2018 in Review/Prayer time - Psalm 67

JOY Fellowship - offers ongoing fellowship opportunities to our church.
Kids - others who have to pay workers to cover nursery/childcare rooms. Not here. We have a wonderful foundation for future growth and I would invite anyone, of any age, who isn’t working consistently to help share the load and make our kids area fresh and exciting each week.
We have numerous individuals that clean and maintain the church. That help us relocate funds to bless others.
Super Summer - One of the best weeks of our year as a youth group - we’ve had longer lasting, deeper conversations following this week than any other weeks since I’ve been hear
Summer Prayer with Youth - Kids Identify, Invest, Invite, Increase - had two youth who have responded by attending an event…one who refused to even near the doors of a church
Kids Camp - Kannakuk > Sports Crusaders > kids camp. Parents thanking us for putting this week together. Parents love it because they have conversations at home. Kids love it because they get to do what they want. Yet they still hear the gospel in every section part.
You opened the doors to the Apple Festival (MBCH) $25,000
Truck or Treat - 500 or so kids come through our parking lot.
OCC - We packed 295 boxes, plus recieved 1818 as a collecting point.
November PD Thanksgiving meal
86 Boxes for RP cares program
Feed a wonderful meal to all three shifts of SMFD
Through our benevolence fund, we have helped a number of people in a time of great need.
Currently have several people engaged in a deeper time of discipleship
Blessed teachers at RE
Served hotdogs as a community partner in the back to school fair
Adopted 3 families (12) kids for Christmas
We will be working next Saturday on a house east of town - blessing, and encouraging her through our labor - I expect this will give us several gospel conversations.
Gracious - Audience participation - how has God been gracious to you
Face shine upon us - Take time to pray, ask God to shine upon you. Ask him to light up difficulties in your life. Express your desire to feel his presence
So other may know. “Who do you know”. “Why haven’t you shared.” “Ask God to Forgive you.” “Ask God to Help you”
“Who”
“Why”
“Forgive me”
“Help me”

The Wise Worship Him - Waypoints to Worship

Introduction
Waypoints - Immediate point of reference when traveling along a route. Getting from one place to the next-confidence in your direction. Many of you use waypoints every day. You may not be able to tell me what street to turn on, but you could say, turn by Quick Trip.
Kingdom - Wherever the King

Wise Men - When the star appeared near the birth date of Jesus, they saw the star appear, being astronomers, and followed it there. Many people associated a new star with the birth of a new king. They followed the star to Jerusalem - then to Bethlehem.
They began their travels and arrived in Jerusalem maybe a late as two years after the birth of Jesus. When they respectfully made their purpose known to King Herod, Herod panicked because his throne was now at risk. He also wanted to go and WORSHIP the king…meaning destroy him.
People have been seeking Jesus from that time on; but we must do more than just seek Him…we must do as the wise men did - worship HIM.
to express in attitude or gesture one’s complete dependence on or submission to a high authority figure, (fall down and) worship, do obeisance to, prostrate oneself before, do reverence to, welcome respectfully
Worship is more than 1 hour a week. Worship is more than a set of religious songs. Worship is a lifestyle.
Worship is to express in attitude or gesture one’s complete dependence on or submission to a high authority figure

If you are wise, you will worship the King…Jesus. But how do you know you are on the right path? This morning I want to introduce to you 4 Waypoints out of the Matthew that offer us an immediate point of reference…and immediate point that says…we are on the right path.
The wise men, after Jesus was born, recognized his star (belief that a star was created when a future king was born). They followed that star to Jerusalem where they met Herod, the current King of the Jews, to notify him they have come to worship the new King.

Expo
Why - repentance is the entry point to experience the kingdom
Why: Repent - General announcement to all - prerequisite for entering into the kingdom
When - the kingdom of heaven is here…now…right now.
Where - Follow Him (Get behind me)
Why - make -
To cause something to happen,
to bring about a new condition,
To prepare
What - fisherman
Verb (fish) is what fishermen do
Noun (fisherman) is who we are to be - it’s what defines us!
Religious leaders refused, attempted to trap, and was intent on killing Jesus
Where: Follow me - Call to his disciples (Get behind me)
There are many who “repent”
There are few who actually follow. John the Baptist recognized this when the religious leaders, whose repentance would be nothing more than a facade, came to him to be baptized. Jesus cautioned when he said, “many will say, ‘Lord, Lord’…but I never knew them”. It’s those who follow His words that will be counted as disciples…followers…true repentant people.
What: Make - to do something that brings about an event, state, or condition—cause to happen. When we devote our lives to Christ, follow Him, there should expect nothing more than to become like Him
Who: Fisherman of people (noun…not a verb) It’s who you become!

