You cannot get to Chair 3 if you don’t know your Spiritual Gifting
What are the Gifts?
Given by the Spirit, not natural skill
And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith.
For one person is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, and another the message of knowledge according to the same Spirit,
Everywhere in the NT, Gifting is associated with the Spirit giving, not people earning or having prior skills or learning something
Unbelievers have skills, but believers have skills AND Spiritual Gifts
This first happened at Pentecost
‘And in the last days it will be,’ God says,
‘that I will pour out my Spirit on all people,
and your sons and your daughters will prophesy,
and your young men will see visions,
and your old men will dream dreams.
Let the priests, those who serve the Lord, weep
from the vestibule all the way back to the altar.
Let them say, “Have pity, O Lord, on your people;
please do not turn over your inheritance to be mocked,
to become a proverb among the nations.
Why should it be said among the peoples,
“Where is their God?”
So what are the gifts?
And we have different gifts according to the grace given to us. If the gift is prophecy, that individual must use it in proportion to his faith. If it is service, he must serve; if it is teaching, he must teach; if it is exhortation, he must exhort; if it is contributing, he must do so with sincerity; if it is leadership, he must do so with diligence; if it is showing mercy, he must do so with cheerfulness.
, , many more
What is the purpose?
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.”
It’s for the building and edification of the church into a wonderful structure

Wayne A. Grudem, Systematic Theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine (Leicester, England; Grand Rapids, MI: Inter-Varsity Press; Zondervan Pub. House, 2004), 1020.
From this list, are there any in here that you see people using here at PCAC? Do you think there is anything missing at PCAC from this list that could be added?
From this list, are there any that people would describe you as that might be your spiritual gift? For example, you could be known as someone who is very encouraging, or someone with an extraordinary amount of faith.
What might some of these specific gifts look like if we were to implement them in our Youth Group?
Since the Spirit is the one who gives gifts to believers, why do you think we don’t see some of these gifts today? (e.g. miraculous healings, tongues, prophecy)
Possible Answer: This is a tough one. God is the One who gives spiritual gifts (, ), and also gives salvation. For example, all throughout Acts we see the Holy Spirit give salvation and gifts simultaneously at the moment of salvation, and this can be seen when someone is given the gift of tongues they begin using that gift immediately upon salvation (; ; ). Therefore, the absence of these gifts is not due to a lack of faith, but purely a decision from God which nobody quite knows why. There are good theories, such as God waiting for the Word of God to be established (i.e. the “perfect” mentioned in ), but can’t be 100% certain.

House Analogy
Going home, seeing a bunch of cement bags, pipes, 2x4’s, wheelborrows
Foundation is already laid
The Foundation of the Church is laid—God may not be using certain gifts because their purpose has been filled, for now
There are plenty of gifts that remain, just like the decoration in a home
Your purpose is to fill this house with God’s peace and invite others to come home
We will learn more next week on what your specific role might be
New Year’s Resolution
Many Rededicated to the Lord
What Chair are you in, and where do you want to be by the end of this year?
Gifting—What do others recognize in you, and how will you grow it?
If you are not being discipled/mentored, this will be nearly impossible
Talk to your SS Leader, myself, or Pastor Brian if you want that
