Introduction
I’m so excited this year to take all of you on a deep spiritual journey.
A walk with God that many of you didn’t even know existed.
I don’t want this year to be about all the things we can do for God but more of what it means to be with God, and walk with God, behold God as he does amazing things in and through us.
Today we are starting our DNA Series.
It’s important for each of you to not only understand why we do what we do as a church but to take steps to conform your life to this DNA as well.
Our Mission Statement:
“Producing Jesus followers of faith that expand God’s kingdom.
“
Matthew 28:19-20
This statement is our pass or fail statement.
It is a summary of Christ’s commission to the church.
When we look back over the live of our church, if we can’t say that we have produced Jesus followers of faith that expand God’s Kingdom then we have not done what the Lord has asked of us.
To accomplish the mission, we have 5 Core Values that will be the drivers of this success.
Bible Believers: Submitting to the authority of the Bible for all life and practice.
Disciple Makers: Investing the gospel in faithful men and women that will invest its power in others.
Disciple Makers: Investing the gospel in faithful men and women that will invest its power in others.
God pleasures: Trusting God with every aspect of our lives as we join Him in His work.
Community Engagers: Becoming a vital part of our community allowing opportunities to share the gospel.
Kingdom Builders: Taking every God-given opportunity to advance the Kingdom of Christ in this world.
Over the next 5 weeks we will take each one of these core values and understand how to live out these truths and accomplish the mission of producing Jesus followers of faith that expand God’s Kingdom.
Today Let’s focus on the first one: Bible Believers
You might think this would be a given in our area or even in the christian circles but that is not the case anymore.
So many people come to church with a preconceived idea of what it means to be a Christian.
They have not come to humble themselves and learn what the scripture says but rather to be affirmed in their own opinions.
The first thing that is necessary to be a Bible Believer is to
admit that you don’t have it all figured out
humble yourself before God and seek out his truth and his ways.
This is a big struggle for Pastor’s today.
Salvation starts with a humble, repentant heart toward God.
A receiving of the truth that is able to save your souls.
The truth about yourself is not easy to swallow sometimes.
Lord I realize that, according to your Word, I have sinned against you and am in need of a Savior.
I understand, according to your Word, that without your forgiveness and grace, I will continue to be lost in this world and the world to come.
I believe according to your Word that you came to earth in the form of a man and died a sinners death to pay for my sin.
I believe, according to your Word, that through your power you raised Jesus from the dead and through that same power return and raise us from the dead to be with you.
I humbly receive your invitation to be born again, according to your Word, and willing submit myself to you as King of kings and Lord of lords.
When a person humbles themselves and receives Christ as their Lord and Savior, they are indwelt with the Holy Spirit of God that drives them to be conformed to the will of God.
A true conversion results in a true Jesus follower of faith.
We are not producing converts and we are not commanded to produce converts.
We are commanded to make disciples; Jesus followers of faith that make other disciples.
And the kingdom of God is expanded.
You see it’s easy to make mental assent and say, “I believe the Bible is the Word of God,” but that is not the biblical definition of a Bible Believer.
James 1:21-22
So how do we learn to put away all filthiness and wickedness from our lives, fleshing out real life change, and becoming doers of the Word and not hears only.
Reading the Instruction: Putting things together not taking the time to understand how its supposed to go together.
So it is with many of our Christian lives today.
We say, “I think I know enough figure it out.”
But you just can’t get the pieces to fit right.
The Christian life is a spiritual life.
You will never figure it out without the instruction and guidance from God.
Therefore, God has given you 2 things that you must have to be successful.
The instruction of God’s Word.
The Guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The reason why many of us think we can put life together without the instruction and guidance is we have this false Idea that we are inherently good.
If I’m naturally inherently good, then good should come out of me and I will see my way through life.
And good will prevail.
But the reality is we are all fallen beings with a corrupted heart, a corrupt body, and a corrupted spirit.
We are not inherently good but evil.
This is hard for some people to grasp because of their pride.
We don’t like to admit we have a problem.
The Hebrew word for “desperately sick” is anus which literally means “incurable.”
It’s like going to the doctor and him saying, “I’m not going to sugar coat it.
Your heart is bad.
The only way to save your life is to give you a heart transplant.
The wickedness of our hearts lead us into a life of desperation and eventually death.
This bad heart effects all aspects of our life.
Jesus Said
Matt
Prov 4:
Proverbs
The wickedness of our hearts lead us into a life of desperation.
When you receive Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit, the divine nature of God, that transforms your hearts and minds.

Changing your Thought patterns
“To change the cycle of life you must change the source of your thinking.”
At the beginning of the new year everyone sets some new year’s resolutions.
The problem is the jump to the action.
“Before you change an action you must change your thinking.”
The battle is always in the mind.
I have learned not to trust my own thoughts, mind, and heart because I know that at my core I’m corrupted and must be renewed.
True transformation will only take place when you renew your mind with the Word of God; submitting to the authority of the Bible for all life and practice.
The first act of true transformation is to take control of your thought life not your actions.
This divine power is not some mystical unknown power but the Holy Spirit that God has given you for instruction and guidance.
Through this divine power destroy arguments and arrogant opinion raised against God.
When you are led by the Holy Spirit in your thought life you will not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
This is an intentional act of you yielding your thoughts to the thoughts of the Spirit of God in you.
“The Word of God gives a voice to the Holy Spirit as He renews your mind and guides you into all through.”
Your words are formed by your thoughts
What are you saying about yourself?
Examples: Worthless, useless, insecure, failure, ugly, inadequate, unloved, forgotten, rejected.
The words we say come from the overflow of the heart.
When we listen to the Holy Spirit we hear a different heart?
