Book of Philippians: To Live is Christ (1:21)

Living for Christ

What are some challenges we face living for Christ?
Rejection
Hatred
Outcasted
Slandered
Mocked
Following Christ can be difficult (promised in John 15:33)
But He has overcome the world
The Promise God gives us:
Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

God Started the Work

God Started the Work

“He how began a good work in you”
The work is good or pleasing
same word used in Genesis when God speaks of creation
What work did He start?
The work of Salvation
That which is good in you is the atoning work of Jesus Christ
Salvation doesn’t stop at conversion

God is Still at Work

Philippians 2:13 ESV
for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.
God does not take a step back from what He started in you
He is active in it
He is working in it
He has a purpose for it ()
This can be seen in:
your desire for His Word
your prayer life
your love for others
your integrity
all of these are fruits of God doing work in your life

God Will Finish the Work

Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
God has an end goal for the work in your life
The glory of His name
Your joy
The greatest news, the completion of the work does not rest on YOU!
Isaiah 26:12
Isaiah 26:12 ESV
O Lord, you will ordain peace for us, for you have indeed done for us all our works.
What does this mean for me?
You are called to be faithful
Trust and obey God
Trusting and obedient to God
Love others as He has loved you
Loving others as He has loved you
Be a messenger of the Gospel
Live as Christ
Being a messenger of the Gospel
Philippians 1:6 ESV
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.
Where have you seen God’s work being done in your life?
In what ways is God making your life more like Jesus’ today?
Where are you struggling to to trust God to do His work in your life?
In what ways can you live for Christ, through the work of God, this week?
