Pray, then, this way in 2019
Pray, then, this way in 2019
We spoke last week about recognizing Jesus after Christmas, as our Sacrifice, Savior, and Sword that divides the thoughts of our heart. Today we want to discuss recognizing Jesus after Christmas should effect our lives the rest of 2019. Recognizing Jesus at the beginning of the year is not enough, to keep us close to him the rest of the year. Recognizing Jesus should make us what a closer relationship with Him. Jesus says we should want to have him in the audience, no matter what we are doing.
“Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
“Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Matt 6:9
Matt 6:9
Pray as a child asking a Father to take care of his/her needs. It is not about repetition but about a relationship. Realize we are His children and go to God as a child to a father (D. Martin Lloyd-Jones, 308).
D Mark Lord Jones said if you contrast the recorded prayers in the eighteenth and nineteenth century church we would find that the more that prayer were recorded the more they became polished and polite (306):
The church became polished and polite and dignified and these supposed to worship hers were unconsciously occupied with themselves and forgetful that they were in communion with the living God. It is a very subtle thing.
“Pray, then, in this way:
‘Our Father who is in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
‘Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Matthew 6::
Please make you name only!
‘Give us this day our daily bread.
Please give us our daily needs for existence.
‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Please Forgive the debt that is too big, fr us to pay.
‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’
mat 6:
“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
“But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
