“Man, I have a problem!”

Don’t we all have problems at times? Sure we do, we oftentimes turn to family, friends, maybe even some professionals for help, but do we turn to the Lord? For there is one problem only the Lord can handle (sin).
__________________________________________________
One problem with eternal consequences; sin (Isa59:2)
One problem that had us spiritually dead (Eph2:1)
One problem that excluded us from life with God (Eph4:18-19)
One problem if not dealt with leads to be handed over (Rom1:28)
________________________________________________
Sin is the problem,it is a serious problem and the solution to the problem is Jesus, Gods scheme of redemption revealed in His Son.
____________________________________________________
One problem with eternal consequences; sin (Isa59:2)
Isaiah 59:2 NASB95
2 But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.
I know some of these verses may be very familiar, you may even be able to quote them, for they re basic, but don’t the basics need to be renewed and refreshed in us at times? We do this, so that we will be prepared to share the hope that is in us with others.
(Insert slide: Sin missing the mark)
Sin is missing the mark, what mark you may ask?
Sin is missing the mark, God’s mark, God’s standard that He sets. Sin separates and sin shields God’s eyes and blocks God’s ears from seeing and hearing you.
One problem with eternal consequences; sin (Isa59:2)
One problem that had us spiritually dead (Eph2:1)
Ephesians 2:1 NASB95
1 And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
One problem with eternal consequences; sin (Isa59:2)
One problem that had us spiritually dead (Eph2:1)
One problem that excluded us from life with God (Eph4:18-19)
Ephesians 4:18–19 NASB95
18 being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; 19 and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.
One problem with eternal consequences; sin (Isa59:2)
One problem that had us spiritually dead (Eph2:1)
One problem that excluded us from life with God (Eph4:18-19)
One problem if not dealt with leads to be handed over (Rom1:28)
Romans 1:28 NASB95
28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper,
Sin impacts us and our eternal destination, it also impacts those around us. when we have the wrong mark, the wrong standard, we can lead people in wrong direction and wrong destination.
Now there are several types of sin. To understand we need forgiveness we need to understand sin.
Sins of commission (1Jn3:4)
1 John 3:4 NASB95
4 Everyone who practices sin also practices lawlessness; and sin is lawlessness.
Sin is not just an action; it is a lifestyle, a life choice to live outside of God’s standard.
Sins of omission (Jam4:17)
James 4:17 NASB95
17 Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin.
Sins of omission in context here is knowing God is in control, and you trying to control God. Here they planned to go to another country for a year and earn lots of money and return. when it should have been if it is God’s will not their will.
(expand on this for 1 min only how it has been misused by many)
Sins of conscience (Rom14:23)
Romans 14:23 NASB95
23 But he who doubts is condemned if he eats, because his eating is not from faith; and whatever is not from faith is sin.
It is a sin if you have a matter of personal conscience and you violate that, here this has to do with food, for me it would be a sin for me to be in a bar as well as many other things that are my convictions.
Sins that eat away at you (Psm32:3-4)
Sin can eat away with you if you don’t deal with is.
Psalm 32:3–4 NASB95
3 When I kept silent about my sin, my body wasted away Through my groaning all day long. 4 For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; My vitality was drained away as with the fever heat of summer. Selah.
Sin has a cost, death (Rom6:23)
Just reference Rom passage
Sin’s cost death (Rom6:23)
Eternal death that ends with fire (Rev21:8)
Revelation 21:8 NASB95
8 “But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
As hard as it is to hear, to discuss, or maybe even to bring to someones attention (of course done in love, with gentleness and respect) it is eternally necessary that the sin problem be addressed.

