If we hold on to what we were, and the desires of the world, we are denying His right as Redeemer and reclaiming our own lives for ourselves. We must understand the danger of being among those who deny the fact that He has redeemed us. If we are His redeemed servants we must serve Him, and Him alone. If we live as His redeemed servants, we know we will share all the blessings which God has promised to lavish on us.  Next Lesson:              Sanctification—John 17:14-21     This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 1 Corinthians 2:13
