Matthew 5:17–18 ESV
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

When we begin to understand that the “Law” was given as loving guidelines to the nation of Israel we can see the heart behind it. But not only is the Law constituted of guidelines, it also contains a sacrificial system, which begs the question, why?
What becomes obvious the more you study the Law is the realization that because it came from God, it is revealing the standards of God, it is revealing the nature of God. The second thing that quickly becomes apparent is the fact that we humans are incapable of keeping the “Law” wholly and completely.
The law reveals the character of God, the Law reveals the holy standards of God, and the law reveals our sinfulness. Once we become aware of our sinfulness, the last thing the Law reveals is our desperate need for a Savior, someone to keep the Law wholly and completely for us.
