Introduction: As we go through this year of 2019 we have to know who we are following. tells us how to deal with the challenges we face as we go through the year of 2019.
Psalms 23:1
Psalm 23:1 ESV
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want
The Lord is my shepherd; I sh all not want
In 2019 God is telling through David that in 2019 there is nothing that we will want or as some translate there is nothing we will lack. But there will be time when our heart and mind will want to say differently, but let the verse with the misspell shall bring you back on tract. When we want to quiet someone we say “sh”. When satan try to discourage us we need to say “sh”, and quiet our hearts. “I all not want” sounds like broken English, take a closer look. How much is “all”? Let this broken sentence remind you that there will be nothing that you will need in 2019 that God can’t provide. So “sh” your heart and mind and let them know your shepherd is more than able and can provide “all” your wants.

Psalm 23:2 ESV
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters.
Psalms 23:
S
Sometimes God has to force us to take it easy. There are some people that work 24/7 if they could, and I understand the need to provide for your family. God can cause things to happen (lost of a job, an illness etc) so we can rest. Green grass looks good and feels good to lay in. Jesus when He fed the multitude had them sit down on the grass on the mountain. Beside still waters in Hebrew is translated as “waters of rest”. Many nights Rosa and I would play soothing running water sound on the ipad to go to bed, it makes you rest comfortably.
Psalm 23:3 ESV
3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Psalms 23:
When you are laying on a bed of green grass with soothing running water, not only is our bodies restored, but so is our soul. When you get up with a refresh body and soul He guides us in the paths (all the right paths-another translation) for His name sake, when we walk in the way that God guides us, we get the blessings and God get the glory and praise.
Psalms 23:
Psalm 23:4 ESV
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Sometime we separate these verses, but look closer. David said that we are led in right paths, now he tells us that sometimes we may walk through the valley of the shadow of death (the valley of deep darkness). In 2019 we may have to walk through those paths that seems dark as if there is no way out, but we don’t have to be afraid God is there with us. The rod and the staff was in the shepherd hands to guide and protect the sheep. It is good to know that God not only guides us but protects us also from our enemies.
Psalm 23:5 ESV
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Psalm 23:5
When you go through those dark times when your enemies tried to overcome you. God prepares a table in their presence to show them that you are still alive. One of the signs to show that a person is alive is that you can eat. Jesus disciples din’t believe that He was alive until he ate before them. God will not send someone or an angel to prepare the table for you, he will make it happen himself. When I think of anointing with oil, I think of a massage. God massages our head(mind) because he wants us to know that we can relax in the presence of our enemies because that is part of the comfort of verse 4, He has defeated our enemies. Daniel in the lion den. The overflow for 2019 is that God would provide all that you need and more.
Psalm 23:6 ESV
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Surely goodness and mercy(steadfast love) shall follow me; for the first month of the year, when my enemies and situations are good, when I come out of the darkest valley, on good day when the sun is shining and I am happy, all the days of our life. No, even in our worst day of 2019 . If you look at these verses, one thing stands out, they all mentions the presence of the Lord our Shepherd.
Conclusion: David ended by saying he would dwell in the house of the Lord forever. This speaks about a relationship with God and building on that relationship by living in His presence. I believe this is done through reading and studying His word, and being in an attitude of gratitude, prayer, praise, and worship. We don’t know what we will encounter in 2019, but I know that we will need a Good Shepherd to comfort and to guide uss
