A. Preparations for Encounter with God
1. Awareness of God’s Presence (Exodus 3:3)
– Do you not know that your body is the
temple of God (1 Corinthians 6:19)
2. Awareness of our Unconfessed Sins
(Exodus 3:5-6)
– Do not grieve the Holy Spirit (Ephesians
4:30)
3. Awareness of our Excuses (Exodus 3:11,
13; 4:1, 10)

B. Purposes of Encounter with God
1. To deliver the Afflicted (Exodus 3:8-10)
– Israelites Oppressed (bondage of sin)
2. To bless the Afflicted (Exodus 3:8, 17)
– Promised Land (Heaven)
Salvation is not merely getting men out of Hell into
Heaven
– God in Burning Bush (Holy Spirit in us)
Salvation is to get God out of Heaven into men
C. Power of Encounter with God
1. Power of His Presence (Exodus 3:12-14)
– His presence with us is the most important
message in Exodus Chapter 3
2. Power of His Word (Exodus 3:15-21)
– His word should be used to double check any
messages we receive
3. Power of His Image (Exodus 4:1-9)
– His image in us helps people to know that we
represent God and have God’s Spirit in us
Chiastic / Parallel Structure in Exodus 3
A. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is
holy ground (3:5)
B. I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God
of Isaac, and the God of Jacob (3:6)
• Deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptian (3:8a)
• To a land flowing with milk and honey (3:8B)
• I will send you to Pharaoh (3:9)
C. I will certainly be with you (3:12)

1. Power of His Presence (Exodus 3:12-14)
– His presence with us is the most important
message in Exodus Chapter 3

– His word should be used to double check any
messages we receive

– His image in us helps people to know that we

D. Promises in God's Encounter
1. Our adequacy comes from God (2
Corinthians 3:5)
– Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to
think of anything as being from
ourselves, but our sufficiency is from
God, who also made us sufficient as
ministers of the new covenant, not of the
letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills,
but the Spirit gives life.
