The top headlines of 2018

The year 2018 was filled with many, many headlines regardless of your position on real news vs fake news; there was never a moment of no news. We had some good news, some awful news, some tragic news and some weird news. We had many discoveries; water on Mars, a submarine shipwreck that dates back to 1701! We had unspeakable tragedies; in the span of 21 weeks there had been 23 school shootings. We, sadly had numerous other mass shootings that have left countless families devastated. We ave had news worthy natural disasters ranging from floods to earthquakes and wildfires. We have lost some very special and very important people this year; some to life’s natural course of action and sadly some to the very real yet very often invisible silent torment of depression. Bad news is not the only news. We had some amazing news in 2018. Third world country Paraguay was declared to be malaria free. Quite an accomplishment. Extreme poverty falls below 10%, stability restored in Liberia, and all those 12 young soccer boys safely rescued from the remote cave they were caught in for 18 days.
Another year is coming to an end. Another year has gone by with it’s ups and downs. It’s changes, both good and bad, happy and sad. But there is something we can depend on to never change. To remain the same forever. To be tomorrow what it is today and was yesterday. And that is the never ending, never changing love of God.
Psalm 117:2 NIV
2 For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Praise the Lord.
Lamatations
Lamentations 3:22 NIV
22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.
1 Corinthians 13:8 NIV
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.
Hebrews 13:8 NIV
8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
Malachi 3:6 NIV
6 “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.
Lamentations 3:31 NIV
31 For no one is cast off by the Lord forever.
1 Chronicles 16:34–41 NIV
34 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever. 35 Cry out, “Save us, God our Savior; gather us and deliver us from the nations, that we may give thanks to your holy name, and glory in your praise.” 36 Praise be to the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Then all the people said “Amen” and “Praise the Lord.” 37 David left Asaph and his associates before the ark of the covenant of the Lord to minister there regularly, according to each day’s requirements. 38 He also left Obed-Edom and his sixty-eight associates to minister with them. Obed-Edom son of Jeduthun, and also Hosah, were gatekeepers. 39 David left Zadok the priest and his fellow priests before the tabernacle of the Lord at the high place in Gibeon 40 to present burnt offerings to the Lord on the altar of burnt offering regularly, morning and evening, in accordance with everything written in the Law of the Lord, which he had given Israel. 41 With them were Heman and Jeduthun and the rest of those chosen and designated by name to give thanks to the Lord, “for his love endures forever.”
