Sum of all things: Thus Far

In the midst of this series it maybe a good time to take a minute and be reminded what we have previously looked at:
Sum of all things: All things Jesus
Jesus is all things and He shows us to have all things.
Jesus is the way to forgiveness of sins
Jesus and Christmas; A biblical look
Jesus is the way to God
We looked what scripture says, does not say regarding Christmas
Jesus is the way out of religious confusion
Jesus the way of all things
Since Jesus is the sum of all things and we can have all things in Jesus we should put our trust in Jesus for all things.
Jesus the way to God
Jesus provides the way for us to be reconciled to the Father in Heaven.

20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding so that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.
So let us now look at why Jesus is the way

Why Jesus is the way

Why questions, we have all had them, in fact they are good questions to ask. IF you want to understand Jesus is the Way, we need to ask the question, why. Inquiring why leads to then the how and the how leads to belief, belief leads to obedience, obedience brings salvation.
______________________________________
Jesus prepared the way (Jn14:3)
Jesus is the way (Jn14:6)
Jesus provided a way to the place the Father prepared (Jn14:1-2)
Jesus is the way to know the promise to yet be fulfilled (1The4:15-17)
_______________________________________
Jesus prepared the way (Jn14:3)
John 14:3 NASB95
3 “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
(expand on this point; the way is the cross)
Jesus is the way (Jn14:6)
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
It is at the cross He became the way!
Jesus provided a way to the place the Father prepared (Jn14:1-2)
John 14:1–2 NASB95
1 “Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you.
The way in which He told us He was going to prepare so we could received what the Father had prepared.
Jesus is the way to know the promise to yet be fulfilled (1The4:15-17)
1 Thessalonians 4:15–16 NASB95
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
1The4:15
1 Thessalonians 4:17 NASB95
17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
One day the promise of His return is going to be fulfilled. We do not know the hour or the day, but we know the Promise. Our eternal life starts here, but we have our future hope for the eternal home in heaven.
It is important we understand why we chose the Way is the alternative has eternal consequences too (Mt25:31-34; Mt25:41; Mt25:46)
Matthew 25:31–32 NASB95
31 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 “All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats;
Matthew 25:33–34 NASB95
33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left. 34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
The why, is God is just and judgment is coming, the separation of sheep and goats is going to happen, then from there we see
Matthew 25:41 NASB95
41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
That is a sobering thought and we don’t like to talk about it, we don’t even really want to think about it but it is a reality that ends one of two ways
Matthew 25:46 NASB95
46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Eternal fire, eternal punishment or eternal life for the righteous. Jesus is the way to eternal life. The way that was prepared via the cross to become the way to receive what the Father has prepared for us.
Jesus being the way, making the way, showing us the way also shows us the how.
All judgment has been given to the Son, through the Word (2Cor5:10; Php2:10-11; Jn12:48)
2 Corinthians 5:10 NASB95
10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
There is no escaping it just as it says every knee will bow, every tongue will confess (see Php2:10-11) so must we all appear before Him at the judgment seat
At the judgment seat we will be judged by the just judge by the Word
John 12:48 NASB95
48 “He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day.
So vital, so important, so eternal is that we be found acceptable in His sight. Jesus is the way of life and
His Words bring eternal life, eternal life, eternal comfort (Rev21:1-4) and eternal light (Rev21:22-23) Where who told you He is the light (Jn8:12) shows us He is the light to those who have eternal life in Him where He provides the water of life (Rev22:1-5).
Eternal life, eternal comfort
Revelation 21:1–2 NASB95
1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea. 2 And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
Revelation 21:3–4 NASB95
3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them, 4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
Eternal life, eternal comfort where there are no not tears, no more death,no more mourning, no more crying or no more pain!
Now we see the Lord almighty, the Father and the Lamb are the temple and Jesus is the lamp to those who have eternal life in Him
Revelation 21:22–23 NASB95
22 I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. 23 And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
Light of the world that is the lamp that brings us the water of life
Revelation 22:1–2 NASB95
1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb, 2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Revelation 22:3–4 NASB95
3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him; 4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
Revelation 22:5 NASB95
5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.
Jesus in the passages is described as
The bridegroom
The temple
The lamp
The source of the water of life
Wonderful words of life, tell it me again, wonderful words of life waking the mortal soul!
May Jesus, who is the way, take your mortal soul to its eternal existence!
In the midst of a fallen world, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, in a time where we may feel hard pressed, Jesus gives us the wonderful words of life that give us direction to eternal life.

