Isaiah 6:1-3
In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the
Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up,
and the train of His robe filled the temple.
Above it stood seraphim; each one had six
wings: with two he covered his face, with
two he covered his feet, and with two he
flew. And one cried to another and said:
“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory!”
Isaiah 6:4-5
And the posts of the door were shaken
by the voice of him who cried out, and
the house was filled with smoke.
So I said:
“Woe is me, for I am undone!
Because I am a man of unclean lips,
And I dwell in the midst of a people of
unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the
King, The LORD of hosts.”
Isaiah 6:6-9
Then one of the seraphim flew to me,
having in his hand a live coal which he had
taken with the tongs from the altar. And he
touched my mouth with it, and said:
“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away, And your sin
purged.”
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send, And who will go for
Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” And He
said, “Go, and tell this people

The Reverence in Worship (Isaiah 6:1-4)
The Reflection on Worship (Isaiah 6:5)
The Restoration in Worship (Isaiah 6:6-7)
The Response to Worship (Isaiah 6:8)
Definition of Worship
• The word worship came from the old English
word worthship
• To worship is to give reverence, honor,
homage, praise, and glory to the Worthy One
The Title vs. the Name of God
Verse 1- Lord = Adonai (title of God)
Verse 3- LORD = YHWH (sacred name of God)
Combining the vowels of
Adonai with Tetragram
Yahowah
German translation
Jehovah
The Reverence in Worship
• He is the Eternal God
– Although King Uzziah was dead, the Lord (Adonai,
the Sovereign One) is still on His throne (Isaiah
6:1)
– His name is YHWH (Isaiah 6:3), who was, who is
and who is to come
• He is the Holy God
– Angels sang, “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of
hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory” (Isaiah
6:3)
*** His Holiness results in His other Attributes ***
God is Holy →Eternal , All Present, All Knowing→
God is Absolute, not affected by time, space &
The Reflection on Worship
• Reflection on Self
– Angels covered their faces and their feet (Isaiah 6:2)
• Reflection on Sin
– Isaiah said, “Woe is me, for I am undone! Because I
am a man of unclean lips (Isaiah 6:5a)
• Reflection on Standard
– And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips;
For my eyes have seen the King, The Lord of hosts
(Isaiah 6:5b)
• Relative to Others
• Relative to God’s Standard
• Relative to Our Good Deeds
The Restoration in Worship (a)
• Worshipper Purified- Christ’s blood purges our sin
– To be cured from the burning of the saraph (sin),
one must put the saraph on the pole (cross) and
look up with faith (Numbers 21:4-9; John 3:14)
– Then, one will not be burned by the saraph, but
purified by the live coal (blood of Christ) instead
(Isaiah 6:6)
– The Apostle John says Jesus was YHWH, whom
Prophet Isaiah saw in the temple (John 12:39-41)
Jesus is YHWH
Apostle John said in John 12:39-41 that Jesus
was whom Prophet Isaiah saw in the temple.
39-“For this reason they could not believe,
because, as Isaiah says elsewhere:
40-‘He has blinded their eyes and hardened
their hearts, so they can neither see with their
eyes, nor understand with their hearts, nor
turn—and I would heal them.’ (Isaiah 6:10)
41- Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory
and spoke about him”. (NIV)
The Restoration in Worship (b)
• Worshipper Refined- Holy Spirit is like fire
that sanctifies us
– that the genuineness of your faith, being
much more precious than gold that
perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be
found to praise, honor, and glory at the
revelation of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:7)
– The refining pot is for silver and the
furnace for gold, But the Lord tests the
hearts (Proverbs 17:3)
The Response to Worship (a)
• If we truly know the Holy God we Worship
(Reverence in Worship)
• If we truly reflect upon ourselves during our
Worship (Reflection on Worship)
• If we are truly restored & refined through our
Worship (Restoration in Worship)
• We will have actions (Response to Worship)
like Prophet Isaiah
The Response to Worship (b)
Isaiah heard the voice of the Lord, saying:
“Whom shall I send, And who will go for Us?”
Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.” And He
said, “Go, and tell this people (Isaiah 6:8-9)
Conclusions
• Worship is to give, not solely to receive
• Worship God with all our heart, mind and
strength
• Worship is not just lip service, but action
• People who are truly redeemed by God will
have the urge to truly worship Him by having
fellowship with Christians, studying His word,
serving Him and evangelizing.
What is your burden in honoring God and
worshipping Him today?