Herod, the King of Israel at this time, would have nothing to do with any other king except - and would attempt to rid all possible successors to his throne

Content with following the crowd? Maybe it’s easier to take a wider path like Jesus warned us about. HIs path will be narrow/difficult, but the way that leads to death will be wide/easy.
What keeps you from following Jesus?
Why we should repent of our ways and follow Jesus

He knows the way - - The way, the Truth, The life.
He’s navigated the difficulties already ()
He’s promised to always be there (Matthew 28:19-20)
He’s the good shepherd - nothing can snatch us out of his hand (John 10)
He’s the door - the barrier between safety and destruction ()
He is the light that we walk in ()
His is the light of the world - he navigates us into truth ()
Daily walk
Daily walk
Illus: Walking through a crowd with a kid. Multiple kids or hands full? There have been times I’ve told my young boys, grab hold of my pocket and don’t let go…I know they are right behind me.
We have to get as close to Jesus as possible - this forces us to deny myself, my own initiatives, my own desires…submit to his authority. It goes against the grain of humanity.
Your relationship with Jesus is a crutch…your weak.
No it’s not a crutch…it’s a wheelchair - there’s not other way except to allow Jesus to take control. Through that control you find great strength. (Stephen, first martyr)
His way…or we can fight against it.
Illus: navigating a crowd with children. Hand, hold onto pockets, etc.
If we want to worship Jesus…honor Him with our lives…we must get directly behind Him
Spend time daily in His word (Psalms)
Learn to pray
Connect to the body of Christ
Serve the body of Christ
Share - fish for people, drag them out of the depths of destruction and into the eternal life God promises

Related to the first waypoint - follow me, get behind me. It was was needed by Peter when he thought better than his Lord...”Get behind me Satan...”
Poor is spirit - we are desperate for Him
Poor is spirit - we are desperate for Him, dependent upon him
This waypoint maybe one of the most hardest to get to, and one that keeps us from accomplishing so much more.
I can’t -
Poor - no one wants to be poor/desperate
Illus: “That Jesus is just a crutch for week people”. I disagree…he’s a wheelchair for a helpless soul…in whom we find great strength.
We must trust solely upon him.
This takes great humility!
A- Aim for Kingdom Righteousness ()

Not promises riches
Kingdom Righteous - God will be fair, He will be just
Will promise to take care of our need
Through His faithfulness alone
Through His faithfulness through the faithfulness of others
Even if not now…then! This world is just a stopping point.

G.O.S.P.E.L.
What is the G.O.S.P.E.L.
God designed us to be with him
Our sins seperated us from him
Sin cannot be removed by good deeds
Paying the price, Jesus died and rose again
Everyone who believes can be saved
Life with Jesus can begin now and last forever
Made known - the Gospel of the Kingdom
Connected with the greater mission
Illus: I just fix wheels - you “just” get to put your hands on the most high-tech bomber in the world…and you job is “just alright”.
There are people who are “just living”. They are “just passing” through this world- ultimately to eternal destruction and separation from God.
We have a duty - to share the gospel of the Kingdom
We have a duty - to introduce them to the King
We have a duty - to rescue them from just living, to receiving life abundantly
We have a duty - to take up the torch like Paul who said, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation”

Relentless…despite any hardships that come our way…we must declare the good news
Several cautions Jesus gives, none that clearly indicated the end has come
One positive indication is in verse 14 - the gospel will be preached to every nation
GOSPEL
God- created us to be with him
Our- sins have separated us from him
Sins- cannot be removed by good deeds
Relentless…despite any hardships that come our way…we must declare the good news
Paying- the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again
Everyone- whoever believe in Jesus alone can be saved
Life- begins with Jesus now and lasts forever

Easy to dissolve into a social justice or social gospel rather than the gospel of the kingdom. We bless our community because we are called to do so. We do so because we know doors for the gospel will open. We do so because we believe that we hold the answer that brings hope, healing, salvation.

Are you living a life of worship…do you honor him
If not, why not
You cannot if you do not know him