Jesus words on Eternal Life

Jesus words about eternal life, some are encouraging, some can be despairing if not taken properly and applied. God’s desire is that all men be saved (2Pt3:9) so let’s see what Jesus has to say since He is the way.
I mentioned 2Pt3:9 so I better give it to you.
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
A prepared place (Jn14:1) by a prepared way (Jn14:6) that leads to:
A way that leads to life (Mt7:14)
Matthew 7:14 NASB95
14 “For the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life, and there are few who find it.
Mt7:14
As it may not be easy to stay on the narrow way, it has eternal benefits, eternal life.
The way is available to all, and it is God’s desire that all would come.
A way that is available to all (2Pt3:9)
2 Peter 3:9 NASB95
9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.
A way you cannot talk, or fake your way into (Mt22:11-14)
Matthew 22:11–12 NASB95
11 “But when the king came in to look over the dinner guests, he saw a man there who was not dressed in wedding clothes, 12 and he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without wedding clothes?’ And the man was speechless.
Matthew 22:13–14 NASB95
13 “Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into the outer darkness; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ 14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.”
The parable of the 10 virgins gives the same point, we need to be prepared. You can read that parable on your own, and I encourage you to do it.
A way we should be prepared for (Mt25:1-13)
A way that is provided to those who do the Fathers will (Mt7:21)
Matthew 7:21 NASB95
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.
A way that is provided to those who do the Fathers will (Mt7:21)
So all are invited, all can come, who have the way provided, but not all will come for they do not come in the way provided. So be sure that you understand:
A way we should be diligent to protect and to practice (2Pt1:10-11)
2 Peter 1:10–11 NASB95
10 Therefore, brethren, be all the more diligent to make certain about His calling and choosing you; for as long as you practice these things, you will never stumble; 11 for in this way the entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be abundantly supplied to you.
For the way provided is the way to go for the alternative is, well, Hell, but let the scripture speak for itself (Mt25:41, 46; Rev20:10ff; Rev21:8; 2The1:7-9)
Matthew 25:41 NASB95
41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;
Mt25:41
Add to that, the promise (be it good or bad)
Matthew 25:46 NASB95
46 “These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
That terrible place prepared for the devil, the beat, the false prophets and the fallen angels. Is also the place that those who are not in the Lamb’s book of life will be. You can read more on that in Rev20:10ff. But to further show those not in the Lamb’s book of life
Revelation 21:8 NASB95
8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
So, please be sure to enter by the Way that Jesus prepared for us (the cross) to the Fathers house in which He prepared with a narrow gate. Be diligent, be faithful to the end so not to be led off into destruction, nor by not obeying the gospel.
2 Thessalonians 1:7–8 NASB95
7 and to give relief to you who are afflicted and to us as well when the Lord Jesus will be revealed from heaven with His mighty angels in flaming fire, 8 dealing out retribution to those who do not know God and to those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.
2 Thessalonians 1:9 NASB95
9 These will pay the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
We have looked at the why Jesus is the Way, we have looked at what Jesus has to say about the way, and now another thing to look at briefly is how Jesus is the way.

We stared today with saying Jesus is the way
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
may I end with this today
John 17:2–3 NASB95
2 even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. 3 “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
That as Christ gave to the Apostles and we hold their inspired words in our hands. We do that so that we may know the only true God and the Christ in which He sent so we can have eternal life in Him.
John 20:31 NASB95
31 but these have been written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing you may have life in His name.
