Apostasy is Taught in the Bible
• 2 Peter 2:20-22: For if, after they have
escaped the pollutions of the world through
the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ, they are again entangled in them and
overcome, the latter end is worse for them
than the beginning. For it would have been
better for them not to have known the way
of righteousness, than having known it, to
turn from the holy commandment delivered
to them.
Apostasy is Taught in the Bible 2
• Hebrews 6:4-6: For it is impossible for
those who were once enlightened, and
have tasted the heavenly gift, and have
become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and
have tasted the good word of God and the
powers of the age to come, if they fall
away, to renew them again to repentance,
since they crucify again for themselves
the Son of God, and put Him to an open
shame.
Apostasy is Taught in the Bible 3
• Hebrews 10:26-29: For if we sin willfully
after we have received the knowledge of the
truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for
sins, but a certain fearful expectation of
judgment, and fiery indignation which will
devour the adversaries. Anyone who has
rejected Moses’ law dies without mercy on
the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of
how much worse punishment, do you
suppose, will he be thought worthy who has
trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted
the blood of the covenant by which he was
sanctified a common thing, and insulted the
Spirit of grace?

A. The Price Jesus Paid for Us
• He is the redeemer (1:14)
• He is the reconciler (1:20)
If we sin willfully, we will trample the Son
of God underfoot, count the blood of the
covenant by which he was sanctified a
common thing, and insult the Spirit of
grace (Hebrews 10:26-29)
A. Taking A Page from Joseph’s Life
• When Potiphar’s wife tried to seduce
Joseph by saying, “Lie with me”
• Joseph replied “Look, my master does
not know what is with me in the house,
and he has committed all that he has to
my hand. There is no one greater in this
house than I, nor has he kept back
anything from me but you, because you
are his wife. How then can I do this great
wickedness, and sin against God?”
(Genesis 39:7-9)
B. The Power of Jesus’ Image in Us
• He has the image (Eikon or icon) of God
(1:15a)
• He has the fullness of his Father (1:19)
“For whom He foreknew, He also
predestined to be conformed to the image
of His Son, that He might be the firstborn
among many brethren” (Romans 8:29)
B. Taking A Page from Joseph’s Life
• Potiphar saw that the LORD was with Joseph
(Genesis 39:2)
• The Pharaoh called Joseph the Spirit of God
(Genesis 41:38)
• And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name ZaphnathPaaneah – which means God speaks and He
lives (Genesis 41:45)
C. The Plan Jesus has for Us
• He is the Firstborn over all creations (1:15b16; Genesis 1; John 1:3)
• He is the Firstborn from the dead (1:18)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant
mercy has begotten us again to a living hope
through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from
the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and
undefiled and that does not fade away,
reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by
the power of God through faith for salvation
ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Peter
1:3-5).
C. Taking A Page from Joseph’s Life
• And Joseph said to his brethren, “I am
dying; but God will surely visit you, and
bring you out of this land to the land of
which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac,
and to Jacob.” Then Joseph took an
oath from the children of Israel, saying,
“God will surely visit you, and you shall
carry up my bones from here”
(Genesis 50:24-25)
D. The Promise Jesus has to Us
• He sustains all things (1:17).
• In Jesus, all “things,” makes sense
And we know that all things work
together for good to those who love
God, to those who are the called
according to His purpose (Romans
8:28)
D. Taking A Page from Joseph’s Life
• Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for
am I in the place of God? But as for you, you
meant evil against me; but God meant it for
good, in order to bring it about as it is this
day, to save many people alive. Now
therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for
you and your little ones.” And he comforted
them and spoke kindly to them. (Genesis
50:19-21)
Have Faith, don’t sin willfully against Christ
Have Love of Christ’s image in us
Have Hope in the Christ’s eternal promise
Trust that Christ will sustain all things – including us
Summary
• Then Paul gave them the good news in
concentrated form (Colossians 1:21-23).
Anyone who may have drifted from the faith
should get re-focused on Jesus.
Challenge Praise Jesus for who He is and for all
that He’s done for you and for His promise.
