Why are we doing youth? What’s the point of our youth group?
Anyone know our verse?
2 as thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
God has given Jesus the power to give eternal life.
Now Jesus defines it for us.
Eternal life is to know the only true God & Jesus.
We understand that the way we get to know God is through Jesus.
1 Timothy 2:5
5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
Essentially Jesus is our go-between.
He goes before God on our behalf so that we can be made right before God.
Thus we could say, Eternal life is to know God through the person and work of Jesus.
9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.
10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
1 John 5:
We believe man, yet the witness of God is greater.
God’s testimony is Jesus Christ.
If you do not believe the testimony of Jesus Christ then you are a liar.
I do not want to be viewed as a liar in God’s eyes.
God’s record or witness is giving us eternal life through His Son Jesus.
If you have the Son you have life and vice versa.
v. 20 says something really interesting
20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.
1 John 5:
It equates Jesus with eternal life.
Jesus is eternal life.
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.
1 John 5:7-12
If we are going to have a successful year we must make it the year of Knowing Him.
As a believer in Jesus we are given a supernatural ability to know the things of God
12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.
13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.
16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
We are able to get more of Jesus through His mind.
We get to know God by spending time with Him daily in our devotional life.
If you don’t understand everything you are reading be patient, eventually you will become familiar with God’s voice in His word and it will become sweeter than homey as the psalmest puts it.
Just like any relationship it takes commitment and patience.
If you are not committed to make a relationship with Jesus your top priority in life then you will find it very hard to navigate life above the influence of the world.
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
Psalm 19:7-