God’s nature and the SIN problem

God is holy, God hides his face and does not hear because of the sin problem (Isa59:2) So let’s look at God’s nature and the sin problem. For God will not dwell with sin.
___________________________________________
For God is holy (1Sam2:2; Lev19:2)
God is just and He is righteous (Deu32:4; Psm9:7-8; Col3:25)
God tells us what is acceptable, so He is just in keeping His Word (Lev10:3; Num20:12)
Because God is Holy, God is just, the sin problem has consequences (Rom6:23) and we all have the problem for we all fall short (Rom3:23)
___________________________________________
For God is holy (1Sam2:2; Lev19:2)
God is just (Deu32:4; Psm9:7-8; Col3:25)
God tells us what is acceptable, so He is just in keeping His Word (Lev10:3; Num20:12)
1 Samuel 2:2 NASB95
2 “There is no one holy like the Lord, Indeed, there is no one besides You, Nor is there any rock like our God.
Because God is Holy, God is just, the sin problem has consequences (Rom6:23) and we all have the problem for we all fall short (Rom3:23)
This is from Hannah’s beautiful prayer that is offered up, her song of thanksgiving, if you get a chance read 1Sam2:1-10
Leviticus 19:2 NASB95
2 “Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.
God commanded Moses to tell the people, command the people to be holy for God is holy and as God’s people they were to be holy too.
Deuteronomy 32:4 NKJV
4 He is the Rock, His work is perfect; For all His ways are justice, A God of truth and without injustice; Righteous and upright is He.
As Hannah had mentioned God as the rock, so does Moses here. His ways are just, for He is faithful, righteous and upright.
Leviticus 19:2 NASB95
2 “Speak to all the congregation of the sons of Israel and say to them, ‘You shall be holy, for I the Lord your God am holy.
Psalm 9:7–8 NKJV
7 But the Lord shall endure forever; He has prepared His throne for judgment. 8 He shall judge the world in righteousness, And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.
He is just, He is righteous
For God is holy (1Sam2:2; Lev19:2)
God is just (Deu32:4; Psm9:7-8; Col3:25)
God tells us what is acceptable, so He is just in keeping His Word (Lev10:3; Num20:12)
Leviticus 10:3 NASB95
3 Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what the Lord spoke, saying, ‘By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be honored.’ ” So Aaron, therefore, kept silent.
Moses was told to be holy, to be considered holy but he did not always do things they way he should.
Numbers 20:12 NASB95
12 But the Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you have not believed Me, to treat Me as holy in the sight of the sons of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”
Num2
Moses had been told to speak to the rock to bring forth water, and Moses struck the rock as if God as angry (you can look back at passage to fill in the details). The results were that Moses was not going to be able to lead the people into the promised land.
Sin is serious, sin is also taking what God says lightly; man has a terrible predicament that brings death (Rom6:23). Oh we may not think our sins are many or they are not bad, but one sin brings judgment (Jam2:10)
One problem if not dealt with leads to be handed over (Rom1:28)
James 2:10 NASB95
10 For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
We cannot bridge the gap between Holy/Just/Righteous God and our sinful nature. But God provided the way to forgiveness of sins. JESUS.
Don't worry about being effective. Just concentrate on being faithful to the truth. — Dorothy Day

Way to forgiveness is Jesus

According to the riches of God’s grace, by God’s actions through Christ God is able to:
Preserve His holiness; for our sins have been washed away
Maintain His justice; for Jesus took on the punishment of sin Himself
Display being merciful and graceful because He loves us and sent Jesus as the way to forgiveness
Jesus is the way to forgiveness, you have to receive it.

Receiving the way of forgiveness: Jesus

Jesus told the Apostles He was the way (Jn14:6) and we know the apostles said there is no other way (Act4:12) so may we look at the way and receiving the way.
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Ater telling the apostles that they believe in the Father, believe also in Him for He is the way to the Father.
Acts 4:12 NASB95
12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.”
Jesus is the name in which one must be saved. Saved is forgiven of our sins the thing that separated us from God the Father.

Jesus gave the commission with instructions on how to receive forgiveness (Mk16:15-16)
Jesus promised to go away, but to send help (Jn16:7; Jn14:16) and reminded them of the coming help (Act1:5)
Jesus promised help came (Act2:3-4) and hearts were convicted (Act2:37)

Jesus gave the commission with instructions on how to receive forgiveness (Mk16:15-16)
Mark 16:15–16 NASB95
15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. 16 “He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.
Jesus promised to go away, but to send help (Jn16:7; Jn14:16) and reminded them of the coming help (Act1:5)

John 16:7 NASB95
7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you.
John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

John 14:6 NASB95
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.
Help to come, helper to be forever
Jesus gave the commission with instructions on howto receive forgiveness (Mk16:15-16)
Jesus promised to go away, but to send help (Jn16:7; Jn14:16) and reminded them of the coming help (Act1:5)
Jesus promised help came (Act2:3-4) and hearts were convicted (Act2:37)
Acts 2:3–4 NASB95
3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit was giving them utterance.
Acts 2:37 NASB95
37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brethren, what shall we do?”
Now it would not be fair or informative to just from coming to salvation, there was a lot that transpired prior to the hearts being convicted Let me summarize some of Acts chapter 2
Holy Spirit came (vv.2-3)
Holy Spirit was evident (vv.3-4)
Holy Spirit was for all (vv.5-12)
Holy Spirit denied by some (v.13); thought they were drunk
First sermon preached (vv.14ff)
included were pointing fact of fulfilled prophesy (vv.17-21)
Proof of the claim of who Jesus is (vv.22-24) and His victory over death
Then a little farther down the challenge was let all Israel know that: This Jesus you killed is both Lord and Christ (v.36); and that lead to the piercing of hearts and then obedience to the gospel
Peter called for them to obey the gospel (Act2:38)
Proof of the obedience (Act2:41)
Acts 2:41 NASB95
41 So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand souls.
The Lord added them to the church (Act2:47)
Paul had told the believers that they had to believe and confess (Rom10:9-10) fulfilling the command by Jesus (Mt10:32)
Romans 10:9–10 NASB95
9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.
The results; the people are clothed in Christ (Gal3:27)
Galatians 3:27 NASB95
27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
(lead to invitation) (invitation slide)
The way to forgiveness is Jesus, and if you have not been clothed in Jesus then there is no forgiveness and the sin problem is still that a problem. Don’t let the sin problem keep you or hold you from the solution. We cannot work our way into heaven, we cannot talk our way into heaven and we surely cannot fake our way into heaven. Le the author and the source of our salvation (Heb5:9) have His way with you and arise and call on his name and have your sins washed away (Act22:16)
